    Internship in NC

Hi RP_NC. Try looking in other cities as you are very near the Pharm universities. Here in Fayetteville, Cape Fear Valley or Health Pavilion is opening it's own retail stores and Cape Fear Discount is also expanding. Walgreens is opening more stores around the area and Walmart has been increasing in daily volumes and needs some bodies in Pembroke and Lumberton. I hope this helps however I wish you good luck with Walgreens in your area so you don't have to go to plan B.

    Prayers needed

Hi Jen. My prayers for your mom's speedy recovery. Be strong and hopeful.
  3. Hi pharmoment. I really do appreciate your advice. It strengthened my decision to stay with WM. And I thank all of you who responded to my post. This forum really helps a lot. So here's my case and dilemma resolution. I have 2 children who are 15 and 12 already but my husband being in the force and deploys a lot, I have to be within a short radius. Also, it's important to me that I spend as much time as I could with them being their father always away. So I was conflicted between WM offering PT vs WG giving FT both within the area I want. I looked at the $ sign between PT vs FT though WM pays 2.55 higher vs WG that's why it turned into a dilemma. It's not really a big difference on the net. However, I realized WG does not close on any holidays, their hours are 8am to 10pm, 8h/shift, 5d/week no time for lunch vs WM which closes on 6 major holidays, store hours 9-9, 9h/shift, 4d/week with mandatory 30min lunch. Secondly, RpH overlap time is 2hrs for WG while 6hrs for WM. My DM is very nice too. She's giving me PT because she doesn't want me driving 1 hr away just so I get FT. Of course I can't have it all, besides, my DM is doing her best to work around what I want. I just have to be patient because there's a possibility by mid May for more hours for me. I just hope that this post also helps somebody in the same boat or having dilemma between these 2 chains. Again, I greatly appreciate you all. This forum had helped me since internship, exams and up to this point that I'm already looking for a better seat.
  4. Walmart is a little above 60/hr and Walgreens is about 60/hr. as RpH.
  5. I am from NC and according to our NCBOP website, we could check within 3-5 business days after exam date. Then every Thursday, board passers get licensed and we get the license itself and the written results by mail around Wednesday of the following week. That's NC state. Now for TX, I went briefly to your website and this is what it says: EXAMINATION RESULTS – Allow at Least 3 Weeks. Examination results are received from NABP once a week, generally at the beginning of each week. Notification of Examination results are given in a written letter which is mailed via U.S. Postal Service generally the last part of the week. Keep TSBP advised of your current mailing address at all times. Examination results (pass, fail or score) WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED OVER THE TELEPHONE, FAXED, OR DISPLAYED ON THE WEB UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Examination results are processed by computer and the standard processing time for NAPLEX and MPJE results is approximately 3 WEEKS. Every effort is made to process and mail results as soon as possible. DO NOT CALL, OR EMAIL TSBP STAFF, OR HAVE SOMEONE ELSE CALL OR EMAIL TSBP STAFF FOR EXAMINATION RESULTS. Contacting TSBP prior to the 3 week processing time delays the processing of results all applicants. Your cooperation will ensure that the Board staff can devote their time to the task of accurately processing the results for everyone. I hope this helps. Always refer to your website for procedures and requirements.
  6. From which state did you take it? Your state's website usually tells you when and how you'll know your results. If not, the website also indicates how to contact the board. You can start from there.
  7. I applied online for my internship and that was last year. I'm now a US RpH and a green card holder here in NC.
  8. Hello fellow pharmacists employed in either Walmart or Walgreens. I need your help or input for my decision-making. I just got licensed and did my internship with Walmart. I thought I was very sure of getting employed with Walmart but this friend of mine enticed me to put in my application for Walgreens. A day after updating my profile and submitting my application, I got a call for an interview in a matter of 2 days. 15 hours after that interview, I got the job offer. So, I emailed my Walmart DM told her about Walgreens offer. Both of these companies are offering me what I want. Walmart matched to Walgreens which made it easy for me to decide because I already know Walmart. Then Walgreens called so I told the DM that Walmart is offering and they will call me back to adjust for a counter offer. I know this counter adjusting will have a peak and I don't want to squeeze too much because that will come back to me on workload or narrow my leverage on other matters. Now, can anyone tell me about workload, hours, tech support etc in Walgreens? Has anyone done switching between these 2 chains and if so, please share some input. I greatly appreciate you all.

