  1. I am out of my mind. Umass-Amherst is the institution I am talking about. Thanks.
  2. I got waitlisted. how is it likely to get an admit. they said that it is a small list. how does the system work? :(
  3. Hi Tommie. Do you know if it is quite possible to get in to their Phd program after doing masters there?
  4. I have not heard of funding either. Is it quite common to give out funding for masters students though?
  5. Thank you for your response AREstud. Do you know any place I can look at Masters placement at Davis? I am seriously considering where to go for my future PhD in ARE where I have choices of Minnesota, Davis, Cornell, OSU. It seems quite common for master to proceed to their PhD program in Minnesota, which is the important factor that makes me lean toward the program. I know Cornell or Davis has more reputation in terms of rankings and all but the problem is that I cant seem to find their list of masters student placement. Thanks again.
  6. How likely is it to get in to the ARE Phd program once you finish Masters program in the same department? I am talking about schools like Cornell, Davis, Minnesota, Ohio State. It seems Davis Phd is quite hard to get in with the completion of their masters according to their website.(2 of them proceed to PhD each year on average?) Is it the case for Minnesota and Cornell as well? What is the masters placement like for Davis?
  7. It says on the status. "Admission is contingent upon completion of your bachelor's degree. You must submit an official transcript with final grades and bachelor's degree posted to the UC Davis Graduate Admissions office." and it is posted today. Is this an admit? Anyone with Davis experience ? Thanks! I just asked because there is: NOTE: If the "Admit Provision" or "Deny Decision" columns contain a "Y", please refer to the following links for the full descriptions: and obviously there is no "Y" in the colums! Thanks guys! best luck to you!
  8. Just curious, do you think a phd student in, say, MIT is significantly smarter than a student in , say, school out of top 30? what I mean by smartness is, for example, you know it almost instantly when you see it while it takes like 1 hour to figure out what is going on for a normal student. if yes, what do you think is the factors that make a person so smart than others? earlier education? DNA? ... I know its a dumb question.
  9. Hello TMers, I was just wondering how these two department are different in terms of admission competitiveness, contents and rigor of work. Is it significantly easier to get in to ag econ reletive to pure econ phd? I personally am interested in developmental economics and the thought occured to me that having ag econ phd maybe better for me in pursuing what I want to achieve in later years. what can I do with ag econ phd degree? what is it they are doing at the department exactly? does anyone can give me any good information.? I really appreciate your input always. Thanks, BIOTHERM
  10. Hello TMers, I would like to get some advice on which course to choose for the next fall. which one is most valuable for Phd economics among these classes? I really appreciate your answers. Thanks, 300level Matrix Algebra Higher Geometry ODE abstract algebra&number theory
  11. how about "mathematical methods and models for economists" by Angel de la Fyente? I heard it is really good. any thoughts?
  12. :) I want to see Indian and Chinese GDP $40k per capita as well as all the sub-saharan Afica. Thanks you all for the great responses EVERYONE.
  13. what are the best books to study when your interest is in Development Theories?[clap][clap] Is macro considered pretty much same as developmet economics? Which professor should I follow? I appreciate your considerate answer.
  14. Hello. I am new here and was wondering if I could get some advice on taking on-line math classes over the summer. I was considering Stanford, Illinois and Wisconsin and Narrowed it down to illinois and wisconsin because they dont give numerical grade but pass/nonpass at Stanford. specifically, I was looking at the courses and found this..... MATH 285 Differential Equations Syllabus Intended for engineering students and others who require a working knowledge of differential equations; included are techniques and applications of ordinary differential equations and an introduction to partial differential equations. Prerequisite: Mathematics 241. Credit is not given for both Mathematics 285 and any of Math 284, Math 286, Math 441. (Counts for advanced hours in Liberal Arts and Sciences. ) 3 hours. Before enrolling in Math 285, be sure you are familiar with these concepts. MATH 286. Intro to Differential Equations Plus Techniques and applications of ordinary differential equations, including Fourier series and boundary value problems, linear systems of differential equations, and an introduction to partial differential equations. Covers all the MATH 285 plus linear systems. Intended for engineering majors and other who require a working knowledge of differential equations. Credit is not given for both MATH 286 and any of MATH 284, MATH 285, MATH 441. Prerequisite: MATH 241. 4 hours. which I found it difficult to judge what to take. Any advice on illinois or Wisconsin? 285 or 286? Thanks, BIOTHERM
