  1. Really?! Then will it be too vague for me claim my interest in it in SOP? Should I specify, for example law, health, environment, certain subareas of empirical studies? I am also fond of Applied Econometrics. Should I mention it as well? Or it will make my SOP less focused? Thank you
  2. Does anyone know which U.S. universities feature in empirical economics? I have read some and but can't get the whole picture. Thanks!
  3. HI everyone, This is my first time posting here. Kind of nervous about your replies...and not sure if this kind of post should be presented here. If not, please tell me where to post this. I am applying for Econ PhD and currently revising my SOP for the second version. The previous version was reviewed and it turned out that the first paragraph didn't show my strong intention in studying PhD. And after that I have read some examples. However, I don't know how should I revise it. For example, should i started with an impressive story somewhat relevant to my field of interest (i.e. Applied Economics)? Or, should I simply start with my current job as a RA and the projects I am working on with my professors? (I am not enrolled in any grad school now, just graduated from college, but I manage to get in the research center and now prospecting a paper and several other projects regarding to empirical studies.) It is hard to get the first paragraph right. I need some help please! Thank you:)
  4. My main concerns are that some PhD programmes require applicators to take advanced courses, such as advanced Micro- and Macroeconomics but I haven't take those by far. I still have one year before I graduate. What do you suggest me to take? I am planning to take advanced calculus(I) and (II), advanced microeconomics(I) and (II), linear algebra(I) and (II)(I have actually taken another introduction course, need i take this one?); still, advanced macroeconomics, econometrics and others(any other courses suggested?), if time allowed. Should I take all these courses in the last year of my undergraduate? Is it too risky to take such heavy-loaded courses in the final year?(although I am that kind of person that will throw myself into what I have decided to do.) Just few days ago, I asked a professor(I took his class for almost one year and do pretty well:)) to help me with my undergrad paper. But he refused it in a kind manner.(I wasn't really surprised because helping me doesn't do any good to him, he said to me.) I was also curious that if an undergrad paper helped in applying for PhD in economics because the professor told me not so. Should I go on and ask for other professors to help me with my paper? (I have started looking for topics and focused on some of them, but not started writing it yet.) Thanks~!
  5. Concerning carreer as a professor in economics, where should I go and study? I am neither a citizen of us nor one of uk. Still, how do the phd programmes in us differ from that in uk? I learned about the Msc/Mphil and so forth. But are there other distinctions?
