  1. hey Tatum, Is it possible to give me some guidance on schools etc. I got a 720 (q49 v38). I have not applied as yet because I got busy with my responsibilities at work. Just wished to get a fair idea of what to be prepared for. Thanks again. -Regards, Girish
  2. Sorry , a stupid question here. If we look at C. Answering C in a Yes/No - Does it not affect tthe argument - Yes - means ok its true then that he is likely a candidate. No - its suspect that he is likely a candidate. Am confused here. Will please appreciate help. Many Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik.
  3. Thanks Mitzi. Just two more things. 1. Do we need a second 'as' here ? 2. Here I believe enabling is modifying the preceding sentence. What do you think? Thanks again , -Regards, Girish Malik.
  4. Can some one tell me whats wrong with D here . I would go with D since it shows that drinking is not the problem and employers cannot reduce the accidents by firing those with drinking history...accidents wont reduce as stress is the real culprit... Can some one tell me whats wrong with D here ? Will appreciate response. I thought this is a classic case of reverse cause and effect. -Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  5. Thanks so much Raja. GOB Bless you for all this guidance you are giving me. As for CR, I am gettign roughly 4-5 wrong in a set of 1-41. So I do not know am good or bad. I in fact went through the Powerscore Bible also and I understand the concepts and the points they mention. Maybe the time crunch keeps me from starting to apply those when i attempt in timed conditions. Will try with your approach for sure. So what do you suggest I have 16 days now and you believe I should focus on just OG for the study material. The thing is Raja and correct me if I am wrong, you know you tend to remember the answers, I guess I did OG once and then again. Also I heard from people the real paper is way tougher than the OG in terms of questions , what do you feel. Also exams wise, I was thinking of GOD Willing trying GMATPrep2 on 14th Feb, that will be about a week before the paper. What do you recommend. You think then i should uninstall and try to give GMATPrep again to try to come across new questions etc. Would love your advice. Thanks again so much. -Regards, Girish Malik
  6. Hi, Could anyone let me know why A is incorrect here. Greater land rights and greater involvement in trade made women in precolonial Ghana less dependent on men than were European women at that time." Quoting from the paragraph 2 in the passage : In contrast with Ghana, where women had traded for hundreds of years and achieved legal majority (not unrelated phenomena), the evidence regarding central Kenya indicated that women were legal minors and were sometimes treated as male property, as were European women at that time. Factors like strong patrilinearity and patrilocality, as well as women’s inferior land rights and lesser involvement in trade, made women more dependent on men than was generally the case in Ghana." A is right there in the passage and there is no mention of any fact that Robertson knew this before her research as mentioned in line 18. Kindly help on this one. Many Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  7. B says 'contrasting the reasoning of various groups concerning their positions on certain proposed legislation' The reasoning why these groups took certain positions is never deliberrated upon. Now E : The passage mentions things like WIDC- it opposed the proposal, viewing it as yet another instance of limiting women’s work opportunities.' 'SPEW contended, and WIDC concurred,...' 'SPEW provided convincing evidence...' These are nothing but argumenns put forth by these groups concerning certain proposed legislation. So I believe E should be the answer here . Thoughts? Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  8. Hi, Sorry for a stupid question. I chose A. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with A here? Will appreciate the response. Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  9. Can anyone let me know whats the concensus on this. C looks perfect. Someone said its incomplete. I do not think so : Scientists have recently discovered that the ultrathin, layered construction of a butterfly’s wings is the same as the one that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence, enabling the insect to control how much heat energy is absorbed by its wings and how much is reflected away. Whats wrong with this? Kindly help me here. Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  10. I chose C because I thot its somewhat conveying the meaning. All is right with E I agree, but can anyone please explain to me the meaning of the sentence with E fitted in. And if possible where did C lose out. Am really perplexed on this. Thanks, -Regards, Girish
  11. Hi Raja , Thanks so much for your response. Ok, I tried Manhattan CATs. 1-4 Scores : 640(44,34) 670(44,37) 720(47,41) 770(50,45) Gave Princeton Test 1 : Got 720(51,39). Honestly, if you ask me, I guess my weak area is CR and RC. I mean I read the Powerscore bible twice and thought I was ok, but off late I realised I was goofing up on CRs, not consistently but yes these two are my weak areas I guess. Probabilility is also a concern, but then again not consistently a concern area. Am really scared right now. I mean if Verbal is really tough on the main exam, then GOD Bless me. Help me Raja, any advice about what to study / also what exams to take . I have 2 Manhattan CATs and GMATPrep2 not tried at all so far. I took GMATPrep 1(710) and then had taken it again (760 - not sure why but only Kindly advise. Many Thanks. Girish.
  12. Not sure what happened, but thats what it was, I was not able to note the scaled score though. Kindly let me know how to prepare in the last 15 days. i will be grateful. I am doing sets 21-30 right now. Let me know what you think. My weakest areas as per me are CR and RC. Any inputs on the study pattern / exams to take would be great. Thanks. Many Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  13. Hi, I believe the answer for Q13 should be B. Quoting from the passage : ' ...whereas males that are genetically resistant (30) will use fewer carotenoids for fighting disease and will advertise this by using the pigments for flashy display instead.' So ideally the carotenoids can be used for both - health reasons as well as coloration - , depending on the capacity(health) , the male can decide what to use it for. So I believe C cannot be the answer. Thoughts? Will appreciate response. Many Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik.
