  1. Dear David I am engineering graduate from a top ranking engineering college in India. I have worked 3 years with a tier-1 financial services company as a project manager. My job involves end to end delivery(from requirement analysis to implementation) of software requirements for enhancing the software application used by our organization in three countries across the globe. I, now, intend to move on to another job for 2 years with an NGO that is involved with reducing educational inequity. The job here would include teaching primary school students in low income schools and improving the performance of the school by getting higer attendance rates, lower dropouts, better pass percentages, etc. I would try to enlist a couple of points for the specific experience that i am looking at over here - a. Community Leadership - Community projects (such as convincing parents in order to get them vested in the process of education, organizing trainings for school teachers to guide them on different forms of pedagogy, etc.) b. Academic Leadership - Managing a class of 30 students and taking them towards a common academic goal, taking the children from being taught through books to self-attainment of real knowledge by experimentation, reading, discussion & observation. c. Interacting with Business Leaders & Corporates + Being a part of the masses d. Interacting with other fellows/my peers In addition to this experience, I am looking at taking up CFA during this period. My goal is to take up management consultancy after pursuing my MBA from a top B-school. I have scored 700 on the GMAT. Looking forward to your advise and opinion on this career move from the perspective that i want to do my MBA after two years from now.
  2. Thank you all for your thoughtful response. I have decided to go by your suggestions - I am applying to 2 of the top 10 b-schools and 3 of the top 10-25 (rank) schools. During the past week, I had gone through the websites of HBS & Wharton and realized that I need to do a few "practical" tasks that would both help me position myself as good candidate for the MBA program and as well make me understand my self better. So though I am applying to these top schools this year and would definitely make a whole-hearted attempt, I am ok with not getting any admits this year. Will keep you all updated on my progress. @atabiss - yes i need to "get some life" - thanks for the heartfelt and candid response.
  3. Dear all, I took the GMAT yesterday and scored a 700(Q50,V34) & AWA 5.5. http://gmatclub.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif I had prepared for approx. 2 months and had done the following during my preps - 1. OG -11 - Did this book thrice(only the verbal section as I found quant too easy so I attempted the quant section only once) 2. Kaplan 800 - Did this book once. And noted the important points. 3. Manhattan SC - Did this book twice during preps and once before the exam for revision. 4. Spidey's notes - verbal. 5. GMAT prep GMAT Prep scores GMAT Prep-1- 660 GMAT Prep-2- 700 (Q51,V32) GMAT Prep-1(re-take)- 710 (Q51,V34) GMAT Prep-2(re-take)- 710 (Q50,V36) GMAT Prep-1(re-take after installing the software again - 3 days before the real exam) - 740 (Q51,V40) I started doing 1000 SCs and RCs, but could do about 30 questions each (lack of time, lot of work at office, etc - reasons that don't matter). About the experience on the D-day - I finished the quant section 10 mins before time.- I found the questions harder than any of the GMAT sources i had studied from. The last question was pretty easy so I thought I had missed the 51 bus. - I finished the Verbal section dot on time. I had exactly 1 min 30 secs left for my last question, which was an SC (and an easier one - thanks to my verbal scores). I was targetting the top 10 b-schools...but again thanks to my performance, i believe GMAT won't give me the edge. Please help/suggest me whether I should take the exam again ? Also, how do I find out what universities I can get at this score. About my profile - I have 2.5 yrs of work experience. Good Academics. No extra curriculars to boast abt. - have not really done much on this front...
