  2. hey, I have not given any link. I am suggesting you to do some study on your own.. since your query is tooo vague and no one will bother to reply.. Similar queries has been replied a lot of times, so check old posts.. Whatever u have asked is replied by someone on list. Eric has made this site very easy with great search facility. Use it bye ketan
  3. browse this site and go thru this section. if still in doubt will inform me.. have to go now bye ketan
  4. Hi, Let me give you some points about reco letter. They are vital, so _never_ screw them. I think it would be ideal to apply to 5-8 or max 10 schools, not more than that.. if u do that means u don't know what u want to do. I had applied to 5 schools. All schools have their format of reco letter.. I have seen paper taking the reco on letter head, but that should be used as extension to university reco form. Consider that as detail explanation of your abilities. When u prepare for reco, do following 1) Put college address given in reco letter on envelop ( some place app goes to central dept, but SOP and Reco goes to concerned dept). 2) Put printout of each reco filled and signed by you in it. Details will be filled by prof.. this forms usually have matrix and profs find it easy to fill. 3) If he has agreed to write letter for u apart from above then get it signed and sealed on university letter head and put that also in envelop. 4) write brief abt urself, what course u did with him etc if he is not the one with whom u did your project. give all this to prof and give him 1-2 days.. he will make it ready and keep closed envelop for u.. make sure to get sealed side stamped with his seal and sign (this is mandatory for max schools).. u are done :) only thing u will not know what exactly he has written, sometimes they may tell u.. so mix your best and worst reco for univ.. hope this helps bye ketan
  5. Hi All, I want to know pros and cons of university of Illinois, Chicago and Mississippi State university for MS in Comp Sci and specialization in graphics/viz. I have to decide between two and go for visa soon, so all inputs are welcome. Till now, I have decided on MSU due to cost and presence of ERC (NSF funded research center). Not much idea abt UIC... waiting bye ketan
  6. Some of other good schools Caltech Cornell Ohio State U Penn State (if you are interested in vision) Columbia USC Wiscousin Maidision UT-Dallas (not sure abt the work goin here in CG oriented or not) Georgia Tech (great place) Purdue (good in CG) Rice Berkeley (upcomming group... v good) Princeton JHU NYU SUNY–Stony Brook University of California–Irvine University of California–Davis University of Utah WM UI Chicago Depaul University just a sample from what I was checking up HTH bye ketan
  7. You know Cornell has graphics program but under Architecture dept. I had talked with profs and then it did not make sense to me. Also they prefer PhD guys with good scores :( bye ketan
  8. Hi gandhalf, It seems like time factor for you. But from offer I think it is better to go for SB, since you have aid. As for MS - I myself have my doubts. Think in this way, what you will get by doing MS or PhD ? Sometimes MS really does not add up then PhD is also not easy.. so trickly thing. Decide from end result that u want. Are u pure industrial type or research type fellow.. As for dropping of PhD later.. some schools have no complusion for doing PhD. They expect to complete MS first and then start for PhD, so check how much flexible is their program and talk with students there.. hope it helps. bye ketan
  9. Hi Murali, Nice to see that you have got admit for CGV program. I have decided not to attend UCI, also prof has supported it. ( graphics prof). He told me many international students may not take office without aid. But he is open for collaborative research if I am joining MSU. So let's see. Where are u going? Sunxcat, I guess they have send the mail to all guys without aid. ( They have created grp mail id by which I got it) And if they don't accept then they might go for second list. I am not goining so u have one seat open :)) Bye ketan
  10. Hi skremon, Thanks for the inputs. It is nice to see some fellow TM interested in the same field. I know UCI was best bet, but I can't manage cost and California schools are costly with plan of 40% hike.. frankly system is not that good for international students. Graphics prof at UCI only recommended me to MSU. Currently MSU has one faculty, but if u see the ERC center then there is good amount of work being done. They are also going to hire 2 new profs, one is confirmed and I talked over mail with him. So they might have 3 profs mainly in Viz/AR/VR like. My interest is in large data set viz and rendering. I would be happy to know your profile, interest and where are you heading? I checked canadian schools, they looked good but I have no idea about it and it is too late :(( IN US all top university have good graphics faculty, but it is not at all easy. So may be can plan to switch later on. Till now not very sure for MS and if I do then it is MSU as of now. bye ketan
  11. Hi Skremon, Well I never thought about it. Not seen much papers from Canada and input in industry. It is new thought, may be will give some thought to it. Can you give me your background and inputs so that I can understand your line of tought. looking fwd to it.. bye ketan
  12. Hi Randhawa, I guess u got the admit already - other post.. don't loose hope.. will get throught. I was in US for work and came back. So will be back. :) Bye ketan
  13. Hi Monica, Putting it again. My credentials are : GRE ( 620(A), 750(Q) AWA -4.5 ), TOEFL (270) 3.66(GPA) / 83% average in 4 Yrs BE in Comp Science. Have worked in C/C++/X-Motif/OpenGL etc on SGI/Linux/Windows platform. Working in Industry for 4 yrs on medical area. Interest in graphics / viz and have applied to specific programs as Irvine as concentration in CGV and MSU has track in graphics. Worst part is good prof from MSU has left last yr and gone elsewhere and they are in process of hiring the new ones ( in VR ) and they have ERC center where there is good work.. so let's see... Some good programs in top schools had to be skipped.. less GRE.. infact less GRE made problem in Davis and Utah.. else other stuff was fine. I messed on exam day.. quant should have got 800.. so u learn a leasson :( hth bye ketan
  14. Hi, U may not spend that much amount, but u should be able to show to consulate to get visa!!! If u are there.. u are right.. u can do anything.. my point was from first pespective.. I am working 4 yrs.. medical devices area. apart form scores.. anything else ? MSU is not my first choice.. but both of my first choice are gone.. one by their decision and one by mine. bye ketan
  15. Hi Milli, I can understand the situation. Infact it seems that most of the MS admit this time are with any aid or waiver. I too have got it form Irvine and MSU.. have to reject Irvine due to cost. Somehow putting togather for MSU. Infact if nothing works form there as promised by prof from there then I might opt out early :( U can better talk with prof there and see if anyone has project(funded) in your area of interest. Talk with students there and ask what is scope after 1 sem. U can expect anything after only 1 (mix) or 2 sem .. so should be ready to spend that much. If u are not in hurry and think it is real tought to get 45K$+ then better try to talk with university if they can defer your admit and then try again for next yr for aid. I am not sure I can suggest u anything.. it is tough situation and personal. Best thing to do it calculate the ROI for your investment and see what u can get from this univ.. job wise and how long it will take for u to payoff. U can go for loan.. banks.. but think of all implications. 2 yrs of pay loss + 1 yr setup period (post study ) + 2 yr study should be able to pay within 3-5 yrs. HTH bye ketan
