  1. Not LA or SD. Assuming perfect health, I'm not expecting that large of a drop in GPA if I transfer. Also, wouldn'tt an extra year confer any significant advantages?
  2. I'm currently a second year at a mid-level UC and I'm conflicted about what I should do next year to better my chances for admissions. I'm really uncertain about the costs and benefits. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Basically: 1. I can transfer to UC Berkeley and get my BA in two years, with a possibility of receiving better LoRs and my GPA taking a hit. 2. I can stay here and graduate in one year (econ courses including calculus, diff eq, linear algebra, real analysis, math stats). I'm thinking that this might give me the opportunity to pursue research for one year before applying to PhD programs. Without financial aid, this would also save me several thousands in loans.
  3. Maybe I haven't read the website thoroughly enough, but is there any way I could grab a research position at JPAL as an undergrad?
  4. From the beginning I was aiming for top 10 and my interests include labor, intl development, public micro. The department at Berkeley seems to align more with those interests but I'm not sure how important that is for undergrad

  6. I'll be entering as a junior and I would have to retake intermediate macro/micro. I'm quite sure that I would be able to graduate in time but I'm worried that I won't have time to take a few grad courses that I could in UCD. I don't know what the faculty culture is like but there are definitely more professors in the department than in UCD.
  7. I'm currently an undergrad at UC Davis looking to transfer to Berkeley econ this year. My question is how transferring or not transferring might affect my admission chances to competitive graduate programs. I've heard the "big fish in a small pond" argument but I've also read on econphd.net that transferring to a better undergraduate program helps with admission.
  8. Just to clarify, I am a mid-tier UC econ major and I was asking because I wanted to evaluate the benefits of transferring to Berkeley. It isn't the end of the world if I don't get into a top 5 program, but why not dream big?
  9. What are my chances of getting into a top 10 program with a profile like this? UC Davis Economics 3.9 GPA 175 LSAT Mostly research internships (I was prepping for econ phd) Much appreciated
  10. How hard is it to have a chance for a Top 5 program coming from a not-so-hot undergraduate school? Considering letter of recs, research, etc...
