  1. Tough luck my friend. I am shocked to see your result too. You deserve much better. Don't lose your heart. I am sure, by now, you must have digested the test basics pretty well. It shouldn't be that hard for you to re-take. Don't you give up. Best Wishes Krovvidy
  2. Yes, I am in San Francisco. I'd have loved to meet you. Palo Alto is not so far from where I live. But buddy, my MBA @ ISB starts from April 11th in Hyderabad (India). By any chance if you are coming here before April, we'll meet. Hmmm ... anyways, good luck for your course and let's stay in touch.
  3. Awesome TaTum!!! You've nailed it. Good luck ahead. Regards Krovvidy
  4. Thanks for the wishes effective_factor, [/url]TaTum & finsisher.
  5. Friends, I am very happy announce that I got through Indian School of Business, Hyderabad (FT world ranking 15). I owe a lot to the forum. Best Wishes Krovvidy
  6. @John ... apart from Manhattan SC and OG11, I've not used any other SC material. However, I saw TaTum posting some useful stuff here: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/107426-700-q49-v35-finally-im-done-gmat-2.html#post692395 However, I'd still suggest you to persist with MGMAT SC. Good Luck TaTum. I am very happy for you. Also, it's my pleasure to have helped in some way. Thanks everyone for wishing me well. I infact did just fine in my interview for the only school I've applied to. Fingers crossed while I await my result.
  7. Great Job bud. Good luck for your apps and beyond.
  8. You're right ... it should've been +P and hence P = -4. My bad!
  9. Given integer leaves a rem 4 when div by 8 Eg: 44, 52, 60, 68 are okay Also that it leaves a rem 2 when divided by 6 Eg: 44 & 68 are okay but not 52 & 60 When 44 is divided by 48, the remainder is 44 When 68 is divided by 48, the remainder is 20 And so on ... So, the question either is incomplete/incorrect or it's not a PS qn ... please double check ...
  10. First, you can clearly see that RS = 8-(-16) = 24 Second, RS = RT + TS i.e., 24 = RT + (5/2)TP ... [since TP = (2/5)TS] i.e., 24 = RT + (5/2)(RP-RT) ... [since RP = RT + TP] i.e., 24 = (1/3)RP + (5/2)(RP-(1/3)RP) ... [since RT = (1/3)RP] i.e., 24 = (1/3)RP + (5/3)RP i.e., 24 = 2RP i.e., RP = 12 i.e., 12 = -16 - P Therefore P = -28 HTH
  11. Hi I'd attribute the following reasons to my score betterment: 1. Better time management (I learnt & practiced a time slicing mechanism that suited me 2. Practicing representative material for Verbal (SETS 21-30 certainly helped) 3. Not getting flustered with any section or question (after the way my AWA ended, I really had to calm my nerves ... and I was also thinking that I messed up Quant too) 4. Last but not the least, clear understanding of the areas of improvement before restarting the prep Easier said than done! It entirely depends on your "application" on the d-day. Good Luck. Regards Krovvidy
  12. Check this thread: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/106808-need-some-info-graded-verbal-math-scores.html Don't get too worked up. Keep your cool. Stick to the basics and improve on your weak areas. You'll do well in Verbal too. Best K
  13. I got a 50Q and 40V ... I'd have probably made around 10 mistakes on Verbal and 6 to 8 on Quant. Don't read too much into these numbers. It might have been that some of my mistakes are only in the experimental qns and also not too many consecutive mistakes. These stats seem all right to me. Moreorless, I got the same results too.
  14. I am actually very impressed by the GMAT scoring algorithm! During my prep, I learnt how to compliment the algorithm on the real test. It's very easy. It's a kind of neural network. It learns to assess you right from the first qn. It gives you some life-lines too. Best part is, you don't have to get a 90% accuracy to get a 90 percentile score! From my experience, I am sure that I made about 6 to 8 mistakes in Quant but still managed a scaled score of 50. It depends on what kind of qns you get wrong and when. The grader also keeps track of how many qns you go wrong on a trot. Last but not the least, you have to answer all the questions. There is a certain penalty for not completing the test. Finally, there is no specific formula to correlate the actual no. of mistakes with the scaled score. The scoring algorithms of Kaplan & Manhattan are not really representative of the real one. Only GMATPrep has a closer one. Don't worry too much about that for now.
  15. I am not aware of any general books to improve concepts. Many folks have asked this qn on this forum. May be you can try searching some older posts. However, see if the following two posts are of any help to you. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/104885-krovvidys-journey-680-740-a-2.html#post676416 http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/106364-650-q50-v27-mission-failed-commando-v-murdered.html#post684539 Thanks for your wishes. Good Luck to you too.
