  1. I know I am not the first one who post such a thread. After a year of pursuing my past dream to get PhD, I changed my mind. That's because: - I found that PhD is not for me. In another words, reaseach is not for me. I realized what I was going to get myself into. - I lost Fulbright's scholarship six months ago since I had to apply for academic year 2011. - Like the memoral quote of Alexander Graham Bell says; "when one door closed, another opens...", I got two doors opened for me. First, I got a full-time job in an economic section of a decent jounrnal in my country. I find myself more interested in journalism, though I did not know that from the beginning. Secondly, I met my soulmate who does not prefer to leave my country. I think discovering that I am not interested in research now is better than discoving that after getting into any program and drop out. Thus, I have to thank you as you were very helpful, especially PhD in economics forum. And I am going to say good bye since this will be my last thread in the forum. Good luck in your life. Good luck in my new life :)
  2. Deleted... Since I decided not to pursue PhD.
  3. Well, how do you recommend this book as a reference to linear and dynamic programming? How far should I read? Should I read up to non-linear programming and decision analysis? Thanks :)
  4. Thanks tm_gure. I didn't know that.
  5. Why do you all worry about microeconomics? Does the micro is the big challenge in the first semester? Don't we need to read anything in macro or metrics before heading to grad-school?
  6. Well, I will include my resume. Remember, you do not want to bother the admission committee with redundant information.
  7. LOL... I do not think that you want to be an assistant professor at my current institution because you will get students queued at front of your office since you do not have an email. Now that sounds like hell :D
  8. I know this may sound odd, or even unbelievable, however, this is the truth. Two of my LoR's writers do not an email cause they are above 60's years old, moreover the using of email in our daily life in my country is very limited. They are two respected economist. I do not know any other professors to substitute them. They know me very well as I studied and worked with them as TA before. Actually, the other substitutes hold their PhD from a local university and they have not published after they got their PhDs. Moreover, they using a non-professional email e.g. @yahoo.com What should I do? e.g. Tell my preference universities that I will send my LoR as a hard copy in a sealed envelop? How will this affect my admission's decision? Thank you
  9. How far can the place and the prestige of the university affect your choice? e.g. May be I put Notre Dame over Rutgers due to its prestige, or I put GWU over UT-Austin cause I like to be in DC than TX.
  10. Also, I would like to ask, what about B.com? B.com stands for Bachelor of Commerce which is usually offered in my country.
  11. I heard that they study Varian in master level. So I think it would be doable without real analysis.
  12. I studied Froyen's Macroeconomics and Policy. Should I read Mankiw's also before entering graduate school?
  13. It seems to be helpful, especially the section that is dedicated for graduate students.
