rejected freshly :-) -
just got rejected by UBC MSc-CS (saw it on the status page) something doesn't seem right...all these days they were playing the "a decision has not yet been made...we will contact u when we have a decision" had called them up yest politely asking em if they could expedite my app review coz i had to respond to other offers... and lo today a reject!:tup:[clap][clap]:D:grad:

by UW do you mean Wisconsin@Madison or Univ of Waterloo?
-
most junta have 5-6 I-20s by the end of their applicatin season. It would be a serious issue ONLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED FINANCIAL AID BY ONE OR MORE OF YOUR UNIVERSITIES WHICH HAVE ACCEPTED YOU. In which case most north american schools and those in Canada are part of the "Council of Graduate schools", so they share the funding information awarded to their students with all other schools. If you accept a funded offer from one univ, then you cannot accept any other offer from any other school until you submit in writing to the school you accepted first seeking their permission to withdraw your application to them, and are granted the same. So don't hurry if you are not sure, the deadline for accepting funded offers is April-15th.

University of Maryland College Park University of Southern California University of California - San Diego Northwestern University University of California - Santa Barbara these are really gr8 univs....@poster above i hope by "you should apply to better univs" u meant a replacement for some of the last 5-6 univs in his list like UCF, Wichita, IIT-C etc

Pls advice for Computer Science PhD admission chances
Juggernaut replied to giures's topic in Graduate Admissions
but for 1,2,3 the rest are easily 80:20 accept/reject chances for you...you should apply for more schools and apply for higher schools. all da best. -
osu..reffered for admission. whats the chance for aid?
Juggernaut replied to pavelbuet's topic in Computer Science Admissions
Congrats dude! Thats a gr8 admit....OSU PhD-CS should come with funding...they don't take in lot many ppl to not fund them. Funding decisions are usually made later...after the admits have first been decided....so all the best for the funding... [clap] -
oh thanks sami...in that case my answers wud obviously be incorrect.

isn't (b+c)* like a series of b's or a series oc c's? like "bbbbbbbb" or "ccccccccc" can we have anything like "bcbcbc" in this ?
-
no i think not...coz ORDER DOES NOT MATTER. so u should not consider each 'a' as distinct..they are all identical...only the permutations get counted. c * should supercede (b or c)* should that should supercede a* so u really cannot have those 2^N possibilities as their relative positions are restricted. I cud be wrong....would like to know if anyone else has another approach.
-
(I) is cubic i think strings are of the form aa....(b or c)* ab c* now ab has to be present in all strings....so given at string of length N, we have only N-2 places to be filled by the other three elements i.e either a* , (b or c)* , c* this could be done in (N-2-2) a's, b, c or (N-2-2) a's ,c,c --- 2 ways (N-2-3)a's,bb,c or (N-2-3) a's,b,cc or (N-2-3) a's,c,cc -- 3 ways (N-2-4) ... --------------- 4 ways and so on. This is of the order of (N-2)*{(N-2)*(N-2+1)/2} ---> Cubic. (II) is linear. it allows only string of the form abc* which is a linear growth.

I think answer choice wud be C, using registers a lot wud mean that memory access time will be shortened a lot, so pipelining wud be ineffective.
-
if i were to give an answer for the bubble sort thingy it wud be (n-1-i)/n
-
a) n/2 b) 1/(i+1) c) i/(i+1) d) 1/i as u can i could be any value between 0(inclusive) and n(not inclusive). n/2 sounds absurd, as it will always be > 1 for any array of size > 2 which wud mean the exchange is certain. 1/i+1 also fails in the case when i=0, that does not mean exchange is certain. so does i/i+1 ...which would mean at the beginning NO EXCHANGE can take place. 1/i wud again be absurd for 0,1 values of i. Somethng is missin in the question.

neone plannin to give AGRE in Bangladesh
Juggernaut replied to h.chaturvedi14's topic in GRE Computer Science
"well if it is for GRE...why not for AGRE" the reason is this....GRE is computer based, AGRE is paper based....your GRE score report shud take not more than 2 weeks to get generated from the day of your GRE....but for AGRE, you get the results of the Nov-6 exam only around Dec-15 (more than 40 days!) so if you take yours in December, you may get it in Mid jan...by when most deadlines (to be considered for fellowship/assistantship) wud have gone by. So check with the univ u r considering to apply to...reg this. -
neone plannin to give AGRE in Bangladesh
Juggernaut replied to h.chaturvedi14's topic in GRE Computer Science
is the AGRE available only in december in Bangladesh? I think you need not worry much then.....you will have to mail the grad-sec and alert them that your test was given only in december and hence it would take sometime for the score reports to arrive. Infact the univs in US would certainly be knowing this....about when is the AGRE available in a certain country. -
The online registration form has a column which asks for 4 univs for sending free score reports. My question 1)Do we have the option of choosing these 4 univs after giving the test?(I mean does the paper based system on test day have provision for this?) I wouldn't wanna report my score until i know how well i did the test. 2)Or is it like we either fill up this column here or use the ADDITIONAL SCORE REPORTING ALONE?

@Galbotrix Can you tell me more abt the Mc Graw HILL MCQ series?? I remember seeing it somewhere in a bookshop...does it also cover the concepts? or does it give only practice questions? @Fallf07. Thankx for your inputs, hmmm i donno where my course books are lying...i shud look for them....its been over 2 years now.

Juggernaut replied to h.chaturvedi14's topic in GRE Computer Science
by giving the test in December you are likely to miss the deadlines of most of the univs that require the AGRE-CS, as your scores might take atleast 40 days to arrive -
Hi Fall-f07 thanks for your inputs. Iam from CS background only...so guess the misprints shudn't be a problem....i am running short of time, so was looking for a quick n dirty reference guide that would help me brush up with the stuffs i learnt over 2 years back. So do you think it would be wise to go thru some sample papers of AGRE-CS once we are done with a quick scan of that book?
-
is this book any good? Will it serve as a quick reference and for problems practice? (I am aware of the brilliant tutorials GATE material and other online sources....just wanted to know abt the GK publications book as that is the only one readily accessible as of now to me)

Hi! Rate my chances at CMU...
Juggernaut replied to Ruchika_Rawat's topic in Computer Science Admissions
TAMU IS NOT A SAFE BET..... KEEP THAT IN MIND. Although it is not high up in the rankings, and its PhD-CS program is not rated amongst the top-schools, TAMU recieves tonnes of applications because tuition fee is less and cost of living is less too. So you can never take TAMU for granted.... it would be wiser to expect the unexpected...... for Fall-2006, the ones who got in were IITians or BITSians....although their profiles weren't "stellar", and was perhaps at par with other applicants. no harm in getting one reco from the boss.... it would give the "variety"...coz anyway u r goinna submit 2 recos from profs.
