  1. According to me the answer is C Statement 1 is not sufficient as shown above However, Statement 2 is also not sufficient According to statement 2 p^3 which means p if p=-1 then m=-(-1) + (-2)^(-1) = 1-1/2 = 1/2 Hence m^3 While if you put p = -2, then m>1 or m^3>1 Now when you combine the two statements you get value of m^3>1
  2. Answer should be D Let's assume that x=0, then Norman receives 20 dollars Therefore y has to be greater than 3 for the total earning to be greater than 40 Thus, y>3 Also y>x else it is not possible that total earnings this week is greater than total earnings last week. Leave alone being more than two times Now the first statement, Lets assume x=6 so total earning will be 20+6*6=56 Now for total earning to be greater than last weeks earning we need to have a total earnings greater than 112. Now if y= 11 then total earning is 20+6*6+12*5 = 116 Thus y Answer is D
  3. This is a really good question. I choose B at the first go. However, I went through the archives and found that the answer is actually C. The main thing about this question is to understand the difference between "Fact" and consideration. I went back and got below mentioned definition of consideration "information that should be kept in mind when making a decision" This definition is what tilts the answer in favor of C. Even though the first boldface is a fact it is used as a consideration in the statement. It is the information that should be kept in mind to understand the argument. Also explained well @ http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-critical-reasoning/23458-boldface-navigation-2.html
  4. We need to find an option that illustartes that the mayor's plan will not succeed. A clear D for me A) Even if not all the tiger sharks that come close to the beaches are killed, the existence of the program would reassure tourists. - strengthens the statement that proposal will be a success B) Business owners who depend on tourism are willing to pay most of the cost of implementing the program. -kind of strengthens the statement that proposal will be a success C) Tourists come to Tenare Island for its beaches, even though the island features a number of other tourist attractions - this statement tells that mayor's plan will have a +ve impact D) The small sharks on which tiger sharks prey feed on fish that are commercially important to the island's fisheries - Correct answer this explains why mayor's step might not help the economy of the island. Since this step would hurt fishing industry, second most imp industry E) Not all tourists who come to Tenare Island enjoy swimming or surfing - has no effect
  5. The thing that tilted the answer in favor of B was "response to which the argument assesses". The first bold portion presents a problem - the author then assesses the response to that problem. Ultimately the author seems to provide a result that the solution would achieve.
  6. Well ekvall there is a condition where III might not be true We know R=2S and S=T-3 If T=4, then S=1 and R=2 Clearly violates condition III
  7. Let’s suppose men do x units in one day and women do y unites in one day Total units of work by 4M and 3W in 6 days = total units of work by 5M & 7W in 4 days 4*6*x+3*6*y = 5*4*4+7*4*y W=0.4M 4M & 3W or 5.2M do the job in 6 days 1M does job in 5.2*6 days 1M & 1W or 1.4 M doe the job in 5.2*6/1.4 =22(2/7)
  8. I think answer for question 1 is D it is 6:30 2880717 min= 4811 hrs and 57 min 4811 hrs= 200 days and 11hrs Now if you subtract 11 hours 57 minutes from 6:27 PM answer comes to 6:30 minutes in the morning and not 6:24 or 6:27
