  1. Hi All, I gave my GRE on saturday. Sorry for a late post. So its over finally... I am not very happy with my verbal score but I am fine. I am not a native english speaker. Verbal had haunted me all through my prep. I did not even give 2 days to quant. On the D-day: Being a weekend - there were a huge number of people giving the exam. By huge I mean 25-30. I was psyched. But I tried to comfort myself - took long deep breaths. When the exam started, as usual I got 2 issue essays, both were from the issue pool provided by the ETS. I chose the one I felt comfortable with. Then the Argument essay came. Though I had not seen it, but after the exam I checked it. It was from the pool provided by ETS. Then I took the 10 minute break. After the break - I wished I do not get verbal first but I got Verbal. I was advised to spend more time on the first few questions. The two antonym words were from barrons. Analogy was also simple. Then two SCs were also fine. I spent that much time I felt was required. Then came the deadly RC. ummm.. ... ... In the end I could not answer 2 questions. Then quant started - I was really psyched since I could not answer the 2 verbal questions - I had a gut feeling I had screwed my GRE, I could not concentrate on Quant for 5-7 minutes. Then again I took a deep breath and started concentrating on Quant. I finished it with 5-7 minutes to spare. Then came the optional research part. I opted for it. New verbal questions came. I did them thoroughly. I dont know why. neways - I knew I had to look at the score. so I did. 590 at first releived me. but after that there were repurcussions - I dont know if its a good score or a bad. neways - I am fine now. I would like to thank a everybody on this forum for being a great help. Thanks a lot, Ruchi

  3. hey grad2009 - what does that mean...".it is a question with rate 5"... how can u find that..?
  4. x+y = 43 x^2 -y^2 = 43 so x-y =1 adding eq 1 and 3 -> x=22 hence y =21 not that long...
  5. hmmm.. I agree... i know I should vary sentence structure,,, it does not come naturally to me... probably would have to make a conscious effort.. I do not have NOVA AWA tips.. are they available online..??? please send me if u have.. (online copy) thanks... you have done really good analysis... ..very much appreciated!!!!!
  6. haanji.. boring... I know.. what to do... how can I vary sentence structure.. could u give me some ideas.. ? once again thanks a lot for reviewing my essays... :)
  7. your view is very ideal... but there would be political issues... why would the developed countries help underdeveloped countries without focussing on their problems... they would want the brightest people to focus on global warming and terrrorism... moreover developed countries are even ready to accept that global warming is just becoz of them.. hence they feel every body has contributed.... so all should focus on it.. point abt English ... hmm .. OK.. may be u r right.. Thanks a lot!
  8. Yes - if u have taken the GRE date.. the scores of your previous tests will not be sent until you take the GRE... if you do not take the GRE date till say 2-3 weeks.. the scores will be sent.. (normal procedure).. and if you take GRE date then (after 2-3 weeks).. and dont specify the universities.. I dont know if they will send the scores to the prevoiously specifed univs.
  9. No- if you see your scores.. they will be reported to the universities... but if before seeing your scores... you cancel them.. then only previous scores will be reported. yes its possible to re - take the exam as soon as 1st oct
  10. Hey FAFA.. thats for your comments.. my main point is that since nature of some of the world problems is global - the idea of a global university sounds good. but there are some issues - like which problems to be solved first because developing countries differ in their immediate and most harsh problems from the developed countries. and then who will decide what problems to be solved first. then communication will hinder Geographical issues (thanks for your point) / virtual university - I have not added it.. but this is also a point so overall not a good idea to have a global university...! Thanks.. keep writing..
  11. hmmmm .. this was difficult one... Thanks a lot!
  12. "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems." The idea of a global university may benefit the whole world by eliminating the world's problems. However, there are certain issues that may hinder its functioning and thus, its results from being fruitful. The problems faced by the modern society have taken a global face. The advanced technology may have given great comforts to its users, however it has produced some disasterous side effects as well. People are able to communicate at long distances with each other and travel far distances in matter of hours. However, the pollution level has tremendously increased in the past two decades. The world is experiencing rise in its temperatures and the ice on the poles has starting melting. This has led to rise in sea levels. On the other hand, terrorism is also taking advantage of the nuclear technology and using it for mass destruction. Therefore, if great intellectuals from all over the world work together to solve these world problems, the world would certainly become a better place to live in. Admittedly, global warming and terrorism are among the world's most persistent problems and there is certainly a need of some action agaisnt them. Nevertheless, for all the nations of the world, these are not the most important problems. Developing and under-developed countries suffer from poverty. Many people in these nations do not have the spending power of even $1 per day. The health problems in the developing and under-developed nations differ from those in developed nations. Hence, developed and under-developed countries would prefer poverty and health problems to be solved first by the global university. Hence, if a global university is designed to solve the world's problems, there might be an issue of which problems to be solved first. In such a case, which nation or functioning body would have the deciding power. These administrative issues suggest that the idea of a global university may not be feasible. Moreover, global university requires a medium of instruction - a common language for communication. Not all the nations of the world speak english. Hence, communication would be impeded. This may further lead to discrimination and segregation among the students of the global university, which is another problem faced by the citizens of the world. Hence, instead of solving the problems of the world, the intellectuals may aggravate them. In my conclusion, the idea of a global university to solve the world's problems and hence, to make it a better place to live, appears to be ideal. However, after analyzing it in detail, there seem to be some administravtive issues like which problems to be solved first. Moreover, discrimination, one of the world's persistent problems, may pose a hindrance in making the idea of global university fruitful.