  16. I beg to differ. It's not absolutely necessary to do all the prep material listed above. In my opinion, the only books / software needed are: 1. Official Guide 11th edition a.k.a OG11 (for Quant and Verbal) 2. Manhattan Sentence Correction book (forgot the edition - but get the latest one) 3. GMATPrep software (free download from mba.com) Apart from the above, there are some good practice tests availale - known as SETS (numbered from 1 to 30 or so). These should be available free for download. I don't know the source of these SETS, but sure they are useful (watch out for the incorrect answer-key though). Kaplan and Manhattan tests are slightly off-track. The scoring algorithms are not accurate too. But if you really need additional practice - not a bad idea. Powerscore GMAT CR Bible is a good book - but again, it's not a must read. And the 1000-series documents are mostly repetitions of OG10, OG11, SETS etc. TM is an amazing forum - I really owe something to many folks on this forum. Good luck with your prep. Best K
  17. Congratulations ve_boss. "Booth" is an awesome school. It's consistently listed in world's top-10 b-schools. I am sure you must be elated. I've just applied to one school - which is ISB, Hyderabad (India). I'll wait for its result till Feb 1st week and then I have a couple other options in Asia. I am not applying anywhere else. So, fingers crossed for now. Good Luck and enjoy. Krovvidy
  18. @TaTum & @sgmat - I really wish I had retained the correct OAs of those SETS. I used to print the SETS and mark the answers, and once I was done with the test - I didn't bother to file those sheets as well. Sorry folks. @sgmat - PM me your troubles with verbal section. I'll try my best to help you. Good Luck.
  19. Sometimes, you can solve these kind of questions - just by good observation. Here, the qn states that an applicant is admitted only if ALL 3 interviewers pass. It's possible that the 15 applicants A passed, might get a ding from B (out of a total of 40 applicants B might've passed a different set of 17 folks). That's all is needed. So, whoever A passed were not admitted. And A has not passed anyone else. As the qn is looking for a minimum number of applicants, it's possible that NONE of the 40 applicants were admitted. Therefore, the answer is A (0).
  20. Tough luck. Better luck next time around. Nothing wrong with your plan for 720 target. However, I am not very sure about the "Kaplan" part of it. I don't think it's entirely representative. Following posts might help you: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/94460-just-bombed-my-gmat.html#post613987 http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/93558-starting-my-prep-gmat-took-gmatprep.html#post609307 http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gmat/91639-disappointed-score.html#post597451 Best K
  21. Guys, don't waste time on this one, unless you're a Math Freak! IMO, it's not remotely close to being a GMAT Quant qn.
  22. 1. You can use the following links for English Grammar: English Grammar Reference and Exercises Dr. Grammar's Frequently Asked Questions Page I remember reading it somewhere on this forum that the typical Grammar Book used in schools, Wren & Martin - might be useful for GMAT SC. IMO, Manhattan SC rules with OG-11 is all you need (however, if you think you're really poor on Grammar, above material might come to your rescue) 2. For CR, ideally, you don't need any theoretical reading - if you understand all the various question types. The CR Bible book, however, gives a methodical approach to attack the commonly asked question models. Using this book might also help your speed on the real test. So, you strongly believe that "Good Offense is the Best Defense" ... huh? ... Bravo!
  23. Number of ways in which at least two letters between two "R"s is same as (Total number of ways) MINUS (Number of ways in which two "R"s are together PLUS Number of ways in which there is one letter between two "R"s) Total number of ways = 5!/2 = 60 ... (divided by 2 because there are 2 R's) Number of ways in which two "R"s are together = 4! = 24 ... (considering the 2 R's as one single letter) Number of ways in which there is one letter between two "R"s = 3*3! = 18 ... (Consider RXR as one group, where X can be one of the 3 letters O, D or E, and we have 2 more left (say Y & Z). So, RXR, Y & Z can be arranged in 3! ways. And there are 3 such combinations with X taking 3 different values. Hence 3*3!) So, final answer would be 60 - (24 + 18) = 18 (B) Hope this helps.
  24. Heyy ... I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. It's hilarious. You seem to have great attitude. It'd certainly pay rich dividends. Here's my 2 cents of advice: First, your Commando 'M' did an excellent job. Congrats. Second, your Commando 'V' could've done better, may be, by carrying better armor for defense and by training more on the usage of ammunition! Armor & Ammunition your commando 'V' needs: SC - Manhattan SC book for theory and OG11 for practice (digest every single official explanation) CR - OG11 is sufficient (GMAT CR Bible can be reviewed - if needed) RC - OG11 is sufficient Training with the Armor and usage of Ammunition: -OG11 ofcourse -SETS 21-30 (beware of incorrect OAs) -Use Testmagic as your training ground Finally, Good Luck 'officer' on your re-take mission. Best K
  25. It is specific to a b-school. Most take the highest. Some consider the latest one. And yet some take average. So, check the same in your target b-school websites.
