  1. It can scare off schools that would think you are just chasing degrees. In anyway, your bioengineering phd comes from a good school, so overall I'm sure it would be an advantage. Just apply widely and try to identify the school that would be most sensitive to this factor. I do agree that your GMAT is pretty weak, so it's safer to give it another shot.
  2. While your profile might scare off some schools, I suspect some high status school will be interested in taking the risk, as your hard science phd might be an original asset. The uni you got it from does matter though: if it's a top uni, I believe you can cast a wide net and target schools with strong tech oriented phds, and stress the fact you have already accumulated research experience at the highest level. If not, your bioengineering phd will be a liability.
  3. yes, if you go on the first tab you can go back in time and access the previous years spreadsheet.
  4. I do see an increasing number of phd student going back to the industry. Yes the market is rough in OB/Strategy, so when you have location constraints you might as well explore opportunities outside academia. In most of the case though, you won't catch up with people that have accumulated work experience instead of going for a PhD (outside Germany, which is a special case).

  6. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship department at Imperial hosts Gerry George, chief editor of a small journal you might have heard of, the Academy of Management Journal. I have no idea why it's not AACSB accredited, but considering the quality of the faculty I'm sure it has very decent placement at least in top European/Asian schools.
  7. Darden (with Andy Wicks and Ed Freeman) and Wharton in ethics are the most famous US programs with such a specific emphasis.
  8. I graduated from a top management department in Europe. Had a solo R&R in a decent journal though and had a postdoc offer in the US as well as here in Europe. I only did the postdoc market... Anyway not sure I would make this choice again...
  9. I finished in 3 years and 10 months (including course work) but I knew I couldn't be strong enough for the job market so I embarked for a postdoc.
  10. I'm afraid that as management academics we'll have to face that **** for the rest of our life :( Being reduced to the 5 forces is probably the most depressive part of it!
  11. ****. I'm seeing this trade too late. As usual, had a great academy. The job market seems pretty open this year. A lot of positions (CSUs all opened a slot or two in OB/mgt)
  12. EMLyon has a well known tradition of Entepreneurship research and a number of big shots: Philippe Monin (AMJ, AJS, ASR, SMJ... evidence for doingfine that there are researchers outside the US who publish in top US journals), or among the young guns, Ignasi Marti (AMJ, JBV, etc MARTI Ignasi - EMLYON Business School). Although it got distanced by other schools, EMLyon's focus on research is pretty much in their DNA. It was on the first school in Europe to engage into research, way before ESSEC.
  13. Strategy/OT for assistant professor LBS/INSEAD - E120 HEC - E100 IESE/IE - E90-100 OxBridge/Imperial - E60-65 Other European - 60K Euro
  14. The Strategy department at IE has both a good faculty and a decent PhD placement. As many top European schools, it's hard to make the cut in the top US schools, but it would still open most of the doors in Europe and Asia.
  15. Yes, you should apply much wider, maybe 10 schools. It looks like you have a safe shot at ISB, which is good.
