  1. I imagine Princeton would have an updated list at the flyout, but here is what I have for 2003-2009.
  2. I think you need to ask more specific questions to get help. Also, take a look at the threads at the top of the page as they contain lots of helpful information.
  3. Here are Berkeley's placements. Admittedly, they are hard to find. Our placements for this year aren't up yet. The one's I hear about (which are biased upward, people like talking about good placements) are: Columbia, Penn (Wharton), LSE, Michigan (not sure which department), Reed College, and Claremont McKenna. The last two, although not research institutions (AFAIK), were the top choices for both people. It was a tough market but I think we did pretty well.
  4. Ostensibly, we are supposed to be studying people and the social systems in which they operate. Also, the way economics is practiced has little to do with the scientific method (IMHO).
  5. I have no idea what it's like at UCLA, but at Cal there are probably four or five undergrads each year (I should just say for the last two years) who go to top ten places including Harvard and MIT.
  6. If I were you I would definitely take analysis and get an A. I think some places might find the B+ in linear algebra a little troubling. Other than that, apply to a ton of schools.
  7. So, I'm not sure where STP got his numbers, but I was chatting with our graduate coordinator a couple days ago and it sounded like we only made 5 or 6 more offers than we did last year... oops, just noticed he was talking about last year and two years ago.
  8. Walt, I think a lot of what you say is sensible, but I think we would disagree on expectations of what the administration will do in the future. The political backlash was, from my perspective here in Berkeley, pretty wimpy. One day of a respectably-sized protest combined with rather pathetic "occupations" where the protesters numbered less than 500 (at best). I think most people, even undergrads here, recognize that they pay VERY little (I paid more, even after the increases, for an undergrad which is not even comparable) and that amount is not sustainable. Perhaps your impressions of faculty and the furloughs are accurate, but mine have been very different (faculty joke about taking their "vacations" and reference them in class examples). Furloughs happened 20 years ago in the UC system with similar commentary, but hopefully, after moving to a more tuition-based model, they won't happen again. Anyway, I am optimistic that the political constraints on moving to the "Michigan model" aren't nearly as binding as you think.
  9. As the person who started the thread and went on to attend Berkeley, I can say that I have absolutely NO regrets. What I realized is that the university has no interest in seeing Berkeley's stature diminished. Instead it will move to a model of funding akin to Michigan, with higher tuition for undergrads and more non-resident undergrads. While this is unfortunate for Californians, it's good for us!
  10. Here is the first year video. Everyone seems to think Berkeley is falling apart, so we decided it would be funny to see what would happen if that were the case. I thought some of the prospective students who saw us filming might enjoy seeing the results. Hopefully, the second years will make their video available online soon. Unfortunately, there wasn't another metrics music video this year. :(
  11. Beware, P. Kehoe is notorious for not wanting to work with students. Also, I would substitute Gorodnichenko for Delong at Berkeley (and include Gourinchas). While Delong is wicked smart, Gorodnichenko is going to be huge and is more productive these days. Check out his webpage.
  12. So yeah, the honorable mentions are VERY close to the awards: 1) Excellent, Excellent 2) Excellent, Excellent 3) Excellent, Very Good
