  1. Hi, guys and gals! Let try and explain. THIRST : DRIVE A) inebriety : excess B) success : ambition C) indifference : passion D) taste : gusto E) smell : sense WAFT : PLUMMET A) skim : glide B) dream : captivate C) toss : catch D) flail : assault E) meander : dash Thanks a bunch.:)
  2. Hi, I am new to GRE forum. Today I did some practice tests and was surprised by the way that ETS calculates the score. There are 30 questions on verbal part and I, with no preparation, answer 15 correctly. I think my score should be: 200 + 600*15/30=500. But it actually is 380 :o. I don't know why. Have anyone experience it? Thank a bunch.
  3. A. supply: donate B. argue: debate C. grumble: accuse D. drink: guzzle E. pacify: intervene The answer is D and it's reasonable but I don't know why can't be b? Thanks a million.
  4. IMO, B is the answer, should be independent. Rockets which work by chemical reaction and are independent of atmospheric oxygen. are used to power interplanetary space vehicles. Just my 2 cents.
  5. So the answer is B, a small difference. But IMO, difference can be both count and no-count

    Let discuss!

I personally think it's wrong but don't know why. Erin and others, Could you please clear Fortune's and my doubt?
  7. Tho

    grown

    We've discussed this question, it's a typo.
  8. Fortune is right, I didn't read the sentence carefully.

    New York City

May be I am wrong, but I think "which is" is redundant.
  10. Tho

    New York City

    1. A, we should omit "which is" 2. B, I am a bit confused, part should be "parts"
  11. 1. I think D, we use gerund here, expressing. 2. B, stated ---> we see "fell" here. 3. D, we should add "will", "may" or something like that. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Tho

    founding

I think it's not necessary to use "being" here, "musicians are now found" is OK.
  13. Yes, Fortune is completely right. In question 2 should be "many of the" or "many" only.
  14. B. much as, but I wonder if D is wrong? to Tho, "that" is definitely correct. why didn't you provide a reason for choosing that? you just guessed? ~ xua^n I don't think B, I choose D coz "that" takes the place of "the work"
  15. I've never seen the sentence like this: I've known him for the last 2 years. only: I've known him for 2 years. According to your post is "He has known her for last Friday" OK to you???
  16. How about question 2? I am really confused, "the last two centuries" can not be a period of time. I think the sentence should be: It has been known since the last two centuries that lightning is a form of electricity.
  17. I think B -->on hands, but not sure if we have to change cloth to clothing[xx(] I think D, is -->that. Just my 2 cents.:)
  18. About the first question, Phuoc is completely right.
  19. I think "In the West" I think C-->few Just my 0.02$:cool:
  20. I am confused, but I think D, will also. I think B, "the last" is redundant. Just my 0.02$
  21. I agree with you, but may be a typo here, economists. Sorry, B is my choice. yes, I think D, "temperatures".
  22. Tho

    2more Q's:

I think rise --> raise Agree with Fortune completely.
  23. Got it, thanks so much, my friends.;)
  24. I post a question in Erin's test here. After the Gold Rush in California in 1849 came [dramatically] higher number of [immigrants] than [had been] [seen in] the previous year. The answer is A --> should be a dramatically and his explanation is clear. But I forget the rule that when we should omit the subject, I mean the full sentence is After the Gold Rush in California in 1849 came a dramatically higher number of immigrants than it had been seen in the previous year. Thanks a heap;)
