  1. 1. If an integer n>2 takes the form k! And this satisfies if and only if the product of the 'n' numbers in that factorial should be less than or equal to k. Col A: n!/(n-1)! Col B: n!-(n-1)!/(n-2)! What integer satisfies this requirement? 2. Given a table X - -- - f 0 - -- - n 1 - - -- 100-n Col A: Value of n for mean to be greater than 0.5 Col B: 50 Don't even know how to approach this one. 3. If S1 = 2 and if Sn =S(n-1)*1/2 then Col A: S6 Col B: 2^14(S20) I am not a math person and do not know much about arithmetic progressions. What am I supposed to do? Where am I supposed to plug in S1 = 2? 5. If 14% people have ovens and 27% have washing machines, then what is the range of the people having neither oven nor washing machines? A. 0-14% B. 27-41% C. 59-73% D. 73-86% (Options were something like that) This problem was in an earlier thread but I can't find it. I think e cartman had solved it as 1 - .27 - .14 = .59. I also got C as the answer but shouldnt it look like this (1-.27) * (1-.14) = .63. The word "nor" is used which implies: what is the probability that neither ovens AND neither washing machines. So, the real question here is does the question entail the OR formula for probability - (pA + pB - (pA * pB)) or the AND formula - (pA * pB)
  2. My answer is 960. ratio of 4:5 and a perimeter of 54 4x + 5x = 54 x = 6 4(6) = 24 feet 5(6) = 30 feet So the sides for the rectangle are 12 , 12 , 15, 15. 12 x 15, in other words. Each tile is 9 inches x 9 inches. 9 inches goes into 12 feet 16 times, and into 15 feet 20 times. Hence the tiles are 16 x 20. 16 x 20 = 320 tiles There are 3 L-shapes tiles in each tile, so 320 x 3 = 960.
  3. I'm a little puzzled. Why cant 2sqrt(xy) be negative? It only says that x and y are not equal to zero. If x = -1 and y = 4 then 2sqrt(-1 x 4) is negative, right? Is it impossible for a square root to be negative? I am taking the test soon so your help is really appreciated, moodaeng. Thanks
  4. 2. If x & y are not equal to zero, then Col A: sqrt(x) + sqrt(y) Col B: sqrt(x+y) SPOILER: Ans: A The answer should be D, right? Square both sides: A. (sqrt(x) + sqrt(y))^2 = x + 2sqrt(xy) + y B. (sqrt(x+y))^2 = x +y A. x + 2sqrt(xy) + y B. x +y Subtract x and y from both sides: A. 2sqrt(xy) B. 0 Since we don't know if x and y are negative or positive, the answer is D. Correct me if something is amiss.
  5. hmmm. Even with overlapping, lets say Z completely overlaps Y so 375-225. You are left with 150, which is still more that 112. I hope someone else can provide us with insight on this.
  6. Y = 375 doctors who say yes Z = 750 (3/10) = 225 who "dont say yes" 225 + 375 > 112 A>B Is there something I am missing? It seems like a straightforward question, otherwise.
  7. A:100,021*90,120 B:100,120*90,021 Divide both sides by 90021 and 100021. You are left with: A: 90120/90021 B: 100120/100021 A = 1 and a remainder of 99/90021 B = 1 and a remainder of 99/100021 Comparing the two remainders, column A has the bigger remainder. I think this is a relatively fast way to do it. Not too much calculation, mostly comparing. I only know how to do the first one conventionally - not particularly quickly.
  8. Good point about the between. It should be 18. I wonder why .022 isnt an answer? I suppose .02 is close enough.
  9. Nice job on getting 700 for quants! Did you notice any similar problems on the Real Gre as there are on Dr. Raju's website? What was your issue topic? If you can remember anything else, it would be really helpful. Thanks and good luck on the verbal!
  10. This is a bit difficult. Do you have an efficient way of doing it? Please explain.
  11. Is there something wrong with this question? I thought when the base was the same you could just add/subtract freely. 2n+1 - 2n = 1000? Don't the N's cancel each other out? How did you do that jess?
  12. Hey guys, please explain your answers. 1. An Electricity poll has been extended from 3000 to 3799. If a marked place is between 3020 to 3039 then what is the probability that selected point is marked place? A.0.025 B.0.01 C.0.05 D.0.02 & so on… Marked space/Total Space = 3039 - 3020 = that is 20 marked spaces 3799 - 3000 = that is 800 spaces 20/800 = .025 Footballfreak, can you explain how you got 40 marked spaces for your answer of .05
  13. 5. If a^-3 +a^2 + 9 = 0 then Col A: The value of 'a' Col B: -1/3 I doubt it is meant to be solved. Just plug in -1/3 into equation: (-1/3)^-3 + (-1/3)^2 +9 = 0 -27 + 1/9 + 9 = -17 8/9 does not equal 0 - So -1/3 is not the answer Try (-1/2) -8 + 1/4 + 9 = 1 1/4 - which is closer to 0. -1/3 > -1/2 - So we can assume the value of a is less than -1/3, so column B is more that Column A. Answer - B
  14. Well, there are 10 digits to choose from. A telephone number can start with 0. So maybe, 10 x 10 x 9 x 8 x 7?
  15. Just to confirm, when you say 4C2 you mean: 4!/2!(4-2)! or 4!/2! ? So, is the answer B, with A = 4 and B = 36?
