  1. Hi! Is there anybody who is familiar about UIUC AAE program? How is it in energy and environment economics?
  2. Hi! Wisconsin Madison sent me an email which says `---``At this time, we are still taking stock of our funding situation for next year. If an opportunity to make you an offer becomes available we will notify you immediately.`` What does that mean actually? Is there any chance of getting fund? UIUC gave me funding last week. No other notification till now, and it seems that I do not have chance in Cal-Davis ARE. If you have any idea about WM ARE, please do share so that I can understand whether there is any hope or not.
  3. I also got a non funded offer from Wisconsin Madison AAE today. :(
  4. Hi! Great to have this one! I did not know about this forum before. I have got funding from UIUC Agricultural and Consumer Economics Department. And, only acceptance from Clemson Economics department. I asked them about funding, but they told me till now they cannot tell anything for me. I have applied to some other ARE schools too (like Wisconsin Madison, UCDavis, Michigan State). It seems people have got offer from these schools already (congrats!). I did not get any notification from these schools. Here anybody is studing in UIUC? How do you guys think about the school?
  5. Yes, you are right. I missed the point of co-authorship. Those papers are about CO2 emission, and most probably the other authors are from science. I started following field based specialists, as you suggested from journal authors. Previously everyone suggested to look on IDEAS..so I was following that. I will need your advice again, when I will finish school list! Thanks a lot again!
  6. Thanks Anonecon! I tried that book, that was hard for me. I will try that again.
  7. Congrats! You really have a great patience! :)
  8. Hi All! I want to ask something on Real Analysis, and as you are talking about it I am just posting my question here. Hope you will not mind to answer. In my undergrad I did not have the option to take other department's course. In my Economics department, I had advanced math which included Differential equation, Linear Algebra, Dynamic optimization, and a bit of Real Analysis. If I want to say specifically, I can understand Reny Jehle's Math part. But I do not understand "How to proof" thing. So I decided to do some self study of math. I have started to do Simon Blume and now I am in chapter 12. With this, I started to audit a undergrad Analysis course which is teaching Lay's Introduction to proof' book. That book is quite helpful. Would you please suggest me what other kind of resources can help me to understand Microeconomics proof better? (Like I struggle to understand MWG but before going to PhD school I want to make myself easy with this book). If you have any suggestion for me (it's all about self study), that would be great. Any lecture notes or book, if you think better for me...Please do tell. Thanks a lot for your patience.
  9. I really appreciate your suggestions, Walras. Thanks! I thought, Davis/SB both will be a tough choice for me. I followed IDEAS ranking, and by them both of these are in 30. At most I can apply to 13/14 schools. If I sum up, do you think North Carolina (and North Carolina State) are not good choices? And Houston? And will you suggest to apply Ohio ARE? About one thing I am confused...I like Resource and Energy Economics, read a bunch about Climate Change Economics also which attracted me (though I thought CCE needs a bit pure scientific knowledge about chemistry etc). If I go to ARE school, am I stopping the chance to go back in mainstream Economics? Like if I want to specialize on Development and Resource, is it possible in ARE school?
  10. Thanks a lot again. Ya! It would be better if I can take the test again. But given the situation, now it's not possible for me. :( They said that it is an indicator of their class, may be it is average. I will send email to grad secretary there to know.
  11. Hi Walras, Thanks a lot for your reply. I am not sure about the average of my class. May be this is the average. My first semester here, was horrible; I could not get a lot of thing in first days in North America and climate was also horrible for me. I tried but things did not work! :( And the professor, I guess, as I got highest in that 2 courses; they are unsure about me! I looked at Maryland, they require a 580 range verbal in GRE. So I did not put that in list! Would you please suggest me what type of top 50 school can be a choice for me?
  12. Hi all! I want to apply to some PhD schools for Fall'2013. This is my profile: Undergrad: In top 5% (CGPA- 3.95) but not very known university in South-Asia (Best in my country). Graduation: Masters in SFU (Economics), Canada. I am currently doing my paper, GPA will be around 3.5 Math Courses: My undergrad system was different than USA, but I took every possible options to take advanced math courses. I had training there on Dynamic Optimization, Linear Algebra, some real analysis, GRE: Old system (Verbal 430, Quant 800) Research Experience: 10 Months in Development Organization (in 2010-2011). My duty was to make survey questionnaire, doing data work, making report etc. Teaching Experience: Doing TA job for 4 semesters. LOR: I intend to take all the recommendations from grad school, Most probably- Macroeconomics Professor, Applied Econometrics Professor and Financial Economics/ Experimental Professor. Research Interest: My current paper and previous experience is on Development Economics, but I have interest in Natural Resource and Environmental related issues also. I like research process in Behavioral Economics too. Now, I know my limitations: like verbal part of my GRE, not known undergrad school etc. I am confused where actually I should apply. I talked to my professors about school names but they seem to be very optimistic. I do not see any benefit to apply to top 30. I made a list, but at last I have to pick up 15 schools. I need some suggestions from you about the good schools where I should take chance. 1. Queens and SFU in Canada. 2. Rutger University 3.Iowa State 4. Texas Austin 5. Notre Dame 6. Colorado Boulder 7. Indiana University 8.Chapman 53 9. Clemson 10. University of Oregon 11. Oregon State 12. Georgia State 13. Wyoming 14. North Carolina Chaper Hill 15. Rochester 16. Brandeis 17. Houston 18. North Carolina State U What do you think about these schools? And any other school to apply? Please do suggest what will be the best way for me to approach.
  13. Thanks, Economists. I will try my best to follow your advice. Take care.
  14. Thanks a lot Economist! You know details and it helps a lot. Kasa is teaching only in fall PhD program , of course there is no bar to take the course. Till now I was thinking to take PhD Micro course with the project, may be I should think about Kasa's course. In fall I attended two classes, then I was not prepared enough to take his course. In last 2 years (or more) I think UBC did not take any student from SFU! Last year highest GPA guy also applied, but he did not get chance! Actually the placements here is so frustrating! Should I request any professor for research assistance ship or something like that? Will it help? Thanks a lot again.
  15. Thanks a lot, Marshall. I did not understand that before. This is the profile. Type of Undergrad: Economics Major Undergrad GPA: 3.95 Type of Grad: Economics Major Grad GPA: Not finished GRE: Q 800, V 430 Math Courses: Real Analysis, Dynamic Optimization, Differential Calculus etc. Econ Courses (grad-level): Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Applied Econometrics, Financial Econometrics, Experimental Economics (till now) Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematical Economics, International Trade, Econometrics etc. Other Courses: Letters of Recommendation: Research Experience: 9 months Teaching Experience: Teaching Assistant for 2 semester. Research Interests: I am really not that much focused on any specific topic till now, I would like to work on Resource Economics, Development Economics, Financial Economics. SOP: Concerns: Other: Applying to: ---- Yes, I got your point about LOR. I will talk to the professors that I can have some idea about their opinion about me. Thanks a lot!
