  1. Kindly give me grading on my argument essay. The following appeared in a letter from a department chairperson to the president of Pierce University. "Some studies conducted by Bronston College, which is also located in a small town, reveal that both male and female professors are happier living in small towns when their spouses are also employed in the same geographic area. Therefore, in the interest of attracting the most gifted teachers and researchers to our faculty and improving the morale of our entire staff, we at Pierce University should offer employment to the spouse of each new faculty member we hire. Although we cannot expect all offers to be accepted or to be viewed as an ideal job offer, the money invested in this effort will clearly be well spent because, if their spouses have a chance of employment, new professors will be more likely to accept our offers." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The content of the letter from a department chairperson to the President of Pierce University argues that to employ gifted faculty members, University should offer employement to the spouse of each new faculty member it hires. The chairperson makes an analogous comparison with Bronston College which has implemented the similar stretegy and was able to increase happiness level among its faculty members. Though seems to be justifable, this argument is suffering from several critical flaws. Firsty, the argument assumes that the Pierce University has exactly similar characteristics with those of Bronsoton College. Although the argument mentions that both these are located in small towns but fails to mention other similarities between them on which the author has developed this argument. It is possible that Bronston is located in an area that has moderate climate, so professors like to stay there along with their spouses and in contrast Pierce University has harsh cold climate, so excellent professors and researchers might eschew from working in that area with their spouses. Also, if they have kids too then they would be reluctant to work in that area. In order, to convice the Pierce University president the department chairperson must list all areas of comparison and must provide sufficient evidence that these two institutions are similar in all aspects. Additionally, the argument assumes that no other incentive is responsible for satisfaction in faculty except employement offer to their spouses. It is very likely that Bronston College is offering above average monetory benefits to its employees and this factor might be the prime reason of their happiness. Professional sessions for happy and satified life might be the reasons for faculty satisfaction at Bronston College. To make this argument cogent, the department chair must take all factors into account that are responsible for faculty happiness at Bronston College and then must establish that employement offer to the spouses of new faculty is the prime factor of satisfaction. Finally, the author believes that if spouses are offered employement, new professors will more likely accepts offers of employement. The argument doesnot discuss other factors which can entice an exceptional researcher. Two prime factors can be the level of research taking place at that particular university and the amount of funding available for research. It is possible that though Pierce College offers spouse employement offer to a new researcher but he may refuse to accept the job due to lack of funding and insubstantial research background of the university. The departement chair must first ensure that other factors that are necessary to attract exceptional researchers are fulfilled before convincing the president to work on spouse employement offer. In conclusion, as the argument fails to validate its assumption regarding similarity between Bonston College and Pierce University, doesnot explain that how spouse employement is the only factor which makes reseachers to accept employement offer and is not able to establish that how spouse employement is the only incentive that effects faculty satisfaction, the argument is not convincing.
  2. For an equation, if all the even powers of x have same sign coefficients and all the odd powers of x have the opposite sign coefficients, then it has no negative roots. For an equation f(x)=0 , the maximum number of positive roots it can have is the number of sign changes in f(x) ; and the maximum number of negative roots it can have is the number of sign changes in f(-x) Thanks in advance
