  4. Hi, I would like to know what is the procedure to change the h1 visa to f1 visa. If i am working on H1 visa in US and then If I want to take admission for Phd directly in US then how much time frame is required and what is the procedure for that. (Please do not consider GRE and Toefl time) appreciate your valuable feedback.
  5. Hi there, I have decided to apply for Phd in computer science for Fall 2014 . is anyone on same schedule?
  6. Hi there, I would like to pursue Ph.d in computer science in USA. I took a decision and hence If I am starting from today for the preparation, then what would be the cost of all initial processing. i.e. GRE, TOEFLE, VISA Fee, travel expense, US initial expense for 3-4 months and I also would like to know how much is the annual course fee for Phd in computer science in an average A grade university. What am I asking is, how much money now I should have in my pocket for all initial expenses if I start today. (FYI, I have 6 years of IT experience and currently working on innovation projects. only gap is I don't have any publications as of now. but its not a concern for me right now, I only need to know initial cost) regards
  7. Hi, I am planning to pursue Phd. in computer science (Artificial Intelligence) and planning to take the GRE by December end 2012. I know mostly evaluation is done on the basis of GRE score but I really wanted to know a fair value of my profile before i take GRE. Which universities will admit me? and also based on my profile, do you think I will get fellowship. My Scores(all are aggregate) Graduation (BscIT, 3 years)= 69.54% Post Graduation (MCA - Master of Computer Applications, 3 years) = 59.33% Work Experience = 5.1 years experience in IT Software Industry. Thanks. Appreciate your valuable comments and suggestions.
  8. Hi, just a quick question. Does every Ph.d student gets stipend in US university. If not to every student then out of 100, how much would you rate in percentage.like 70% students gets the stipends during their course in top universities. I am asking by considering the education loan. Here in India, most of the banks expects to repay loan within 3 years after mentioned education period. So my question is that, do stipend really help to cut out the loan amount for a Phd. student . appreciate your valuable feedback. regards, T_1000
  9. Hi buddy. well your dream matches my mine as well. could you please pass on me your contact no.
  10. sorry for replying late. Actually I am totally confused with fall, summer, winters seasons in USA. But I would like to get admitted somewhere near October 2011- Jan 2012.
  11. Hi, I am a software engineer and looking forward to persue Phd in Computer science. My question is when should I start on this. I have already done study on GRE but yet to take it. Besides study how much time will the entire process take? Thanks, Regards, T_1000
  12. I considered all the factors regarding pre-MS & post-MS. So till now most of the things are cleared. If i go for MS, then it would be a double Masters degree. In Addition to that factors like loan repayment, exerience for post-MS job, VO & H1B Visa issues . There is also the risk that they could count my MCA as a repetition hence the admission chances could go bad. Chances for the admission are there but they dosen't looks to be rational. OTOH, Gre exams, documentations etc, will definately take more time. Better would be, to work here and collect more experience, some certificates and then directly apply for abroad jobs with my qualifications and performance. However, still I would be giving my GRE & Toefle with good preparations, after 2-3 months & will keep ready all documents (LOR,SOP, Transcript). This is just to keep my position secure. Because in future, If i do not get satisfied with job or performarce then i could apply immediately. So i will keep everything ready if my future plans changes. I would like to thank all of the staff of the TM & edulix & Especially to Calmlogic for providing me valuable suggestions. These two forums are really eyeopeners for MS aspirants.
  13. About MCA, i don't know the exact rank. for first four sem i was average. My first to fourth sem score was around 55-60%. The fifth & sixth sem score was 62%, 72% respectively. In BScIT , the condition was same. for first four sem, score was around 55-60% and fifth ,sixth sem 62%, 72% respectively. In graduation My rank was 17th in college. And i was topper in CRM subject(customer relationship management) in University. About Top scores, actually it depends upon the semisters. First four sem the top score was like upto 70% and for rest of the two semister upto 75%. This pattern is similar with bachelors. first four semisters are very tough and fift and sixth are little easy. In addition, i was not well during my graduation and was under treatment for 18 months. So there were many ups & downs in my academic records. I were in the first 25% of the class but with avg score. didn't undestood? Let me explain you in detail. Here in Mumbai University, the main point is not about marks, its Class i.e. first class, second class or pass class. Mumbai University has very ugly rules. One rule is, If you get more than 3 AT.K.T., ie. if you failes more than 3 times in you entire MCA or BSc degree then you don't get any class. they writes only Pass on your degree marksheet. This is what, most students are really scare of. So most of the students have above 60% in their degree, but they dont get class. Its due to because they scores good in particular subject in second attemp. OTOH those who clears semisters without ATKT, have average marks. If you have noticed my profile, i have also completed certification n german language from Mumbai Univeristy. And then attended the Diploma in german language. but coudn't pass the diploma. It was like part-time course. Every sundays we had classes. i did german langugae just as hobby and to boost my profile. Some programming language are basically written in german language, so that was also the the reason. so do you think, i can get good college with such grades. GRE score is other part of the process but what will you say about my academic record.
