  1. rsaylors, I read your PhD post about 3 times. It is an excellent post! Thank you for the clarification. I intened to go ahead an apply with the current score. Would prefer TX over Mississippi schools but any would do. Will contact professors in my schools to see if I can help them in their research just to boost my application. Will do everything needed. If retaking the GMAT appears inevitable, will do that also. The test ,- I thought - was easy to beat after one learned the types of questions that prevailed. I have done a lot of research over what to expect while enrolled in a PhD. I am mentally prepared for a very long and ardous journey. This is no JOKE! Also, the reason why I am more interested in teaching than research (even though a PhD's purpose is research) is simple. I plan on permanently leaving the US once I finish. As you know, research is very expensive and there is virtually 0% chance that I would obtain funding in my (other) home country. Anyways, thank you all! Have a great day.
  2. Thank you all. If tax is almost impossible, financial would be ok. You can always teach intro to taxation or something similar, right. I have no problem retaking that darn test. Staying in a small room for 3 hours won't prevent me from my goal. To conclude, beside the previously mentioned PhD programs are there any other you folks know of that would be realistic targets? Not just taxt anymore.
  3. Thank You very much! I should have stated that I am a US citizen and not an international applicant. I am open to retaking the GMAT and I am confident I will score higher. I can't do anything about my UG GPA. I will start looking at the schools you mentioned. To everybody else: Any other schools you suggest looking into?
  4. Hello everyone, I have been reading the forum for the past 3 days. It is very informative! Before asking my question I want to let you all know that I tried searching for a profile similar to mine. I know you all have busy lives and it is not right to waste your time. I did not find anything that would resemble my profile and I decided to go on and register anyways. I have: Undergrad in Finance GPA 3.2 from a public Uni in Florida. My weak GPA is the result of working full time while attending school. I am almost done with my Master of Science in Acc at the same Uni. Graduate GPA 3.85 with 3 courses left. I predict I will have at least a 3.7 or may be a 3.8 once the program is finished but 3.7 is a conservative estimate. GMAT 640. It is rather low and I know it. When I took the exam I had to score much less for my masters admission. I used a Kaplan prep book over 5 months reading 10 pages today and 10 pages the following week. I was not systematic and I feel that if were to prepare properly for the GMAT I would certanly increase my score. I have no professional work experience. I have no research experience. Ideally, I want to study Tax. I am fascinated by how taxation policy affects every political decision. I have no interest in top programs and I know I am not competetive anyways. What are some other programs I can pursue? It doesn't matter to me as long as funding is provided by the school. I plan on finishing the PhD and returning in my home country to teach in a college there. I know from contacting UT in SA that my profile is somewhat reasonable. FAU told me that a higher GMAT score is advisable before applying. But what other schools are there? Your help is greatly appreciated.
