  1. Ankish that is an urban myth that Indians are better than the rest at mathematics. True, the high school curriculum in India is rigorous, but at the undergraduate level, the playing field is quite level, in fact, i would venture as much as to say that an individual with a bachelors degree in mathematics has pretty much the same skill sets as any other contemporary regardless of their nationality. A 100% score is feasible, but dont fool yourself into believing that your nationality predisposes you to a better score or even better preparation. Furthermore, the test is not computational, it is actually a survey of knowledge and while most questions are trivial by the standards of the subject matter they are borrowed from, it is the vast spectrum of information that you need to prepare, that determines your score.
  2. sounds good. i took the test already but i think that had i had even a week of serious study i would have done really well. so in all probability i will be attempting the test again. do let me know how you want to do this!
  3. darn! i wish i had known this ahead of the additional 21 credits i took just to avoid the predicament of most graduate students who have to take senior level credits ahead of their graduate coursework. if this one single examination would have substituted all that, i could have spent the money on drinking beer and rooting sl*ts.
  4. unfortunately, you cannot cancel test forwarding after the test date unless you chose to cancel your scores. next time, the best bet is to have your scores reported, but dont list any institutions. this way, you have absolute control of where your tests scores would go, post exam.
  5. Not that i intend to take this exam, but when i took my subject test in mathematics this past april, i was intrigued when i noticed that save for 4 test takers, everyone else, about a dozen or so, were attempting the english literature subject test! Is this test a particular requirement for graduate programs?
  6. Mathematics GRE is not required for a Masters in Economics or Finance. Those programs determine admission on the basis of your grades, recommendations, any publications or research and your personal statement. In fact, the order of significance of criterion that determine admission are: recommendations, personal statement and publications, GRE general test score, GPA, and occasionally GRE subject test score. Occassionally however, a particularly brilliant performance on the subject and general test can help you gain admission to top echelon schools as they often hunt for latent talent that might be masked by lack of opportunity or encouragement. Though having said that, however recommendations, good research/publications and you need not lose a minute's sleep over your test scores. Considering you are a graduate of the IIT university of India, I am certain you will make it to your most desirable school! Good luck!
  7. If this individual is seeking compensation, i would recommend against any such deal... On the other hand, if the moderators of this site approve, i can post a torrent which i will update over the summer as i add my personal notes as i prepare for the april 2010 installment of the examination.
  8. While i am forbidden from discussing the questions, and i will absolutely never violate the agreement with ETS, i do feel that the exam this time was a bit easier. I finished in time, and though i did have to leave 5 questions unanswered as i could not adequately eliminate one or more incorrect choices, i did not feel it was wise to venture a guess. Nonetheless, i am planning on taking the test again this november, i had all but two days of preparation for this test and obviously i did not expect to achieve my target score. Anyone else who took the exam this time around? If you are in Houston, Texas, maybe we could collaborate efforts?
  9. when you sign up to attempt the exam, ETS will mail you an examination booklet which contains one practice exam that is reflective of expected questions on the test.
  10. So i have two weeks to study for this ruddy test and if anyone has experience studying for this test, could you care to arrange the following in order of significance: 1. Multivariable Calculus (Stoke's Theorem, Green's Theorem and all that velocity and acceleration business). 2. Differential Equations (solutions to homogeneous and non homogeneous equations). 3. Analysis 1 (Sequences, Borel Theorem, Properties of Compact Sets) 4. Analysis 2 (Weiberstrauss's Theorem and the rest of the stuff from W. Rudin) 5. Analysis 3 (Metric Spaces etc etc) 6. Algebra (Group Theory, Rings, Homomorphisms etc) I do know that this list is not exhaustive, but the rest, that i omitted are material i am already working on, its jut that in the limited time, i would like to focus my efforts and which of the above must i study at length? Any suggestions? p.s. this is my first post here so if the above is a bit redundant, forgive me.
