  1. This is a Manhattan question. I have a problem with the solution. Kindly help. 300 test results are integers ranging from 15 to 75, inclusive. Dominick's result is clearly in the 80th percentile of those results, not the 79th or the 81st. Quantity A: Number of other test results in the same percentile as Dominick's Quantity B: Maximum number of other test takers with the same result as Dominick's OK in summary, the solution says that regarding value of Quantity B, only two more people at most could have same score as Dominick as another person with the same score would have to be in the 81st percentile. From what I know, percentiles will be calculated using the last score from the 80th percentile group and the first value from the 81st percentile group. So, say all three scores in the 80th percentile were 58, and only the first (or even first two) scores in the 81st group were 58, the 80th percentile would be calculated by taking average of last value of 80th and first value of 81st and in this case it would bring 58 at the 80th percentile. This means that more than 2 students would have the same score as Dominick.. Can someone clarify the aforementioned problem?

  3. Thank you for such a detailed answer. However, what I don't understand is that when we say that x>=7 then the possible valueset for x is {7, 7.0000...001, ......}. But with choice A the possible value set for x is {6.0000...001, 6.0000...002, ......}. Only if we were to assume that x is an integer then option A would be correct. But this assumption is not stated in the question. Kindly clarify that?
  4. I've done Statistics One in undergrad but what other stats courses are you talking about. Is Econometric one of them? Further, are the online verified courses offered on coursera and edx acceptable to grad schools? Ans yes, I am the PI (Principal Investigator) in the research project and the co PI is a PhD in Statistics from Germany.
  5. Thank you XanthusARES and PhDPlease for taking the time to reply. Let me tell you something about my research interest. The project that I talked about earlier was about viral ads. Specifically I examined that how acts of violence, humor, and gender of protagonists in ads affect the virality of ads. I conducted experiments - produced 8 custom ads and collected data online. In future I intend to do research on similar lines. I guess this is somewhat CB (Please correct me if I'm wrong). @XanthusARES, what I get from your suggestion regarding math is that after cal singular variable, I need Liner Algebra. In the given time I guess I can do that. This year I'll apply to a couple of universities but I guess due to the "no-name university problem" i'll keep it below T30 or may be T50.
  6. Hi. I want to apply for PhD Marketing in the US but have doubts about where I fit regarding my background- CB vs Quant. My details are as under: Graduate Degree - MBA Undergrad - BBA No Math in Undergrad and Graduate - (I mekan Cal or Algebra)Have done a signature track course (Verified) on Cal Single Variable from Coursera (UPenn) GRE - 165 Q and 161 V Teaching Experience - 3-4 years Research Experience- Secured small funding a couple of months ago. Will write the report and paper in the coming two months. Also a case study is under process. Will be completed in a month. Industry Experience - Banking (I guess not relevant) My main concern is that 1. I don't have a grad degrkee from a big university - did my grad and under grad from Pakistan. Is that going to damage my prospects? 2. Also regarding the Math, what other Math subjects should I do to improve my profile. I need some guidance on choosing the math subjects. I don't think that my background is suitable for quant but I've heard that some math is required even for CB.. Is that true?

  8. I have a grave weakness in math. Consider the following questions. Of the positive integers that are multiples of 30 and are less than or equal to 360, what fraction are multiples of 12? I know that prime factorization is involved in solving such questions but I don't know the rules regarding prime factorization. I know how to find the prime factorization of numbers but have no idea how to solve such questions. Please help.

  10. Hi everyone. If a question says that "there are three consecutive odd integers a,b,and c" so are we to assume that these consecutive integers (odd or even) are positive. I am asking this because that is what exactly a question was in the GRE OG and in the explanation section they assumed that the odd consecutive integers are positive. I am not going to post the question because I don't know whether it's allowed to post questions from the OG. Please help.
