  1. In terms of Academics, UMich is a top 5 EE (and all-over engineering) school You can’t beat that with any choice in California (except Stanford and Berkeley, of course), USC and UCLA are top 15 or top 10 at best And remember, Moving to Silicon Valley after finishing your studies is always an option, its true that its easier for California graduates (Stanford especially) but its quite simple for other top school graduates as well (MIT, UMich , CMU, GaTech, UIUC, etc..) to land a job there
  2. UMich is better in Communications, control and DSP Purdue is better in Power systems and neural nets
  3. In CS you're right, CMU is better than U-M but saying UMich isn't that great for EE, you're wrong In EE, UMich is a top 5 school and CMU is a top 10-15 school (i think it's currently 9th on USNews)
  4. Yes, you’re absolutely right It’s a MEng degree, but practically it could lead to a Phd, with a new grad application of course but it’s generally easy once you’re already in.
  5. I applied for MS only; I’m not sure about a PhD, at least not for the time being I know Princeton is good but in EE UMich is way better (Mich in top 5, Pton in top 10 or 12) Ann Arbor, as I’ve heard, is better to live in than Princeton, NJ ; although a little colder But Princeton still is an Ivy League and a has a better overall ranking than Michigan So what does matter, the overall University reputation or the individual department ranking?? Actually I didn’t apply for financial aid So, let’s sum up In terms or reputation, Michigan is very reputed in Engineering, actually top 5 after the threesome (MIT, Stanford and Berkeley) and sometimes UIUC or Caltech. Princeton is a top 10 or 12. But overall reputation Princeton is better As for the town, I understood from a bunch of friends that Ann Arbor is one of the best university towns in the nation with two drawbacks only, expensive and cold I’m planning to get my MS first then I’ll think about a PhD; and if I wanted one I’ll give MIT and Stanford another try It’s very difficult to choose. Mich: Better EE ranking Ann Arbor Princeton: Great Ivy League name Better overall ranking
  6. I have been offered admission (MS in EE) by Michigan, Georgia Tech and Princeton. They’re all great schools. What would you choose if you were in my place considering the university location, weather and academics?? I’m interested in CDMA cellular systems and Information theory. Thanks in advance.
