  1. Hi, Below is my profile GRE : 1310 ( Q: 710 V:600), TOEFL 90(S:23) College Computer science, BE, 78% Anna university 12th standard - 90% 10th standard - 95% Work experience - 2 1/2 years Expecting the following colleges, please suggest whether these colleges are ok, or I may lack chance, Texas A&M University--College Station (Look) College Station, TX University of Maryland--College Park (Clark) College Park, MD Virginia Tech Blacksburg, VA North Carolina State University Raleigh, NC University of Florida Gainesville, FL University of Massachusetts--Amherst Amherst, MA SUNY--Stony Brook Stony Brook, NY SUNY--Buffalo, Please advice
  2. Q : 710 V: 600 I finished my exam today. I am happy with the above score, but I am bit disappointed with my Quantitative score. :( This is my second attempt. First attempt got 720 Q, 370 V. This forum helped me a lot. I am also bit worried about whether official score would be different from unofficial score. I studied Barron's wordlist for more than 6 month. I practiced following things for verbal section, I think this would be helpful for you, 1) Barron's wordlist 2) Bigbook 3) Korean big book 4) Powerprep 5) 800 score practice tests( I dont think this as a good test practice and reading section is very easy, but most people from this forum prefer) 6) masteryourgre.com - website is excellent for me atleast, you can take individual practices. I felt great trouble when I took whole sections, because I was not able to identify weakness. After finding this website, practiced each section individually, and improved my power. I dont know the reason why I got lower score in quantitative, I think more practices needed apart from the following things that I did 1) Barrons review section 2) Nova preparation, ok, not excellent 3) ETS Math review 4) Go through this forum, you will get lot of formulas, which is excellent, no book can provide you with those details. 5) Again 800 tests, lot of word problems, no graphs, and other type of questions. 6) Barrons 5 tests, really good, was not able to finish the test within time
  3. yes I was wrong, I should have divided 10 / ( 1 - 20/100) ==> 12.5, thank you
  4. How many positive integers less than 10,000 are there in which the sum of the digits equals 5? (A) 31 (B) 51 © 56 (D) 62 (E) 93 Not able to find a simple way to find the solution for the above problem. Please explain.
  5. 2. In how many ways can Ann, Bea, Cam, Don, Ella and Fey be seated if Ann and Bea cannot be seated next to each other? (A) 240 (B) 360 © 480 (D) 600 (E) 720
  6. Thank you, I am solving problems from this pdf http://readyforgre.com/documents/Advanced%20GRE%20Math%20Questions%20-%20Version%203.pdf, can anyone explain the 1st problem on page no 18th.
  7. If x and y are integers and 2x – y = 11, then 4x + y CANNOT be (A) –5 (B) 1 © 13 (D) 17 (E) 55 my anwer is A, OA D. Please explain
  8. (x+y)^2 = (x-y)^2 which of the following are true? 1) x+y = x -y 2) y = 0 3) xy = 0 my answer is, since the equality is always positive, take square root on both sides then x+y = x-y 2y = 0 y = 0 Hence statement 1 & 2 are true. x^2 + 2xy+ y^2 = x^2 - 2xy + y^2 cancel x & y term on both sides 4xy =0 xy = 0 Hence statement 3 is true 1,2,3 are true, But barron says 3 only true. Please explain
  9. C:\Users\sankarmpech\Desktop\problem.bmp Please let me know, whether my procedure is correct. I reached to the solution by dividing 208/2 ==> 104 total speed of both cars x+x+8 = 104 x = 48 x+ 8 = 56
  10. For 3rd one, you can divide column A & B by K since K is positive, and it will not affect the inequality, you will get (sqrt(k))^3 and (sqrt(k))^2, since K > 1, square root will also result in greater than 1. Hence col A is greater.
  11. Paul, could you tell me which book can I use for getting the formulas for permutations and combinations, I dont see any forumula in Barrons.
  12. I think this might be the simplest way to get the solution Take square root, x+y ==> (+ or -) 3 Solve the equation x+y = 3, x+2y = 2, then y = -1 x+y = -3, x+2y = 2, then y = 5 From given answer choices Y =5
  13. that is also my understanding, Nova gives an explanation saying the above. It seems I will become baffled because of their explanation. Is the Nova's description wrong? It is a well reputed book? how it could be? am I lacking subtle understanding?
  14. x ^2 = y^2 Both x and y are integers. then Column A y^2 Column B xy Nova answer : D, my answer C say x^2 = y^2 take square root on both side 1) +x = +y 2) -x = -y x=4 Ex: -2 = -2 col A => 4 col B => 4
  15. what is the answer and how it can be derived? can you answer the above question? Still under confusion
