  1. Its similar to the latter case minus the killings. By the way, exploitations are quite common. What about Management Consulting vs I-Banking?
  2. Congrats on the Rotman admission. Its great that you had this experience but maybe you should emphasize that you represented the company (you were probably hired as employee and not worker) in their negotiation with the Union. It all boils down to the Master-Slave issue.
  3. I don't know whether i would agree with GMATbong's statement 'The more you help the strike, the better for your app.'. Strikes are considered illegal and put a damper on the BAU (Business As Usual) of the organization. Check your organization's Disciplinary Action Policy and this will be highlighted or check the local laws pertaining to union strikes. Think about it, your union is paralyzing the organization!
  4. Thanks alot. By the way, the emphasis is on 'religious' minority not racial or gender. Try non-Muslim in a Muslim country. Could this be 'a shoe in' for HSW? What about Consulting vs I-Banking as far as my profile is concerned?
  5. Could anyone provide a candid assessment of my chances of admission at a top business school in the US. Here is my bio: Male 28 yr old Third World Country (belong to the religious minority) BS Electrical Engr. from a top 10 Engr. school in the US (Completed 7 courses from the Masters program before graduation) MS Electrical Engr. (Although this doesn't mean anything for the MBA program) GPA: 3.46 GMAT: Will take at the end of this month. Experience (before Fall 2008): 2.5 yrs teaching at the undergrad level, 1.5 yrs human resource experience at the managerial level. Does the admission committee count teaching as experience? And what is preferred? The reason i ask this is becasue i have a good offer to join HR again. Leadership: -Vice Chair of an international Engineering society (country chapter). -Selected as member of a Math Research Center and the only non-phd among a very small group of members. -Appeared on a TV show to air my views on the educational system -Invited as reviewer for a few technical conferences. -Conducted a summer school for faculty members and researchers Other activities: -member of Toastermasters -freelance writer -do a lot of work for my community through motivational speeches and writing. -have been on numerous soft skills training I am of the opinion that Management Consutancy would be the job for me inview of my experience but its not like i can't hack I-Banking given my math skills. Thanks in advance.
  6. Let the sides of one rectangle be: ab, bd, dc and ca. Sides of the other rectangle: ef, fg, gh and he Perimter of the two rectangle = [(ab + bd + dc + ca) + (ef + fg + gh + he)] = 24 Let x be the intersection of the two rectangles then xd + dh + hx = 3Heavy line segment = [(ab + bd + dc + ca) + (ef + fg + gh + he)] - [xd + dh + hx] = 24 - 3 = 21
  7. In my opinion, this is a place where the person recommending you can flaunt his position in the department i.e assistant prof., associate prof. or prof. with prof. being the highest level. Adjunct prof. does not carry much weightage with the adcomm. The adccomm. is really looking for a little info. on the person who recommends you. If a professor who is also the director of a research center at your college says that you are a decent student then believe it or not this will carry more value than an assistant prof. who says you are a really great student. Wish you all the best.
  8. Good Luck eagle and vinay. Hope to see double 800's from both you guys!
  9. a strategem is provided/designed to deceive just like a concession is provided/designed to placate (reduce anger). In the case of E, a sentence is NOT provided/designed to prosecute. Prosecute means to initiate legal proceedings and by passing a sentence you have already condemned the person in question after having initiated a legal proceeding. In my opinion if it should have been sentence:condemn for it to be correct! Hope this helps!
  10. Listen kid none of us on this forum can tell you for sure where you can get admission cause remember that we are students just like you. Your list of extra curri. activities is impressive and so is your GPA so I guess they should make up for your SAT score. Don't worry about AP's, I guess they only come into play when you are looking to pick up credits in your freshman year. You can always take placement tests at the college once you are admitted. Good Luck!
  11. Thetrooper, your GRE score is good so sit back and relax! Freaking out after the test is normal, I had a 760 on Quant. and all I can say is for me its 'been there and done that' and have no intention to retake that (ever). But i'm confused here, if you are a mechanical engineer how are you graduating with a physics degree and working with lasers. Where do the two fields intersect? Good Luck with the applications!
  12. Flounder, From your post I gather that you are really interested in this stuff. SVD's can be solved using either your method or QR-algorithm. QR is computationally more simple than Jacobi but the latter has a higher degree of accuracy. Seems like you are into sensor arrays, parallel architecture, etc. Yes I have heard of VHDL but am not well versed with it. Its great to see you trying for a publication but to be honest with you its really tough to get a publication in a journal. Its easier to get your paper published in a conference than a journal. I know prof.'s whose work have been rejected for journal publications but some how got those papers accepted in conferences. Good Luck with everything!
  13. Attack:Vanquished ANS:D Hack:Carve ANS:E Metaphor:Literal ANS:B
  14. I say its D. Sage is someone who pocesses wisdom so the opposite of that would be a 'fool'.
  15. Hello flounder, Thanks for the wishes. Its been a while for me too. At the moment I am busy with my SOP, reco.'s and research so I have very little time for TM. However, every once in a while I do my best to post something which is my way of saying 'thank you' to this wonderful site. I will take a look at your reply. Also its good that you are scared of the quant. section cause this way you're not underestimating anything. But don't worry yourself too much with it. Also if your specialization is signal processing then you need to have a solid foundation in Fourier Transforms and Linear Algebra. Good Luck on the Test!
