  1. @ brg: I understand that there are ususally 30 poeple per class. I'm not quite sure how easy or difficult it is to get involved in research. But judging by the placement record of MSc students in top 10 Phd programs I'm guessing there's close collaboration between students and the faculty. I have it from an alumni that it is not too hard to get a TAship. @ all: We should all join Barcelona GSE Facebook group
  2. Hi Pete (did I get your name right?), I've already accpeted my BGSE offer, although I still haven't heard from BU. Anyways, at this point, even if I get a funded offer, I'm pretty sure I'd still go to Barcelona. The reason for that being that I think that both programs are equally good in macroeconomics, yet at BU there's nobody doing experimental research... which is one of my interests. I'm really undecided as to whether I'll be staying at BGSE for the Phd, I think it's too soon to tell. Hopefully more poeple will join this thread!
  3. Hi! I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all of us that will be attenting the Barcelona GSE's MSc in Economics program. Congrats to all and I hope to meet you soon! Btw my name is Ricardo, I'm 23, and I'm from Lima, Peru.
  4. Hi, I too applied to Toronto's MA (doctoral stream), and ended up getting an offer for the regular stream. I was told that my profile was "very strong" but that they only take an "extremely small amount of international students." I came to know their decision as a reply to an email I sent them telling them that I had a fully funded offer from Barcelona GSE, and that I needed to give them an answer shortly. Maybe things would have worked differently if I were Canadian (which I'm not). Anyways, I'd rather live in Barcelona... @bclemon: I got my admission offer in January 16th with a partial tuition waiver (6000 EUR). Two weeks ago I got another email telling me that I had been offer a fully funded scholarship... Maybe you'll get lucky too?
  5. @ oleador: Hi, I was browsing through UPF's website, and I saw that for the second year (MAS in Economics) one could either take 6 courses + thesis or just take 9 course. (1) I was wondering if there's a list of the courses one can take in the second year? if so, where can I find it? (2) I've been offered a full scholarship for the Msc in Economics... but I have received no info as to what are the posibilities of funding in subsequent years. Any word on this topic?
  6. @ Wooky: Thanks for all the info you've posted on this thread! I emailed Judith and, you were right, there's no waiting list for funding. @ all: I'm really torn between BGSE and TI at the moment (I'm still waiting on 4 more schools). I'm into macroeconomics (which I know is not TI's strength) but also behavioral-experimental economics, which I hear is GREAT at TI. So, sadly, I thinnk I'll have to base my decision on other considerations. Would you mind trying to answer some of these questions? (I understand this is a TI thread, and that answers may be biased, but I'd still like tou hear your oppinions) (1) Is it true it is hard to get recommendation letters from teachers at TI? In case one wants to finish the Mphil and then pursue a PhD elsewhere. (2) Earlier on this thread I noted some complaints about some TI professors in th first year (If I recall correctly poeple seem to really dislike the macro teacher). Do you feel these professors were so bad to the extent that you feel you learned nothing? (I've had one of those before, and that really crushed my motivation). (3) Money-wise, BGSE just offered me a full scholarship + 1300EUR stipend, while TI has given me no financial support. Given that I qualify for a reduced tuition, I would be able to afford TI for the first year... but certainly not for two... Can anyone give me some info as to what percent of first year students (funded or not) have been able to get or maintain a scholarship for the second year? or, what percent of a regular TI entereing cohort is able to get a 7+ GPA in the first year? (4) Is there anything I wouldn't be able to find online about TI or living in Amsertam that you think would help me make my decision? thanks so much!
  7. Crap!... Now that I know that BU has started to send out admission offers my productivity will plummet. Congrats to BU admits!
  8. Hi, I have been admitted to TI without funding. Does anyone know if TI has a waiting list for funding, in case some applicants that were offered scholarships turn down their offers? I hold both Peruvian and Belgian nationalities and, because of the latter, I'm entitles to a reduced tuition fee.... yet I'm not sure I'll be able to meet the living expenses. I'm really excited about by acceptance!

  13. There are 3 Tinbergen Institute rejections on GC... Has anyone contacted TI to find out when will they start sending out admission offers and rejections?
  14. I emailed NWU, they said that all applicants will be given an answer by this Wednesday... But I think they were talking about rejections, cuz it seems that the have already sent out all admission offers.
  15. The email is: econphd@northwestern.edu you should address your message to Mercedes Thomas. This is what she wrote back to me exactly: "Dear Llama: Your name was not amongst those on the admit and wait list, yet I have not receive a list of applicants to deny. Everyone should know their decision by next Tuesday/Wednesday latest. Hope this helps, Best...Mercedes"
