  1. My understanding is that many of urban/housing economists have been reallocated at business schools, so we can't see many research group in that field within econ departments. (Correct me if I'm wrong) So I would apply to real estate phd programs at Wharton, Haas, Wisconsin and so on. They have really good economists, and funding from a business school is sweet. But you have to be pretty sure about your interests, because the downside of real estate phd programs is they're too narrowed (by definition). :2cents:
  2. Big congrats! great! I'm not surprised because princeton econ is one of those everybody-gets-full-funding programs. [clap]
  3. I just got rejected as well. Good luck to other waitlisted.
  4. I don't think UCSD is a school of econometricians either, but NWU's micro groups seem way too strong in terms of size, publications, rankings and job placements.
  5. haha.. sorry for confusing you. I got no funding man.. so I'm right now considering other options. sorry anyways.
  6. I'm not sure if I'm an talent that you are saying :), but I agree with that. As much as Michigan matches my interests, I'm pretty open to other funded options right now. My advisor seems to want me to go there though. Well, I then have to get open to other fields in econ.
  7. No news yet. If this is true, then additional admissons would come out after visiting days of Harvard, Stanford and MIT (among others). When is the Harvard's, by the way?
  8. Well, I actually called them up, but she just said the decision hasn't been made yet. She didn't say I was on the waitlist either. So I start thinking that she might have told me the decision has been made, but I misunderstood.:yuck: Thanks, anyways.
  9. Freethinker, you have sunny Berkeley though. :) By the way, can I ask how you found that out? Also, no one knows and rdjohnny111, how did you guys know that you got waitlisted? Did NYU respond to your emails?
  10. My admit was also with no funding, but I found one lucky guy on the gradcafe. Well, this guy must be their favorite.
  11. Another columbia fan here. Here is an interesting article on columbia econ. http://www.newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/urban/education/features/14642/ I'd like to see whoelse they are going to hire. :)
  12. Wow, your stats (i.e. gpa and gre) are impressive! As long as you can handle graduate measure, topology and functional analysis, you'll be in good shape in terms of math courses. Of course you'd better take real analysis as well, but it seems not a must for you. So -- it will depend on your schedule next year. I think your thesis and the LORs ragarding your research ability will matter. I'd also check the track record of graduates of your college getting in at top US econ phd programs to get some feeling, given that your degree is international. It could explain overall reputation of your college as well as your professors(' LORs). Good luck! ps: getting an external fellowship will be a huge plus. Edit: 1) typo and 2) Analysis could mean Real Analysis, I agree.
  13. I got the same email today. wow, I'm wondering how short the short list is, now that we can see around 20 TMians supposed to be on that list.. :)
  14. Well, despite the case of ptydepe's friend, associate's hypothesis still work well with american applicants. I might be one that will get the bad news tomorrow. :(
  15. I'm an international student applying for (and waiting for) another external fellowship, and haven't heard anything from MIT. So.. I guess my case would fall into the third category (still-waiting-and-NSF) because the result of the fellowship will come out soon. OR.. I'm just being ignored.