  14. Many politicians, business leaders, and scholars discount the role of public policy and emphasize the role of the labor market when explaining employers’ maternity-leave policies, arguing that prior to the passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, employers were already providing maternity leave in (10) response to the increase in the number of women workers. Employers did create maternity-leave programs in the 1970’s and 1980’s, but not as a purely voluntary response in the (15) absence of any government mandate. In 1972, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) ruled that employers who allowed leaves for disabling medical conditions must (20) also allow them for maternity and that failure to do so would constitute sex discrimination under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As early as 1973, a survey found that 58 percent of large (25) employers had responded with new maternity-leave policies. Because the 1972 EEOC ruling was contested in court, the ruling won press attention that popularized maternity-leave (30) policies. Yet perhaps because the Supreme Court later struck down the ruling, politicians and scholars have failed to recognize its effects, assuming that employers adopted (35) maternity-leave policies in response to the growing feminization of the workforce. Q27: The passage suggests that the relationship between the view of the author with respect tomaternity leave policy prior to passage of the FMLA and the view of the politicians, business leaders, and scholars mentioned in lines 1-2 can best be characterized by which of the following statements? A. They agree that both the 1972 EEOC ruling on maternity-leave policy and the increasing feminization of the workplace had an impact on employers’ creation of maternity-leave programs but disagree about the relative importance of each factor. B. They agree that the EEOC ruling on maternity-leave policy had an initial impact on employers’ creation of maternity-leave programs but disagree over whether the Supreme Court’s striking down of the EEOC ruling weakened that impact. C. They agree that creating maternity-leave programs was a necessary response to the needs of the increasing number of women workers but disagree about whether maternity should be classified as a disabling medical condition. D. They agree that employers created maternity-leave programs prior to passage of the FMLA but disagree about employers’ motivations for doing so. E. They agree that employers created maternity-leave programs prior to passage of the FMLA but disagree about how widespread those programs were. Kindly let me know the answer for the question 27. I think it should be D. Will appreciate response. Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  15. Hi, I absolutely was torn between A and D. Chose D thinking that if you penalize means they were less competent and it breaks the conclusion. Can you please correct where I am wrong in my approach on D. Thanks a lot. -Regards, Girish Malik
  16. Any recommendations you could give for the last 15 days of preparations. I took GMATPrep long back(missed about 6 ques) - got 710 and then took it again after 2-3 weeks - got 760. I have not tried GMATPrep2 so far. Someone mentioned I keep it till the last week. I have tried Manhattan CAT1-4 though so two more are left there. Kindly advise based on your experience. Will be grateful. Thanks a lot. -Regards, Girish Malik
  17. Thanks Raja for the response. I got these books in soft copy but I reckon the questiosn are repeated from the OG. What do you think. Also , I finally have taken GOD's name and booked a slot for 23rd Feb. I am right now doing SETS 21-30. Any recommendations you have. I have completed Manhattan CAT1,2,3,4 and GMATPrep 1 I appeared once and then one time again. Also gave 1 test from Powerprep and Princeton Test1. Any recommendations you could suggest for the left over time between now and 02/23. Will be eternally grateful , if you could help in this regard. Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  18. I believe the answer should be C. As per the passage - Scharf's work - "depicts a generation of Privileged women, born in the late Nineteenth century and maturing (50) in the twentieth, who made the transition from old patterns of female association to new ones. " So this talks of a generation which drives a person and the person draws her goals from the generation. This is just what C says. D instead talks of familial ties working which is not what Scharf highlighted. Thoughts? Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  19. I believe the answer should be C . From the passage Scharf's novel - ' depicts a generation of Privileged women, born in the late Nineteenth century and maturing (50) in the twentieth, who made the transition from old patterns of female association to new ones. ' So effectivelye here we talk of some one in a context of socia context (of the generation ), rather his own. D. talks about familial influence C. talks instead about a culture and the goals that a person derives from it. So I believe C should be the answer. Thoughts ? -Regards, Girish Malik.
  20. Could anyone please help me understand whats wrong with D. I did not choose A because of the construction of ' ever more precise..', i know about ' more precise than ever' , but is this a valid usage. Will be grateful for explanation. -Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  21. Hi , Pls help on this one. I chose A largely because the they is ambiguous in all and in E , it ends in 'they are ' is 'they are the current one' a form of ellipsis. I have not seen anything liek this before. Q28 Traffic safety officials predict that drivers will be equally likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as the current one. A. equally likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as B. equally likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as they are C. equally likely that they will exceed the proposed speed limit as D. as likely that they will exceed the proposed speed limit as E. as likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as they are. Pls help. Am really confused here. Thanks. -Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  22. I believe the answer for 32 should be C. ' To reduce refraction errors, the Chinese team carried in sea level to (35) within five to twelve miles of Everest’s summit, decreasing the amount of air that light passed through on its way to their theodolites." so this proves that "When theodolites are used relatively far from the mountain peak.', then chances of errors are there. Thoughts? Thanks and Regards, Girish Malik
  23. I believe announced needs that in all circumstances. Kindly correct me if I am wrong. A is the only possible option I guess . and 'they refers to the nearest 'stores'. Thoughts?
  24. Beg to differ . I agree with hrif. I believe A is more of a trap to let us think that they might spread the allergy when they switch over. Ideally think about it 100 employees in zoo 30 have allergies - a billion outside, even if they switch , in no way can the population's allergic section have a %age >30%. We will need a stronger reason than this to increase it to 'substantially more' . Now think about E. The zoo guys seldom wear protective gear makign them vulnerable. We know for sure that general population cannot be expected to wear protective gear in the normal course of life so their vulnerability is exposed and the substantially more %age is possible here. Would appreciate thoughts. Thanks. -Regards, Girish Malik
  25. I myself answered D but kindly let me know because we have a ',' before compared with are we not comparing children with figures here. Am confused here. Kindly help. Many Thanks.
