  1. If anyone else gets this problem, isn't it possible to purchase the questions you missed so that way you can see what went wrong?
  2. I'm looking to go to graduate school in Philosophy. Rule of thumb for our field is 1300 range for MA's and lower-tierd PhD's, and 1400+ range for top PhD's. I took the GRE for the first time during the middle of Spring Break. I glanced through the ETS provided math review, and ran through the verbal questions on the ETS provided PowerPrep software. Took the test, felt pretty good, did pretty bad. I got a 1210 (550 Verbal, 660 Quant) with a 4.0 on the writing. I got the Barron's GRE review. I ended up only running through ~110 vocab words (out of the 3500 list) and none of them came up. But I did go through the verbal exercises, read the verbal tips, and I went through the math review in depth provided by Barron's and ETS (again). I got a 1400 this time (660 Verbal, 740 Quant). I thought I had actually done worse, so I almost cried in the testing center when I saw that. I'm not sure how the writing's going to go either. I read through Barron's tips on the writing, so I felt my argument section went better than before, but I felt like my issue topic was particularly disorganized as compared to my first time. I'm not too concerned though. The writing section is probably the least important aspect of my whole application, even compared to my statement of purpose. I'd love it if it was still a 4.0. A 3.0 I could live with. A 2.0 would just look awful though. Either way though, I'm done. $160 a test is just too ridiculous. [EDIT: Oh right, I also wanted to mention that it would've been great to reverse my Quant and Verbal, since I'm a philosophy major - but still. I'm fine overall with how it is.] I guess there's not much I could do anyways. I leave campus soon, and I don't have a testing center anywhere accessible to where I live. So the next time I can take the GRE, will be with the revised edition, which is why I've been working on doing it now. I'm excited though. I'm 19 and this is my first year of college - but I've already got the GRE done and over with. My score most definitely will not be holding me back in admissions. I also came into college as a Sophomore, so I've only got next year because the following year I'll be applying. Now I don't have to worry about having to study and take the GRE in the future. [sorry for the read. I haven't had much time to relax and just wanted to write down all my thoughts - I'm really excited!]
