  1. if they make a offer now it would be without funding right? or are there still chances of getting funding?
  2. Well i applied in Mid february, so i suppose they should have made a decision by now. What about u?
  3. thank you very much 'asquare'. you explained everything really well...!
  4. Courtesy to me, i emailed every single person in UBC including the dean and everyone else regarding the way Econ department was handling the applications. They lost my application at first! Which i found out after sending them 15-20 emails and calling them 10-15 times; finally after almost two months they had the courtesy to reply and told me that they finally found my application. When i emailed them back again asking whether they got all the required documents or not, they couldn't answer the question and also never replied to my email (its been a month now since i emailed them again!!!!) Anyway, so i had enough and emailed every single person in UBC telling them what was going on and to do something about it! Nobody is asking them to be nice, all i ever wanted was a reply to actually know the STATUS of my application...!!!!! I guess that's too much to ask for from UBC!
  5. well, if you do your Masters in US and they apply for Phd in a different school, is it still the same case?!? I mean do you have to start the program all over again (5 more years) ?!!?
  6. I noticed that a lot of LSE econ decisions are out....i was just wondering whether anyone got any offers or rejections from MSc in Finance and Economics program...
  7. then again, like i said, all the other universities that you listed fall in the same category as Stony Brook minus the location. And Stony Brook is pretty well known in NY and Manhattan is the best place in the world..lol!
  8. hahah, that sounds like a good idea.....i wouldn't be surprised if I see UBC at the bottom of the list.... And for the record, i did call UBC; whenever i called Econ dept., it went straight to their voice-mail and it was always full and whenever i called secretary staff they were either out of office or were very very unhelpful in giving me the answers i needed...i.e. the status of my application!
  9. Stony Brook is only known for its Med school. I have been to Stony Brook more than 30-40 times. I used to go there almost every weekend to visit my friends when i used to study in upstate NY. And i had a lot of fun there, i loved the place, had a great time chilling with my friends in Stony Brook! And the best part, it's an hour away from NYC, what else can you ask for (if you are a city person that is). i was totally in love with Manhattan and had the time of my life there. Well, if you want to have fun then this definitely is a great place to go but keeping social life aside, the quality of education is nothing great. In fact, the other universities that you have on the list are not very different from Stony Brook and probably has the same quality of education. The only advantage that Stony Brook has over those universities is that it's in a great location. So, if you choose another university from your list, then you would be sacrificing the social life for the same quality of education! Therefore, out of those 4 universities, i would recommend Stony Brook to you. And people in NY know Stony Brook (even though for med school but still..) It's also not that hard to get a job in NY (if you have any intentions of doing so) So all in all, i think Stony Brook is the best option. Good luck!
  10. Yea, in exchange for the 20 lines email i sent them explaining everything that happened and after sending the email to every single email add that i could find, there was a one line reply by someone saying that she would look into the matter and get back to me......!!! I guess, it means another 2 weeks of silence!!!!!!!!
  11. I am soooo mad at UBC, i sent them my documents on January 19th which they misplaced for some reason and found it again only after i sent them tons of emails with proof of delivery by FedEx!! I emailed Maureen Chin of Graduate Studies Department of Economics to find out whether they received all my documents or not and she just doesn't reply!!!! Finally yesterday i emailed to every single person's email add that i could find on the UBC website! I hope they finally reply my email! I was amazed how uncooperative UBC was! It also took a long time for Mcgill and U of T to reply to my emails and answer the questions properly whenever i emailed them! US schools just seem so much more efficient with the admission system! They don' take ages to make their decisions unlike the Canadian schools and reply to emails promptly!
