  2. Institution: Tufts University Program: MS Economics Decision : Accepted Funding : None Notification Date: 3/19/2012 Notified Through : E-mail Posted on GC : No. Comments: Unsure about the program. I'm still considering going to BGSE, but this makes it a little more complicated...
  3. What about an Alienware lol? 16 gigs of ram and designed to be super fast
  4. my UG transcript from Berkeley says Intro to Analysis for a Real Analysis course I took so I'm guessing intro to analysis is actually real analysis.
  5. I think you're fine. Don't worry about not having taken any grad courses.
  6. Ithink I'm not going to have the additional recs from BGSE until I've finished the winter term. It's kind of pointless applying after just the fall term. It'll be like applying right now.
  7. I'm going to attend a 1year master's (btw, do American schools recognize 1 year master's?) at BGSE this year to hopefully launch me to a PhD program. But when I do PhD apps the year after the program is over, I'd like to have a job so I can pay back loans and just have something to do. This leads me to my question, Aside from investment banking what jobs can you get with a masters in economics? I see a lot of financial companies on the BGSE placement page, but what exactly do they do?
  8. Don't you need a 3.5gpa to get in?
  9. Try Barcelona GSE. I applied there at first as a safety, but it looks like I'll be headed there. It seems to be fairly new and now known as a pre-PhD program. I think they admit everyone that is aiming for a PhD program one day. I got a pretty generous offer even a TAship! I also applied to UCL's MSc that I think is known for the same thing, but I haven't heard back from them.
  10. This question is for Americans that took out a Sallie Mae Loan... I'm in the middle of applying for one, but there is no code for BGSE only UPF. I heard that your program coordinator retrieves the check for you, but I have yet to receive an e-mail from Esther Xifre, the economic program coordinator I e-mailed about this. How has your experience been with Sallie Mae Loans at BGSE?
  11. Yeah, might as well wait. I wish I applied to terminal master's programs in my senior year and PhD programs too last year. I'm definitely going to apply to wide swathe of programs after BGSE. Economics graduate programs are such an expensive and improper science.:grief:
  12. Hi. I ended up applying to only master's programs and while I have a place as a safety I'm thinking it would be a good idea to apply to PhD programs that are perhaps not the toughest to get into. I don't like the idea of going through applications after the master's program again. I checked UC Santa Barbara and Irvine, but they had a deadline in December. Same with USC >.
  13. Institution: Barcelona GSE Program: Economics Decision: Accepted Funding: Partial Tuition Waiver(9,000 euros), TAship(5,000) Notification date:12.18.2011. Notified through: email Posted on GC: no Comments: Submitted GRE scan
  14. Why do you feel the need to write a thank you letter? When i got accepted by e-mail, I didn't feel the need to write back. If it's to further your chances of financial aid then I suggest writing about how much you're looking forward to attending on a personal level, but only if you received aid.
  15. It's the program itself and any "advanced" module that gets me to worry. And anyone with experience in the program saying it's tough. I now have this image of BGSE as a relatively new school that admits any student with an interest in PhD that does have a great program, but because it's so new has relatively lax admission standards.
  16. I checked the syllabus and I think itll be a very proof intensive course. If you're very comfortable with proofs I think you'll be ok. Honestly though, I'm getting a bit worried.:sorrow:
  17. Hi. I plan on attending Barcelona Graduate School Of Economics MSc i Economics program. I got some financial aid in the form of a fee waiver and TAship, but beginning with visa purposes I'm $10,000 short. I asked around and they said they don't do financial aid in the form of Direct Loans and suggested Sallie Mae, which I view to be an expensive form of funding. Suggestions?
  18. I've heard many good things about Barcelona GSE, if youre thinking of a pre-PhD program
  19. Thanks. I think I'm going to go to BGSE -- their financial aid package makes it much too tempting, fee waiver plus TAship makes PhD prep be a vacation at its worst and a route to PhD programs in America at its best.
  20. Check out Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. They are known as a pre-PhD program, if moving to a doctoral program is your ultimate goal.
  21. Thanks. I hear that the program is tough time and again. I just can't conceptualize how hard and acceptable the program really is to top economic programs.
  22. Hi. I got a nice funded offer to Barcelona GSE's MSC in Economics full with a partial fee waiver and TAship. At the same time, I got rejected from LSE's MSc. Econ (Research). This gives me the feeling that Barcelona is a washout and since theyre not a good program that I got such a nice, funded offer. Am i wrong here ? :shy: I'm looking for a program that could catapult me into a PhD program and I read on the Econ PhD forum that some move onto UPF's PhD though I'm not sure what to make of UPF.
