  2. Hey guys! I've got a quick question - Is there any example of decent researcher coming from low-ranking PhD program? I've receive a funded offer from low-ranking econ PhD program(SUNY-Albany). My main interest is in public choice, political economy, and economic history. My short term goal is to have my first job in academia, and ultimate(?) goal is to do decent researches and contribute to economics and, hopefully, to the society with my ideas. I'm happy that I have one funded offer but a bit worried about the placement record of the program.(Recent Ph.D. Placements - Department of Economics) I've got to decide before the 15th. Any advice?
  3. Hey Canuckonomist, Good luck on your April 15th. We just need one more reply!
  4. Thanks for all the comments. It's a tough one...
  5. Hey guys, Always thanks for all the information I get here. Time to make a decision. I have to decide between Toulouse(M2) and UBC(MA). Money doesn't matter(Not that I am that rich, just that I will have to apply for outside funding for both cases). My (tentative) research interest being political economy, labour economics, and other applied-micros. I plan to enter PhD after MA, and I think the most likely place to do PhD will be the one that I've done MA. Any suggestion and/or information would be pricelessly helpful to me.

  7. Hi. It's the one that leads to the PhD program. Don't remember the exact name. For the funding, my mistake. Sorry for the confusion. I have to apply for the French Embassy's scholarship which is external. And 630 is verbal. Did you apply for TSE as well?
  8. In: Texas A&M(PhD, $), Rutgers(PhD, w/o $), Toulouse School of Economics(M2, I'll apply for an external scholarship) Pending: Vanderbilt(PhD), U of Florida(PhD), SUNY at Albany(PhD), U of Toronto(MA), Queen's(MA), UBC(MA) --- Hi guys! I am thinking about Texas A&M and TSE. Interested in positive political economy, labor, public, experimental, corporate/financial history. Which institution do you guys think would be better to go? Initially TSE was my priority, but my friends doing their PhDs in the states say that Texas A&M is absolutely better. They say most European PhDs are not welcomed outside the continent and TSE is only good at IO and TAMU is not that bad.(but I heard that the Econ Dept at TAMU is sinking?) Thanks for your time. May god bless you all!

I finally post my results so far. :) I decided to do a PhD in Econ last year, so I'm not that well prepared. Among the admissions I've received, I am thinking about Texas A&M and TSE. Considering my interests, which institution do you guys think would be better to go? I initially thought TSE as my priority, but my friends doing their PhDs in the States say that Texas A&M is absolutely and definitely better. They say most European PhDs are not welcomed outside the continent and TSE is only good at IO and TAMU is not that bad.(but I heard that the Econ Dept at TAMU is sinking?) My dream is doing research and teaching at a research school. I know the reality, so I said dream not goal. But anyway, which one would be better? Thanks for your time. May god bless you all!
