  1. Being precise, it is not irrationality. Because having an apple today is different from having one tomorrow. They are two different goods. Nicely, people don't consider it as irrationality :)
  2. Thank you so much. Your comments were very helpful. So I should wait for other comments.
  3. Thanks a lot for your reply, and great comment. I appreciate it. So you don't think my GRE result bother me a lot. Moreover, do you have any suggestion, specially for top 20?
  4. No comments! Please, I need your helps.
  5. I was wondering if you evaluate my profile. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: BA engineering from a top engineering school in my country, in Asia. Undergrad GPA: 17.2/20 (you can consider it as A) Type of Grad: I was in M1 at TSE last year, and now I am in ECOMATH at Toulouse. Grad GPA(M1): 16/20, with distinction (mention Tres bien). My ranking is 6th among 90. Obviously, I have no result from ECOMATH by now. GRE: 800Q/300V/3.0AW I took it two years ago, I got really bad result. My problem is that I have not enough time to retake it. Math Courses (undergraduate): Calculus I&II, Differential Equation, Engineering Statistics, Probability Theory and Applications, Linear Algebra, Operations Research I&II, Probability Models & Queueing. I've gotten good grades in all of them. Since the grades format is strange, I don't write them. Math Courses (M1 courses at TSE): Dynamic Optimization, Advanced Calculus, Probability Theory, Stochastic Process. Again, I've gotten good grades in all of them. Econ Courses (M1 courses at TSE): Microeconomics, Econometrics, Market & Organization, Game Theory, Macroeconomics, Industrial Organization, Public Economics, Theory of Incentives. My results are good in all course, except: Econometrics, Market & Organization and IO. My grades in these course are about 12. I should mention the class average is also low, about 8 or 9. Econ Courses (1st Semester of ECOMATH): Microeconomics, Econometrics, Game Theory, Macroeconomics Obviously, I don't have any result by now. Letters of Recommendation: I think I have not strong LORs by now. In fact, I have just one course with each of the professors who wants to write LOR for me. I have gotten very good grade in their courses (1st rank), but that's all. They are really good economists at TSE, but of course not so famous. Maybe it changes, if I get good results this semester. Because we have courses with more famous professors this semester. But I guess I receive my results in the 1st of January which is late for asking the professors to write a LOR. Research Experience: Nothing by now, except my undergrad thesis which is in Graph Theory. At ECOMATH, I will start my thesis in December. Teaching Experience: I have many experience in my undergraduate which is not related to economics or math. Research Interests: Micro Theory, Contract Theory, Game Theory I am worried about my GRE grade (V,AW), my bad grades at M1 (metrics, IO) and I have not any idea about how good my LORs are. Please tell me in which universities I have chance. I was wondering if you suggest where I should apply.
  6. I have been admitted in the MPhil program. I'm just wondering what the chance of getting funding is. According to the announcements, Clarendon and Weidenfeld scholarships have been offered, and I don't receive anything. So I lose the two big ones :(. Regarding this, what is my chance of getting funding? and what are my option to increase my chance?
  7. Thanks a lot for sharing your information. it's a great reply. I also don't believe that it's inferior. But it seems that EcoMath has more reputation, and it may mean that adcoms prefer a student from EcoMath to a student from EMO. I realized it :D, and this is also one of my reason to prefer oxford to toulouse. In M1 also about 50% get the average below 10! You also experienced the exam week in toulouse, it's so stressful. I don't like the french system. I also think that many universities prefer 90% score of universities with inflation to, say, 15 of toulouse. And it is annoying. It is just a personal reason. However, in toulouse there are many students and just one Jean Tirol. So I guess there is a strong competition. I prefer a university with more faculties who are good at their field but are not as great as Tirole.
  8. You're absolutely right. In the last post, I said that I can not stay at Toulouse for PhD. You know better than me quitting Toulouse after DEEQA is impossible. So I should leave Toulouse after M2. Therefore I can get 4 field courses and few core course compare to Oxford. I really like the filed courses which are taught in Toulouse, because my interest is IO and contract theory. So my favorite option is M2 EMO + DEEQA, but it is impossible. And I think M2 EMO is not enough to being admitted at a good PhD program. I guess you're in M2, now. Would you please give some info about the M2 students who applied to US PhD programs this year.
  9. Thank you so much Fantiki. This year, also there are at least two guys who are admitted at Princeton and Yale. But the point is that they had a strong resume before coming to Toulouse, and they have been admitted before the result of the first semester in Toulouse comes out. I think we should not consider the admission like these as a strength of Toulouse. There are more admission like these in Toulouse, specially in M1. Since I do not want to stay in Europe for my PhD, I can not stay neither at Toulouse or Oxford for PhD. So I just care about the master placement, how the program strengthen my resume, and send a stronger signal. As I mentioned before, there are at least some guys in Harvard, MIT and Berkeley from Oxford. However, I do not have any idea about the placement of guys who have not a great undergraduate, but they were good at Oxford.
  10. Thanks a lot Jobu. I'm at Toulouse now (M1). I also think that M2 is more solid than the first year of Oxford, but the problem is with the second year. In Toulouse, there is neither any advanced course nor field course in the second year, most of your coursework will be done in M2. However, there are advanced courses and some filed ones at Oxford. I do not know about the level of the second year at Oxford, but I guess it is in a higher level than what is done in M2. I was wondering if you or somebody else give me some information about the level of courses in the second year of MPhil program.
  11. Thanks Fantiki. I just know one guy from TSE who has gone to Northwestern (after spending one year as a RA in Chicago). I was wondering if you give me more info. However, Oxford places regularly in MIT. Also I know someone in Harvard and Berkeley from Oxford.
  12. Thanks for your reply. M2 is also the first year of PhD in Toulouse. It also seems that Oxford is weak in Macro like Toulouse, but my interest is micro which seems that both of them are strong in it. What I care is whether Oxford has more reputation than TSE among US universities. Thanks for your reply. This prestige may be more helpful than the quality of TSE; if we suppose that TSE dominates Oxford in quality of program and faculties. Is anybody here from Oxford, to help us get a better sense of the program?
