  1. Problems are mostly MWG. On average, I usually expect something like: 1 B, 6 B+, 3 A-, 2 A
  2. Micro at Georgetown is very standard. The first semester covers everything but game theory, which is the focus of semester 2. Most people find it to be the hardest of the 3 first year courses, but if you are working through MWG on your own you are probably well prepared. I personally would have no chance of doing well while working full time, but everyone is different. Grading... professors seem to average us at a B+, which sounds high but we need a 3.5 to preserve funding. Getting a B+ is easy, getting an A is not. Hope this helps.
  3. Native English speaker, two months of flash cards to learn full 3500 word Barron's list, maybe a month of math drills, and some essay help from English major girlfriend. 800Q, 740V, 6AWA
  4. For anyone attending G-Town next year, I figured out our schedule: Micro: Tuesday 6:15-8:45PM, Thursday 7:15-8:30PM Macro: Monday 10:15-12:55PM, Thursday 6:15-7:10PM Metrics: Monday 5:40-6:55PM, Wednesday 11:40-2:10PM Hope you like night classes! (and 3 day weekends)
  5. I'm shocked no one has mentioned brown rice. Brown rice is cheap as dirt and extraordinarily nutritious. For starving students, it is an almost perfect food. Also, it is delicious.
  6. This is largely my intended sentiment. RA positions can go either way. Since the ultimate goal is getting a PhD, blowing off a few years seems pretty silly.
  7. I currently RA at a regional fed and can honestly say that I have in some ways wasted the last year. Unless you are given some pretty big promises regarding the quality of your work, you are an idiot to delay grad school for 3 years.
  8. For what it's worth, they were really bad about responding to my e-mails even after they sent me an offer.
  9. Attending: Georgetown ($$) Other offers: Duke ($$), Rochester ($$), UCSD ($/2), JHU (tuition), Wisconsin (no $), Michigan (no $), Comments: Yay!
  10. Institution: MIT Program: PhD Economics Decision: Rejected Funding: NA Notification date: 4/12/10 Notified through: E-mail
  11. So... who else is going to the Open House on Friday?
  12. I really shouldn't always end with ellipsis.
  13. "Early April" sure is a broad window...
