  3. finally, a rejection from WUSTL! "We apologize if you are receiving this notification twice however it was brought to our attention that some notifications didn't get through in March. Thank you, Department of Economics Washington University in St. Louis We are sorry to inform you that we are currently unable to offer you admission to the Ph.D. program in Economics here at Washington University. The difficulty of choosing fewer than 40 candidates out of the pool of over 450 applicants this year cannot be overstated. We hope you can appreciate the fact that we had a record number of candidates, many with exceptional qualifications. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applicants we could not admit, it is simply prohibitive for us to respond to individual inquiries about the reasons for non-acceptance. We wish you well in your future endeavors. Please keep this department in mind in the future if it should be appropriate for you to apply again. " "some notifications didn't get through in March". C'mon, I got better treatment from better ranked universities that charged me less (or nothing) for the application...
  4. thankyou very much for your reply. I'm waiting for a response from LSE's Econ dept, and I have managed to gather the e-mail of a person who did the LSE Econ and Phil master and is now pursuing a PhD in Econ, at LSE. Will be writing to ask his opinion. Also, I have read the thread about 'getting a distinction in a MSc in the UK', and things will be more clear in a few days. I'm guessing getting a distinction at a LSE MSc may be harder than getting good grades at Barcelona GSE (conditional to access their PhD). So I will re-read posts and threads comparing LSE with other universities I'm interested in, and still have a chance to be admitted to. thanks again whiterabbit!
  5. Hi, I applied to PSE's APE program. I haven't had any news yet. Last year, as you can see on Gradcafé, PSE published the results for APE on their website about this time of the year. I understand that PPD's deadline is after APE's deadline. I would expect results after APE, then. A friend of mine applied to PSE's PPD, and he hasn't received any news yet.
  6. Dimitri: Hi, I'm sorry if I disturbed you with my post I have re-read my e-mails and found out I posted incorrect information; sorry! I sent an e-mail to UMASS on March 24 and they replied that same day, saying: "As soon as the department makes a decision on your application we will notify you by both email as well as postal mail." THEY didn't say anything about end of April. At MSU I wrote on the first days of April and they told me I would hear of them 'in the next 2 - 4 weeks', that is, about from the 21st of April onwards. Tilburg also mentioned, on an e-mail, they would notify me about the waitlist at the end of April. So, UMASS DIDN'T say aniything about the end of April, only MSU and Tilburg did. I'm truly sorry. I'm editing my older post to correct this mistake.
  7. blueser, I'm also waiting for WUSTL. I e-mailed them twice (first sonya woolley, then Azariadis) I still haven't received any replies. I moved on. I don't care what they say I'm not going to pay attention. At MSU and Tilburg at least they answered me that I should wait until the end of April. WUSTL is being relly rude and/or mean! --- still waiting for MSU, WUSTL, UMASS, UCLouvain, Bonn GSE, PSE; waitlisted and no news at Cambridge and Tilburg
  8. Institution: London School of Economics Program: MSc Economics and Philosophy Decision: Accepted Funding: none Notification date: April 12 Notified through: Emailed enquiry last week; received e-mail today Posted on GC: No Comments: don't know how hard it is to get to a PhD in Economics from here, don't know if I will attend then.
  9. Well, I just don't see it. I don't feel I will have another chance of attending philosophy courses at graduate level. But, LSE's Master in Econ and Phil requires you to take two econ courses, out of three. If I take Micro and Macro, I'm still short one Econometrics course to be considered for the PhD. I wrote LSE asking if I could take that course in some way. I'm afraid I may attend the MSc and don't get in the PhD in Economics at LSE, and that I'm forced to take another MSc in other places. Say, at Barcelona you do one year MSc and three (or whatever it takes) PhD. In PSE it's 2+3. If I attend LSE and then apply to PSE and I'm accepted at year 1 or year 2 of the MAster, I will feel I lost a year. I was hoping someone on the forum had some information regarding this program, the kind of information that does not appear on a website. Perhaps someone knows someone who attended or something like that. I apologize if this thread is silly and I'm just failing to notice it; I received LSE's acceptance e-mail an hour ago and just can't think straight yet.
  10. dear all: In the past I have read very good advice on this forum and I'm quite sure my results would have been worse if it wasn't for some crucial threads. This time I have a question: does anybody have some information regarding the placement of the Msc in Economics and Philosophy at London School of Economics? I was accepted today; I'm very interested in acquiring some formation in Philosophy but at the same time I do intend to pursue a PhD in Economics later. At LSE's webpage only one of eight stories of past students mention a PhD in Economics, and actually, he says, " It wasn't straight-forward to enter an economics PhD program after this degree, but I managed to". My interests cover Labor Economics, some Development, I'd like to study some Behavioral too, but recently I have read interesting stuff regarding the links between Econ & Philosophy. I worked as a research assistant in a joint project with philosophers at my university, regarding justice theories and the like. I'm interested in philosophical insights on growth, income distribution, hapiness and labor, etc. But I know LSE is HIGHLY competitive! It was a far fetched shot at LSE's Econ & Philosophy program, all my other applications aimed directly at Economics: I was also accepted at American University, and Barcelona GSE (for the MSc). I'm on the waitlist for Tilburg's Research Master and Cambridge's Research MPhil. I'm still waiting for the results at Paris School of Economics (next week!). If I go to Barcelona I know I don't have a problem getting to the PhD there, or at other European place I guess. If I'm accepted at PSE the same. I only got a partial tuition waiver at Barcelona, and although funding is some sort of a problem, it doesn't prevent me from attending any of these places. Any information, opinions, or ideas, are welcome. thanks!

  12. if UCL stands for University College London (and not UC Louvain), I sent my papers on December 30, They e-mailed my on January 7 stating they had received my package. E-mail said I should be hearing from them by April 12, but today (April 9) I received a snail mail with a rejection (letter is dated March 25, snail mail takes a while to get to my country). hope this info is useful. If you are not talking about UCLondon, I'm sorry to disturb.
  13. @centralbanker I'm still waiting on WUSTL... sent an e-mail to Sonya Woolley about three weeks ago, and another one to Azariadis (contact for the Econ dept) and STILL I haven't heard of them... I'm quite sure this is an implied rejection, but why can't they just say it? ...also waiting UMASS, MSU, UCL, LSE, PSE, Bonn GSE, Barcelona GSE... also waitlisted at Cambridge and Tilburg... with my luck, I'll now where I'm going two days before the courses actually start!
  14. about UCL: I applied for the Research Master They received my application on January 7, and on January 27 they sent me an e-mail, "Acknowledgement of application", stating, among other things: "Your application is being considered by the selectors. You should receive a response by 12 April 2011. This response may take the form of an offer of admission, an invitation to interview, a request for further information, a follow-up response from the academic department or a rejection." Perhaps your acknowledgement of application e-mail included a similar date? or a different one? In any case, personally, I'm not writing them until April 12. ...still waiting on UMASS, Michigan State, WUSTL, LSE, Bonn GSE, PSE, and Barcelona GSE. and UCL, of course.
  15. I'm still waiting for Michigan State. I e-mailed them yesterday and today they replied: "The admissions committee is currently making final admission decisions. You should receive an email in the next 2 - 4 weeks. If you do not hear from me by April 15th, please feel free to contact me again." does this means I'm on an informal waitlist? anyone else on the same situation? also, I'm still waiting for UMASS, WUSTL, LSE, PSE, UCL...
