  1. Hey guys! Been busy with college, so, couldnt reply earlier. Anyway, for all of you who are asking about verbal, read anything you can find. Even the newspaper helps, amazingly! Read with a dictionary with you at all times. There are so many words we think we know the meanings of, but, are wrong. I hope I can help, but, I think most of you who have asked are done with your GRE already. Sorry, pals. Good luck to everybody Take care :)
  2. Hamidspam, Psyoutlaw and craig, thanks a lot!!! About the words, keep reading. That way you remember the context that you came across the words in. That is easier to remember. About GRE math, to speak the truth, I did not have too much time, so, I took a few math tests, and I was doing decently. So, I didnt study math AT ALL. I spent all the time I had on verbal. All the time. And, towards the end, the last week, I took one math test everyday. The percentile is Q-94 V-98 Take care, all of you and good luck. Erin, where do people post messages about their applications and whether they hear from universities, etc.? Here??? :)
  3. It depends on what department you want to apply in. Check out the websites, and apply soon, if you want to apply for fall 2003. The deadlines for many are over, but, there are plenty of univs with deadlines as late as march... Good luck Keep us posted :)
  4. Hey! I took my test on 6th dec and didnt get my score report till the 15th of jan. But, the good news is that the scores were ready. So, when I called ETS, they had my scores and the univs had my scores within 4 days. So, shouldnt be a problem. Good luck. Keep us posted
  5. Hey krishna. Take as many tests as you can. Keep learning new words. Read anything you can lay your hands on. The newspaper is a good choice actually. You will be surprised at the number of words you find there. :) Good luck
  6. smile

    need information

The score which is good depends on the university you are planning to apply in. The words from barrons are not always enough. Keep taking tests, you will come across new words. You work experience, (I dont know much about this) might help if you can get good recos from your employer. :)
  7. Hey everybody!!! Thanks a lot again. Got TOEFL tomorrow. Took my first test today. It isnt over-confidence, just lack of time. :p Exams going on for the past 10 days. Internals, labs and all that. Any suggestions or comments for universities.
  8. Thanks everybody for the wishes. Checking out universities. any suggestions? Electrical and electronics

  11. Thanks, amigoro!!! Now, that I read it again, it does seem a little too harsh. Thanks a lot for the review! There is a particular issue topic which I cant understand. 85. "Government funding of the arts threatens the integrity of the arts." Any points for this? First of all, what exactly does it imply? I will try and post this as another topic as well...
  12. You just said it yourself, dude! It might just be the beginning. Dont let your scores disappoint you. Go on with the TOEFL, and the scores are not as bad as you think they are. Explore all the possibilities!!! :)
  13. You just said it yourself, dude! It might just be the beginning. Dont let your scores disappoint you. Go on with the TOEFL, and the scores are not as bad as you think they are. Explore all the possibilities!!! :)
  14. guess all of this is perfectly right! There are no short cuts. Try using the words you learn in sentences. That helps a lot. And, keep going through the words you learn. Dont stop looking for new words. You will never be fully prepared for the verbal. There will always be new words...
  15. That was an amazing score, if there could be one!!! I hope these scores somehow inspire me... GRE in 4 days!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!
  16. hey! that is a good score. Wish you luck in everything you are planning...
  17. Hey sri! Glad to put a smile on your face... :) There, another one! GRE's around the corner. I hope you are right about my GRE score. After the test I took today, I have my own doubts about that. Good luck with your apps
  18. I have written an essay on the same topic. GRE in 4 days now. Somebody please review. :) The following appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature's Way, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products. "Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville's schoolchildren are required to participate in a 'fitness for life' program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age." In the author's opinion, Nature's way, a health product store should build its new store in Plainsville. He supports his absurd claim by stating that the residents in the city are very health-consious. This conclusion has been apparently reached by the observations that the sales of exercise wear have increased, the local health club has 'more members than ever' and that the schoolchildren are 'required to participate' in a fitness for life program. The logical gaps in the argument are very obvious. Firstly, the analogy between health food and exercise is not a most direct one. A lot of people who exercise, could be doing so for the simple reason that they can't resist eating. The fact that a certain person is particular about exercising does not imply that he would be just as enthusiastic about health food. The author notes that the sales of running shoes and exercise clothing have increased. He has not, however, mentioned how much the sales have increased by, or how much they were initially. Besides, buying exercise wear doesn't necessarily mean that they were put to use. They could have been gifts, afterall, to just state one reason that someone might buy exercise clothing and not use it. The author also mentions a local health club, that has been closed for five years. It is needless to say that the club was not doing very well, earlier, like the author seems to allude. The fact that the members are more than ever does not signify anything, since the number or the percentage of increase is not known. It could just mean that when the club closed down, there were zero members and now, the number is increased to one, which would be more than ever! The fitness for life program that the schoolchildren are 'required to participate in', does not help the argument in any way, since the program is probably just a compulsory one, that the students have to attend, and there is no information as to how many of the students are interested in it and to what extent, if at all, the program is influencing them. The author has not presented any statistical information or any reliable source to convince the not-so-gullible public. It seems like a publicity stunt, which would help their business once they build the next new store in Plainsville. The argument thus, is not cogent and is based on ill defined premises.
  19. Hey!!! Congrats! Good job!!! Real good score... Dont know much about the CUNY. will try and find out...
  20. I wonder if there is anything left to say. Iam not the least bit surprised about your verbal scores, but,a little bit about q, but, I guess that is not too much of a prob, since 740 is not bad in any way! GRE in a week, so, I dont know what exactly your score does to my morale... :) Any tips?
  21. Hey! The one about comets... No evidence to prove that any comet ever collided with the earth. Besides, the oceans comprise 3/4ths of earth. SO much of water from comets, unlikely. Not too many points for this... The other one... just because happiness implies activity in the left... , doesnt have to mean that the activity would cause happiness. CAusal fallacy. Mental depression can be due to many reasons. Isnt necessary that it is cured by this. These two dont really have any good points. Tell me if you find any...
  22. I guess you are right. Was wondering why I didnt get a review from you, amigo-ro!!! Will check out that one also...
  23. thanks a lot, Erin! And, ofcourse, Amigo-ro!!! The list is indeed really helpful... Need help with this. Which univs do I apply to according to the score? In the sense, I am checking out which ones are good, medium and low. But, what scores are good in the new pattern???
  24. Is this an amazing score or what? CONGRATS, there! Way to go!!! Which univs are you applying to? Good luck with all that...
  25. Hey! thanks, guys... I think you are right about not referring to the author too often, rather not at all. I have posted another one. I havent got any comments on that. GRE just a few days off, so, pls review that when you guys have the time. Thanks.
