  1. Hi everyone, Do you guys have any idea about the average starting age for a PhD in CS? what range of age is appreciated for joining a PhD program in CS? can age affect the admission? Honestly, my timeline indicated that I will be starting at the planned age of 25, it means that the graduation will be around 30 or even more, I think it is freaking me out. Your help is appreciated Thank you
  2. Thank you for your response MAndrew, what makes me think I deserve more is because I did order TOEFL practice online volumes (5tests + 2 independent speaking tests) did them on timed mode and always scored 26+. Moreover, I did feel at ease while doing the actual test because I was familiar with the test content plus its authentic presentation it felt like I was doing another practice volume at home. What I strongly fear is that they lower my speaking score after rescoring. So I was wondering if somehow you are aware of such cases and what are the chances of getting a score down. Thank you very much, indeed.
  3. I got a 24 on the speaking and I am thinking about a rescoring although I am not sure if this works and what are the odds of getting the score up. Honestly, I would love loosing the $60 over getting the score down. Please if someone has the experience with the rescoring process and the potential possibility of getting it down, your help is definitely appreciated.
  4. Hi, I made several attempts to create a GRE account but I always get the following error : "Our records show that you have an existing user name and/or password. If you have forgotten your user name and/or password, click the appropriate link below." So, I was wondering if there is a way to create a new account because apparently I've been stuck with this error and I don't know how to overpass it. Any kind of help is appreciated.:wallbash: Regards.
  5. I wish I could help you in this point because like I told you previously I took only 2 courses after that I decided to specialize in Information System. The only advice I can give you is to start familiarizing with the GRE because your score will have a total impact on your decision. As simple as it is : Good GRE will take you to Good Schools PS: The test is changing next August so try to focus on having a good score so as to avoid a retaking loop or a weak and uncertain application Good luck
  6. Let me first tell you that talent and curiosity are usually the tools of reaching success primarly because you feel that what you are doing is done by likeness and motivation not by obligation. Secondly, I think you've just hit the jackpot by choosing computer graphics :) especially in terms of mathematical toughness. According to my little experience knowing that I had 2 courses (Computer Vision & Computer Graphics) in which I was asked to make a project(Report+Source Code of The Application+Presentation slides) In summary of this, mathematics play a primordial and fundamental role in this field : Computer Graphics: Was about Mesh Denoising. Some of the papers I dealt with were : 1-http://ralph.cs.cf.ac.uk/papers/Geometry/MeshDenoising.pdf 2-Statistical mesh distributions for 3D object topology (I don't find the link) ... Concerning the implementation, it was done using MATLAB. In general, according to some colleagues the subjects were around (3D Lightening, 3D Movement, Mesh denoising...) and the implementation was either in MATLAB or OpenGL(C/C++). Computer Vision: Was about implementing the "Dynamic Programming" approach in 3D trying to match the pixels in the entry images and deducing the disparity map. The other projects were like Pixels Matching, 3D construction, Omnidirectional processing. (All the implementations were required in MATLAB) All in all, MATLAB stands for MATrix LABoratory, and both subjects require solid math reasoning. Moreover, if you peek the papers above you will have a bright vision that will push you make the right decision about this field. I hope my answer meets your expectations. If you feel It just go for it because hesitating won't make you progress. Life is tasteless without challenges. Otherwise, you have to pick one.
  7. Hi there, What you need to know especially for your case, is that the answer of being eligible to a MS program depends primarily on you. Otherwise, the answer you need to ask yourself is "Am I good at Maths?" because your experience wont be of a great influence on your application form. 1- You will be required to take the GRE General test and score high on the quantitative section (Math) 2- You are not, like you said, a CS major. So you'll be, in most cases, required to take the GRE subject test in CS in this test you wont probably have any question related to JAVA/JEE but you will have for sure mathematics questions. 3- Despite the field of CS you want to pursue your studies in (Information technology, Software Engineering, [signal|image|video] processing, Computer Networking...) the Math requirements are almost the same what varies from colleges or departments are the minimum scores. There might be exceptions but you can have further information directly by being in touch with the department you are targeting. Concerning your one year duration, I don't know the cause behind but if you are seeking a raise in your job, I suggest you to invest in a certification. They are widely recognized all over the world and can significantly raise your pay check. Moreover, they don't require a CS degree or a GRE you can directly enroll the class or study by yourself and then take the test (Oracle, SAP, OMG, CISCO...). Best of luck.
  8. Hello everyone, Is not mentioning TOEFL scores (just IELTS) in the admission requirements, a sign of not accepting it. Or, there is an equivalence scale between IELTS and TOEFL and I can submit my TOEFL scores even though. Thank you for showing interest. Regards.
  9. Hi everyone, GRE score reporting is cumulative. Test scores earned during the five-year period prior to the 2010-11 testing year (July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011) will be included in your cumulative score report. This is an ETS sentence but What I want to know here is whether the selection committee takes under consideration only the last score or all of the scores reported for people who took the GRE more than once. Regards.
  10. Hi Tommy, What I primarily meant is that in the PBT the score is measured by the number of correct answers but on the other hand, the CBT score is measured by the weight of an answer (40 correct answers can both give you a score of 700 or 500 it depends on the height in which you set the bar, the difference is significant though) you see what I mean here. So, my question can be formulated otherwise : for someone who has just taken the PBT (been familiarized with the paper test) does he have more chances to improve his score in the CBT. Thanks for showing interest I really appreciate it. Regards.

    Gre pbt vs cbt

Hi, I was wondering if you have any advice concerning whether it is appreciated to take the paper version or the computer version especially in terms of difficulty I took the PBT last month but I don't expect much from its score so I am planning to retake it and before I need to make the right choice. thanks for your time and consideration.
  12. here is your answer: http://web.fulbright.cl/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/toefl-and-gre-requirements-by-field-of-study.pdf Apparently i am in the same situation like you but I have a question: I guess from the test dates you took the CBT I was wondering if there is a major difference between the PBT and the CBT especially in terms of difficulty. Regards.
  13. Do you have any idea about the minimum score required in the GRE to apply for a Fulbright scholarship in CS. I will be grateful to you if you can give me an answer as soon as possible. My GRE is on this Saturday(Feb,12th) Regards.
