  1. Actually, it depends on the balance between practical and theoretical approach. I am exploring the strategic management track also. Thanks evergreen to indicate another aspect (I was thinking to explore but did not have rationale!).
  2. Thanks evergreen! I have collected 100+ articles on my interests (most of them are from Journal of Marketing) over last 6 moths and now trying to shape up / sum up. Regarding my work experience, I thought it could be helpful as my interest is in pragmatic application of marketing research. Can anyone help me with a link / source of sample SOP for mkt phd? (thanks in advance)
  3. Thanks evergreen! Regarding CB or not-- that is my confusion. My interest is managerial/ practical implication of marketing theories. I will need to review the literature , examine practices and produce new insights - something like more strategic. As for example, (RQ) the managers and social media or Omni-Chanel distribution and 2.0. I can not say it either CB or Quant. I will try "essays" approach (as most of HBS) than on single topic. Regarding Research Experience: I am managing an online panel for a fortune 500 giant for last 9 months. Each week 2 regular study (n=500). I conduct the analysis part. Do you think it is a competitive advantage?
  4. Thanks sb29 for REALLY helpful feedback! I already have some related papers including a study I want to replicate. One of my chooses topics lacks available literature/article/text from marketing point of view. last line of the 2nd para of your response answer my confusion. By consumer behavior model I mean - theory > practice > new theory of consumer behavior related topic. BTW, so far, my plan is to follow "essays" approach rather than one single topic in SOP and hopefully afterwards. Any helpful advice?
  5. Thanks eventualprof! Yes, currently I am totally focusing on GMAT. Another concern is lack of math coursework. I did calculus a decade ago! Hope my research courseworks will compensate somewhat. BTW, my experience was not related to big data in conventional sense (e.g.data mining). But it was an alternative approach to track the industry movement years after years! (was really interesting!). My interest is on managerial implication of research - grossly marketing strategy and social media convergence (so.. a punch of big data; but I will try to avoid the term).
  6. GMAT: will retake on July (600+ in 2012) MBA: 3.33 (from a premier institute of South Asia, top 2%) MMR (Ms in Marketing Research) : 3.6 (USA, one of the oldest MR program) Work Experience: 8 years in Telecom. As Territory Manager, Operation Manager, Business Analyst, Sales Analyst and Marketing Research Intern. Two telecom giants. (Fortune 10 company) Unique Experiences: Worked as roll-out manager of worlds first Telco-FMCG model, developed real-time market information and BI collection tool, developed contents for field-force training, managing panel research (with top firms). LORs: will be fair (finger cross) Related Courses: Statistics, SPSS, Research Methodology (I, II), Multivariate Analysis, Advertising Research, Social Media Marketing Research, International Marketing Research + 20 MBA courses (Marketing) What should be my realistic targets? My targets: Rotman (Canada), Wisconsin-Madison (USA), INSEAD (France), Monash (Australia) [based on my SOP and faculty interest]
  7. I am a bit confused- how can I separate my concentration / segment for mkt PhD SOP? For example- I want to focus on consumer behavior model. What should I say – CB ? or Quant? Any thought?
  8. Actually we have to find out that the pie High Cruise was enjoying is decreased BUT earning and profit is not decreased. The possible reason is the customer number is increased. E is not the answer because- operating business in other country does not necessarily means the positive earning figures. (think about a hi-tec organization is operating business in a3rd world county just to get the first movers' avantages and to develop market and earn greater volume/ profit in future. Initially the organization must have to ignore initial loss. ) Hope the explanation helps.
  9. VG: golden age in recent decades. HOWEVER, some : will be over early: good things HOWEVER, eco. down -> designer/ company close-> less competition -> less innovation... unhappey gamer. A. this is the effect NOT the cause. OUT B. another effect before root cause (eco. down>less competition). OUT C.if we got "economic downturn" in the option, I would go for it. AS the BEST available option C wins. D. Simply opposite. OUT E. Effect not Cause. 2. here is only one paragraph.!
  10. I think. The correction is to be - "Scientists have prove that photovoltaic cells convert sunlight to energy". Here is my $0.02 - we can use convert ... into, if we find something new (transform). Here convert ... to is to be used as it refers to modify something for different functional purpose. It is much like " contvert sofa to a bed" rather than "convert gold into cash" HTH

    color coding

(I don't why) I sometimes feel insecured with P&C. In that case, I get back to the basics. The following way can be helpful (to some of us) Write down distribution centers numbers ( as 1. 2. ..3 15) then gives them color (as A.. B...C ...) 1. A 2. B 3.AB 4. BC (AS ORDER IS NOT MPORTANT TAKE ANOTHER COLOR) 5. C 6. CA 7. CD 8. D 9. DA 10. DB 11. DE 12. E 13. EA 14. EB 15. EC It is basic, but managable flawlessly Cheers !!!
  14. First sentence points that. C is the pick.
  15. Can anyone elaborate a little? No offence, both the question and the answer are beyond my understanding.
  16. Q. 17. For verbal 1. MGMAT SC (solve related SC s from OG) 2. CR Bible 3. Aristotle RC 99 + MGMAT RC (first read MGMAT RC than Aristotle RC 99)
  18. Yes. Guessing ! Consider the full fraction as 12.83K / 23.83K ~ 13/24 . it is ROUGHLY half. eliminate A (one third) eliminate B (~one third) eliminate D (> two third) we left with C. HTH

    Geometry

    Area of the triangle = 1/2 * t * sqrt(t^2+(1/2t)^2) = 1/2 * t*sqrt(5/4t)^2)) = 1/2* t * t sqrt(5)/ 2 = sqrt5/4 t^2. Area of the square = s^2. ratio - s^2 = sqrt 5/4 * t^2 = s^2/ t^2 = sqrt(5)/ 4
  20. Dear Lonly ! Dont relay too much on so-called "official answer"s. If you search and study (in-depth) the posting of the forums, you will find many materials and so-called OA s of those wrong materials.Official answers (apart form OGs/ VR/ QR and MGMAT) are NOT always correct. (dont infer that all the materials are incorrect!). Even OG has OAs not consistant to its explanations.( I know you have some standard materials in you prep, study them you will find some examples ! ). SO, we have to think and discuss beyond the Official answers if we are not convinced. There is no scope of memorization!. I think we have enough of discussion on official answer.
  21. nobody tells us that if someone is German then he is an idealist. The stimulus tells us that all German philosophers, except Marx, are idealist. Can we infer that All the German are philisopher ? For my part, NO. Do "if someone is a German" refer to German philisophers ? For my part, NO. German NOT = German Philosopher. Can you discuss what is wrong with option4 ? That will help us to come up with a new approach to discuss a question.
  22. Nobody tells. Actually, extreme word (all, every, none) is to be avoided in GMAT. it is too specific. maximum NOT = EVERY.
  23. Very Good explanation gmatmix780. Thanks.
  24. A. that does not have clear precedent B. 'purchase of 1803' should be purchase in 1803. C. Correct one. "in 1803" (ok). the United State acquired .... its size and .... its border ... parallel (OK) D. ... Louisiana purchase of 1803. (year should be followed by 'in' instead of 'of' E. ... the US bought it ..' it does not have clear precedent. My pick is C. However I am not satisfied with my own explanation. There must be some additional mistakes...
