  1. is X>0? (1) x + y > 0 (2) y=12 :D
  2. You sure the new area is 9?:hmm:I'm getting a different figure! We know that a= 5√2 => 7. Therefore, Height is 7 and Base is 7 too. Since the line is cut 2 inches from the hypotenuse, H= 7 -2= 5, and Base= 7 - 2= 5. This way, the area of the new triangle would be 1/2 5*5= 12.5... Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I'm getting and this is how I understood the question. However, with the second piece of information (2), I'm getting 9. (work: 40% 10= 6...So, the hypotenuse is 6. To get either of the two legs, we use this formula L=1/2 H√2, which gives us 4.2 (L = 1/2 6 √2 = 4.2). So, this means 1/2*4.2*4.2= 9. Hummmm, I'm not sure why I'm getting two conflicting answers, although with either piece of information ( 1 or 2) we can get the new area. I know it's a DS question, but still it's good to figure out how it works. I was wondering if ROUNDING-UP had a role to pay in this discrepancy !
  3. A circle is inscribed in equilateral triangle ABC such that the point D lies on the circle and on line segment AC, point E lies on the circle and on line segment AB, and point F lies on the circle and on line segment BC. If line segment AB=6, what is the area of figure created by line segments AD, AE, and minor arc DE? (A) 3√3 - 9/4 л (B) 3√3 - л © 6√3 - л (D) 9√3 - 3 л (E) It can not be determined from the information give Note I couldn't get a better symbol for "pi" than "л " . :D ENJOY IT!:)
  4. What if it was rotated 270 degrees instead of 90 degrees? what would the new slope be?
  5. Congrats! You are making it seem easy, but I'm sure you must have put a lot of time and effort into it.:) I was wondering about how long you studied for the exam, and when you started your first step on the preparation process.
  6. hummm if we have two perpendicular lines, their product should be -1, right? So, in this case, the first line has a slope of m and because the other line is perpendicular to it, its slope should be -1/m (m*-1/m=-1). Note I'm still not giving you the official answer and I'm not telling you whether your explanation is right:D! So, What if the two lines were parallel? :D
  7. Try Try TRY! I'm not getting an affirmative answer! I have the official answer, but I'm not going to give it out as yet! :D
  8. For the line whose equation is (y+2-b)/x=m +(2/x), m is not zero. If the line is rotated 90 degrees, then the slope of the line would be (A) 1/m (B) -1/m © m (D) -m (E) m-2 HAVE FUN! :D
  9. I have been trying to upload a graph and ask a relevant question about it, but NO SUCCESS! Can you please tell me how to upload a graph with a question?:hmm:
  10. In the rectangle coordinate system, triangle ABC has a vertex at point (0, 56). If point B is at the origin, then how many points on line AC have integer values for both their x and y values? (1) The third vertex of triangle ABC lies on the x-axis, and the triangle has an area of 196. (2) Point A has a positive x-coordinate and a y-coordinate of zero. GOOD LUCK :D
  11. :D The points (p,q) and (p-2, q+c) are both on the line expressed by the equation y= 2x + 5. What is the value of c? (A) -4 (B) -1 © 1 (D) 2 (E) 4
  12. I'd choose D! Again, it's not a perfect sentence, but the best option available.
  13. E is a better option than B. In B, "is orbiting the sun once a year" is INCORRECT!
  14. Interesting! :hmm: I'm not happy with D! The location of "although" doesn't look OK to me. E looks much better to me.
  15. According to some GMAT websites, "acclaim to be" and "acclaim as" are idiomatically correct. They are two of the idioms tested on the GMAT, so why did you consider "acclaimed to be" wrong?
  16. In this case, B doesn't break any major grammar rules. As far as run-on sentences are concerned, we start looking into the issue of whether a sentence is run-on after we have checked for grammar mistakes. In this sentence, all the options - apart from B - have grammar mistakes.
  17. B is not a perfect sentence, but the least flawed. I don't see any subject - verb agreement violation. Has refers to pressure not troubles, therefore B is considered correct - at least, in terms of subject-verb agreement.
  18. An artistic presence of the first order, one frequently ranked with Picasso, Stravinsky, and James Joyce, Martha Graham was acclaimed as a great dancer long before her innovative masterworks made her the most honored of American choreographers. (A) Martha Graham was acclaimed as (B) Martha Graham was acclaimed to be © Martha Graham's acclaim was in being (D) Martha Graham's acclaim is as (E) Martha Graham's acclaim to be
  19. State officials report that soaring rates of liability insurance have risen to force cutbacks in the operations of everything from local governments and school districts to day-care centers and recreational facilities. (A) rates of liability insurance have risen to force (B) rates of liability insurance are a force for © rates for liability insurance are forcing (D) rises in liability insurance rates are forcing (E) liability insurance rates have risen to force
  20. It's between A and E. I think we need to have a past perfect verb because of this part of the sentence --> "a concern that dissipated once she hung the mirror". My pick is E.
  21. TumiLee, The mystery is finally unraveled! It's a good lesson! I personally learned SOMETHING here; thanks for the link ^_^.
