  1. According to the information stated above, Univ of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Univ of California, Irvine are really risky, that is, not impossible, but yours is below the average scores of those schools.
  2. Usage Note: Some critics have tried to discern a semantic distinction between toward and towards, but the difference is entirely dialectal. Toward is more common in American English; towards is the predominant form in British English. taken from the American Heritage Dictionary
  3. There is a mistake in Answers. One 1000CR says it is C, other A.
  4. Premise: "donated objects require storage space, which is not free, and routine conservation, which is rather expensive" Answer: "Objects donated by a patron to a museum are often of such importance that the museum would be obliged to add them to its collection" But the question asks you to find an answer to lighten the demands on museum's financial resources. If you pick E, you invalidate the question. In E, you say that it is impossible to lighten the demands. You have to be encumbered with it. This is not a real gmat question.
  5. B doesn't strengthen the conclusion that the reason of resistant bacteria is due to the consumption of infected meat. Moreover, B causes a loophole for antibiotics. Therefore B is ambiguous. OA is A However, IMO, A is incorrect.
  6. If it is A, Antibiotics included in livestock feed should prevent bacterially infected meat. However, the choice of A says that antibiotics are used for the rate of growth of their animals. A doesn't explain the reason of resistant bacteria in people. A should have mentioned that the meat is a place for the resistant bacteria to grow in animals. Moreover, The argument didn't mention that antibiotics weaken the bacteria. It just says that antibiotics give rise to resistant bacteria. So, according to the information above, antibiotics only strengthen the bacteria. If you make assumption that antibiotics kills or weaken the bacteria, it means you add new information not mentioned in the argument. If the arguement included something similar the assumption, then in A, the reason of resistant bacteria would be still antibiotics, not infected meat. C may be close to the answer to strengthen the conclusion, however it is still incomplete. B also weakens the conlusion that the consumption of bacterially infected meat is not the reason of resistant bacteria. It is the use of antibiotics.
  7. The first question was already explained. Second?
  8. 2. Which of the following inferences about the consequences of instituting the new tests is best supported by the passage above? (A) The incidence of new cases of NANB hepatitis is likely to go up by 10 percent. (B) Donations made by patients specifically for their own use are likely to become less frequent. © The demand for blood from blood banks is likely to fluctuate more strongly. (D) The blood supplies available from blood banks are likely to go down. (E) The number of prospective first-time donors is likely to go up by 5 percent. Can anyone explain why the answer is D.
  9. This is another absurd question in 1000CR. First, there is no conlusion in the question. There are only 2 premises. Second, it can't weaken the unknown conlusion after "6" years in the choice of D, which is an OA. I think the question is incomplete.
  10. E is really absurd. People vote for E because of OA. E looks like an assumption. E doesn't strengthen the conlusion, but the premise.
  11. D, check the parallelism . "the expenditure of large sums of money"
  12. Read carefully, the combination that follows:idea: this pattern: this pattern is preposition + noun + participle
  13. Hi everyone, I have been using this forum for a long time however this is my first attempt to send a useful post for other current or prospective test takers. Last year, the long journey had started for me because I had needed the relevant and minimum Toefl score of 100 to be able to apply for the universities in which I prefer to participate. My first attempt was not even a real warm up. I just tried to form an opinion about new exam because I had missed to take the so-called easy CBT version in last minute however I was not ready for so-called hard IBT version of Toefl either. Anyway, my score was 60. Actually, the score didn't reflect the whole idea about my English because I had been using the language in the work and the school. Additionally, I have stayed in the USA and in some places of Europe where people mostly speak English . I have given this information because it might be proper to predict and plan the studies of prospective test takers. The score of 60 was a disaster, if you plan to apply for a program in the USA as you know. My second attempt was a disaster for me again 3 months later, because the beginning of the test was very stressful for me and influenced the rest of my test. In fact, it was not because Reading 28. I thought, the score of this section would not be higher than 20. It was just an experience. The expansion of the score of 88 orderly was R:28, L:22, S:18, W:20. Two section, the speaking and the Writing made me feel greatly distressed! So, I ordered another one for the next month. Third attempt was similar to a hope in past. I found out later, it wasn't. I got 104. R:28 L:28 S:22 W:26; I expected a higher score more than 90, but not 100. I'd like to share my experience even though I am not an expert because as you imagine, after getting the proper score it is very easy to speak out. Few detail for you, 1. Concentrate for the exam! Make a plan for your weaknesses especially. 2. Be sure the level of your English. And, be realistic! I have seen many people here who posted weird feedback. " I got 120! I've just studied 2 weeks!" This is not a feedback. not for high percentage of test takers. Reading Section: Read! read! read!:) Sometimes you may study vocabulary. Don't look up each word in a text. Just read to read. Read newspapers and magazines such as Time, Science, etc... Listening Section: Listen listen listen! Listen academic passages and a variety of subjects to improve your vocabulary. You can listen news hours on the TV or the radio. You can't benefit from the language in movies and series in short term. Speaking Section: If you live in a country where people speak other languages, not English, you need to make a friend to practice. I think, this forum and the Internet are very suitable tools for your aims. Writing Section. Just write! This section is the easiest one in the test. All you need is to practice. But you can not improve your abilities in 2 weeks, sure, it depends on your English. Languages live, die, change with time. Be uncomplaining and enduring. No pain no gain!.
