  1. My browser crashed while making payment to register for the TOEFL test and my payment was made as I received message on my cellphone but my data of registration has not been saved so there is no record of registration and there are no orders in the "view orders" although I have made the payment...what to do?
  2. Some people think internet is a valuable source of information. Others think that access to too much information causes problems. Which point of view do you agree with any why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer? Please give feedback on my essay for this topic: The internet has truly changed the world. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that it is one of the most revolutionary inventions of the twentieth century. The internet has changed the way we communicate, work and even take tests. It is one huge source of information. There are billions of websites on the internet providing information on each and every aspect of every subject. This free availability of information on the internet is not only a good thing but it has resulted in creating more aware and learned individuals. As a first example, take news for instance. Through the internet people are able to get news as it happens. Through the RSS feeds installed in every PC and cell phone, people are constantly updated on every story. The uncensored nature of internet has resulted in free dissemination of information in the true sense of the word. No medium is truly free like the internet. Hence now it is difficult for dictators to control and monitor the people’s views and opinions and it takes more than rhetoric to sway their opinion. Secondly, the easy availability of information has resulted in creating the smart consumer. Today, consumers do not have to step out of their houses to conduct a market research to buy a product. Just googling the name of the product takes the consumer to its website where all information is available. They can not only compare prices but also look at the comments given by other users to make an informed choice. That is why, when a customer now steps out to buy a product he is well informed and less likely to be duped by a clever sales person. Thirdly, the social networking sites have started a new phenomenon never seen before. Now even any information about a person is easily available on their social or professional networking sites. A single log in into a facebook account brings information about what our friends and relatives are doing. This information has made people closer than ever before. We can get photos of a cousin living miles away or get updates on his trip. This has resulted in creating stronger bonds. Now people do not feel separated even when they leave someone as they know they can easily stay in touch with them and get updates on their lives just like they did when they were together. In short, the internet is an extremely valuable source of information. Without actually requiring us to move a single muscle, it literally brings the world at our fingertips. All the information about our friends, family, interests, and happenings in and around the world is just a click away.

  6. I am an electronics engineering graduate but now I wish to pursue further studies in computer science? Is it possible?
  7. Thanks…J I cant exactly tell how much time I put in 4 studying cx I work so on some days when the workload was low, I would prepare for gre using the office internet …and on other days I could not get the time even to study at home. I enrolled in a gre prep class in jan and planned to take the gre in march bt one thing came after another and I was not able to give before may. By the way, my real prep started in april when I gave up everything xcept 4 gre and job. In the last 2 weeks it was total gre. I took a three day off from office just 2 revise vocab and do model tests. I suggest start learning vocab asap and make a target of a no of wrds per day and no matter what stick to it. I kept wrds in my handbag and kept revising them during long bus rides, lunch hours everywhere. Don’t get lazy in learning words. I did only 2,173 words but I would recommend do them all and keep revising the words cx it’s easy 2 4get them And no, I am not a native english speaker
  8. I just took my GRE on 27th and these are the results: 1330 (quant:740 verbal:580) Although I did not take much help from this forum in terms of questions but still I would like to thank everyone as this forum for me was a great help in terms of familiarizing me with about what to expect on the test day(as I read almost all the topics especially in this thread) and a source of motivation (as I read the point of views of the people who had gotten exceptional scores) Ok now over with the emotional blah blah and back to the basics: I got to prometric, my ID was verified and I was let in. I was asked to fill a form and given some basic instructions. Then I was taken to the exam centre, and my photo was taken(I looked like a cadaver in the photo they took of mine he he) PLEase note: do not take anyone with you to the centre as they do NOT allow anyone inside (even in the waiting room) except the person taking the exam. Also you will be asked to deposit all your belongings including wrist watches and cell phones in a locker. Ok so they sent me to the cubicle and started the prometric gre program. I quickly went through the tutorials of how to answer and everything (as I knew all of the things thru power prep) then came the time to fill the undergraduate details, I skipped that and then the test started. I was given the following two issue topics: TOPIC1 “It is the