  14. I am have attached my CV and MCA course syllbus. I have a very poor academics highschool record. but scored 69.54% in my bacholers and 58.77% in MCA. i did 2 small inhouse projects during bacholers and PG. take a look at them and tell me what are my chances for MS. Resume DEEPAK SAPKALE's CV.doc MCA Syllabus M C A.doc
  15. Also about the consultancies, many guys have written about their experiences. they do not admit students at good colleges. this is what scaring me too. i have been visiting FACT(consultancy) since couple of months, everytime just enquiring them about my doubts. they said they got 100% VISA acceptance & Admit record and i realize they apply to low graded college where the admission requirements are very low. are every consultancies same? anyone confirm that?
  16. I read all the links provided in last posts. The financial aid require to complete my MS would be around 10-15 lacs, (the part-time job will recover the living expenses). so i would be free from loans after 2-3 years of work in US. The Overall figures goes upto 5 years(2 yrs study + 2-3 yrs work ). So what i see from the financial points of view is , MS will benefit me only after 4-5 years, in terms of salary. By the time i would be earning 10-11 lacs($30k) per annum with 4-5 years of experience in India. Added that the situation will be different and Dollar value for money could be lesser. If my above calculations are true then, it clearly indicates me that, instead of going for MS, working here and later find a job in abroad after some years of experience is better. what you guys say? are my calculations right or wrong?
  17. whos gonna tell me that.. any one from your contact..... and how about loans...my financial condition is ok...but i still would be takin loan... how much will be the figure after 2 years with interest... 10+ or 15+ or 20+??....if i take loan something around 7-8lacs
  18. yeah..but there is also Cost of Living in india..... transportation, house rent, internet etc bills.. its not tough for me to a get job here... but its about the salary,pay..... if i continue to work for 2 years... then as i said my salary wont be beyond 4-5 lacs.. the only thing that i am losing here is the Time...and at the age of 26-27 i will be in the different world... as i said my only worries about MS are the syllabus.. ie. the course.. and the Time... i will have to again through the same syllabus that i had in my graduation n postgraduation.. and what about this consultancies.. i read on the edulix..they are not good.. and dont guide properly..specially interms of the selecting the college... they just admit you to the avg colleges... not avg also...
  19. about situation in india. its like, a BE graduate or MCA graduate gets pay starting from 2.0 lacs to 2.7 lacs per anum. here the MCA degree is cosidered as equivalent to BE. even if a guy works for 2 years, his pay doesn't increase more than 4.0 lacs.. but if he is lucky and get a chance at some popular MNCs like microsoft,google..then its like 6.0 lacs for starter.. but that salary is for one who got dosens of certificate and experience... now if we take look at MS degree.. and according to salary.. most of the ppl says that a fresher gets around $50k-$60k per annum.... so the scenario is like after 2 years a MS degree holder earns monthly that a experienced one who is doing job in India... the main important point i want to clear that, i dont have any problem with doing a temporary job in India until i gets admission for MS.. the main things thats keeps worrying and puts me in depression are... the Age factor & time... its because, the classmate who were at my age have aleady completed his MS last year in 2007 ,n i am starting it next year... this is what worries me.. i am already 24 (may 22).. and the time when i will be completing my MS, i would be 26. i am just havin problem that, is MS feasible for me at the age of 26......shall i go for MS ? BTW.. i have posted this problem on edulix..but it seems to be no one interested in answering..
  20. as far now.. i have remove the option of Phd.. so the still the thing that makin me sick is... to go for MS or not..... @calmlogic,, if you were at my position.. what you would've done?? ms or job...and is ms really worth instead of job in india?
  21. i didn't got what you want to say... can u explaint why u not agree? and actually i am quite not familier with the credits system... can you plz explain it in detail... how they are calculated...?
  22. thats why i am not much interested about phd.. it will take mininum 3-4 years to complete.. hence at the age of 28-29 .. i wil be like guy with good knowlesdge and NULL experience... and i have read some information on following website about phd.. and hence don't find Phd usefull for now.. http://www.petersons.com/gradchannel/file.asp?id=931&path=gr.gs.advice#Master's or Ph.D. i have also spoken to my one of the graduation's teacher.. now he is MBA director in sydenham college,Mumbai .he told me that if you want to persue Phd then you must take alteast 3-4 years of experience.. and then go for Phd... and about MS.. he was ok with it...however he also suggested me to join any IT job asap... also one thing i forgot to mention that... i have been enquiring about GRE with FACT consultancy which is very popular in Mumbai...they have many branches across mumbai and have been sending students from many years... they told me that as i am already MCA.. ie. BSc 3 years + MCA 3 years= 6 years... then i could get more credits and hence my MS will be of 1 year only.... they said so... but couldn't understand this.. . is it true?
  23. if i choose MS.. then its gonna change my entire life... completely different mode in life...a total turn.... what you guys thing... what shall i do? MS or phd...or Job here n settle n wait for chances for abroad....