    Mpje-nc

Hello everyone! Not a lot of us post some tips for MPJE because it's state-based so this is for those fellows in NC. I took mine on 31 Jan and got licensed on the 6th Feb. Yeyyy!! I didn't know what to expect in the exam nor the books I need as I couldn't find any very recent thread about it. I bought books like Hall and Reiss for $70, Prontopass for $130 and Pharmacy Law by Debra Feinberg for $45. I also bought Pharmacy Law Digest and Fed Pharm Law Review by Kosegarten and Pisano a year ago. I also printed 150 pages of the NC state law and rules. Among these, I despise prontopass because it's so expensive that I only got I think 62 index cards for the federal law and 3 pages of 90 questions on the state law. Most of the questions are answerable by yes or no and some didn't have any explanation. Then at the top, it tells you that the information are not completely accurate and have to read the state law itself to verify. I never used it after reading once. Hall and Reiss is excellent and it's enough for the federal law. Pharmacy Law Digest is too exact that it's so boring and as I read one sentence with lots of clauses, I ended up not understanding at the end. Unfortunately, I have not found a book for the state law so I read the one from the NCBOP website: rules, law and everything I can open for reference. It is not that hard to understand so use it and try to summarize every paragraph then compare what's different with the federal. I got a lot of questions on controlled and mostly scenario-based. The Feinberg book is ok, it's like Hall and Reiss and it has 450 practice questions but some of the questions have inaccurate answers that made me go back and verify. I want to think it was intentionally done so it will stick. The Pisano book served just as a supplement and additional practice questions. All in all, only Prontopass that I regret spending on. I hope this helps somebody in the NC area. Good luck to all!!
  10. Hi Happyface. Before I took my NAPLEX and during the span of 9 months I was doing my internship, I've read a lot of posts that stated concentration to math. Over time, the posts said there were a great percentage of math problems in the exam. I viewed these as very complicated problems like "err on the side of caution". So, I studied APhA and skimmed through Stoklosa. When I took the exam, it's true I got a lot of math problems. How hard? They were all ratio and proportion and very basic formulas like NaCL equivalent, CrCl and Vd. I took a great deal of time going through the formulas in pharmacokinetics only to get a basic calculator at the exam. I will not say that I wasted my time because the benefit I got is I was able to fully understand the concepts of the formula which helped me decipher non-calculation questions. In my opinion, APhA alone is more than adequate for math problems. I wish you good luck!
  11. Hi Resu. Go to your state board website then to nabp website. Every state is different and only the board can give you official detailed procedure and requirements.
  12. Hi Rusty. I heard Florida requires 2000 something hours for internship hence I suggest you try other chains. I know somebody working in Walmart there who gets $16/hr. Don't put up with that $5/hr, that's not even the minimum wage. Keep looking and good luck.

    Can i...

Hi OMGWTHBBQ?. I suggest you check out the websites of or call the state boards you think you want to go to. In NC, with your FPGEC, they allow you to take NAPLEX before internship but not MPJE. I think I read from one of the forums that NY requires you to take NAPLEX before you can do internship. Some states have expirations on their license for internship. The board will not assign you to anywhere, you have to look for your own hoping they're accepting internship esp hospitals. Most of us have our own circumstances however flexibility and a lot of sacrifice are needed to get it done so have some room for plans B-Z because the choices are varied. Good luck.
  14. Hi Jen. Yeah, the math were very simple questions of ratio and proportion and I think some Vd and CrCl, at least for what I got. I used the Stoklosa for my FPGEE actually and solved some questions for the NAPLEX. In the end, I really didn't need it. I used the 8th edition of the yellow book which I bought for my FPGEE in 2007 but didn't use it then. It was very useful because it trained me how to figure out the right answers for the Ktype questions. Of course, it's based on what you know but it will make you very keen and practices your attention to detail. The APHA got everything I needed for the exam. So I'd say yes, the math on these 2 books are enough.
  15. I used that yellow book for my practice test too. It has a lot of K type questions which really helped a lot.