individual who is the impetus for innovation, the details may be worked out by a team but it is always the unique enterprise and perception of an individual that is the source of innovation” TOPIC2 “It is a grave mistake to theorize before one has data” I chose topic one and agreed with it. 45 minutes are more than enough to brainstorm and write the issue essay. I was left with at least ten minutes to revise and edit my essay but then again maybe because I am a creative writer as well so it wasn’t difficult for me to get the ideas flowing Then I got the argument. Here is to remind that all the issue and argument essays are taken from the pool of topics available on gre website so no need to look elsewhere just save those pool topics and practice with them. I got the following argument from the pool: "A new discovery warrants a drastic change in the diets of people living in the United States. Two scientistshave recently suggested that omega -3 fatty acids (found in some fish and fish oils) play a key role in mentalhealth. Our ancestors, who ate less saturated fat and more polyunsaturated fat, including omega -3 fatty acids, were much less likely to suffer from depression than we are today. Moreover, modern societies — such asthose in Japan and Taiwan — that consume large quantities of fish report depression rates lower than that inthe United States. Given this link between omega -3 fatty acids and depression, it is important for all people inthe United States to increase their consumption of fish in order to prevent depression." 30 minutes seemed less at first but I was done with the essay in about fifteen minutes as I really could not find more than two flaws in the argument Then I took the ten minutes break and just sat at the computer and prayed. Then my first section was verbal. I was glad to get a verbal as a warm up cx for an engineering student maths is more important. I had decide to allot my time like this: 12 mins (first ten questions) 10(next ten) 8( next ten) I did not get any reading coms in the first ten questions so did not have time management problems in that section but when I got my first reading com in the middle, even two questions took a lot of time and I fell back on time and the worst thing is that I got another reading com right after only one or two non reading com questions so I guessed on this one and then it was followed by another extremely looong passage. I was way behind time and had no patience for reading these passages so I just randomly guessed and moved on but then almost 2 minutes was left for the last question which is a lot of time so you see my time management sucked. My third section was verbal too and same time management problem occurred there TYPES OF QUESTIONS AND PREPARATION: To get antonyms right you have to have a solid vocab and vocab doesn’t only mean learning words. Try to learn meanings with their context. For me, the best way was to make flash cards and on the flash cards don’t just write the meanings, write short sentences as well. It would be best if you use sentences from ur own life. For example “fetid” is foul smelling so instead of saying “Bro! you stink” (if u say things like this ) write “My bro is fetid” and for vocab you MUST learn all 3500 words in the barrons word list. That would be enough. No need to look anywhere else. Same goes for analogies. After learning half of the vocab, start doing analogies by forming word relationships For sentence completions, vocab is important but the tone of the sentence is more important than the vocab. I am an avid reader so I can discern the direction a sentence is taking quite easily. If you do not read any English material except your textbooks please start reading now. Subscribe to an English newspaper, (If u cant afford to subscribe read any quality English daily online) and read at least a couple of books (it doesn’t have to be a classic even R.L.Stine and Sweet Valley would do) As 4 reading coms, I suck at them so I cant provide any advice. IF anyone has tips for reading coms, please od share Learn vocabulary and do all vocab exercises in Barrons and anywhere you can get Then there was the quant section my time allotment was 18 mins (first ten questions) 17(next ten) 10( next ten) I did not have time managment probs in quants as luckily I got only one data interpretation. TYPES OF QUESTIONS AND PREPARATION The Barrons gre 17h edition is perfect. The short techniques you find here will surely help you a lot in the quant comps which shouldn’t take more than 30 secs once you are done with this book. I would also recommend Princeton Review’s books for the other nitty gritties the Barron’s book seems to miss. I got coaching form Princeton so I got the book. I don’t know whether they are available in the market or not but I think they are. Also do all the tests on majortests.com as extra practice and subscribe to gre question of the day from TakeGRE.com and gre word of the day on TakeGRE.com At the end of the day,for quants just practice, practice and practice from any authentic gre material you can get from anywhere I started with 1190 and got 1330. I gave the power prep test just a day before the test and got 1330. No test evaluates your performance better than the powerprep. Give your first power prep at least two weeks before the actual test and try to overcome your weaknesses in the next weeks.and the final two days before the test Or better still register for the gre once you start getting your desired scores on the powerprep BEST OF LUCK!!!
  9. Hello everyone I am new on the forums...I tried searching for these questions on the forums but could not find them.
