  1. Thank you very much for the thoughtful reply!
  2. Thanks for everyone's replies. I apologize if the demographics section offended people. I am new to this forum, so I did a search on past profile evaluations and copy/pasted one of the most common ones (it happened to include demos). Also, I didn't realize I was being egotistical on the "lead author" remark. I was merely stating a fact. Would it be preferable to downplay this considerably in my essay?
  3. Basics: white, American Undergraduate: top 10 liberal arts college (math major, econ minor) GPA: 3.7 GMAT: 720 Experience: senior paper in financial math, research analyst at top investment management company (will have 1 year of work experience by Dec application due dates) Publications: lead author of research paper at top investment management company Research interests: Corporate governance, work/life balance Referees: senior math paper advisor (very, very enthusiastic), economics professor (very enthusiastic, was his TA for 3 econ classes), and another math prof (enthusiastic) Schools: Wharton, Harvard, Duke, Maryland, UNC-Chapel Hill, Drexel, GWU, Does my profile look competitive for some of the schools I have listed? Do you have any additional school recommendations? Thank you!
  4. The poster said that they would have answered it, conditional on the sampling requirements not being so strict. Ok, how about any ol' grad students with a fellowship/financial assistance of some sort???
  5. For everyone who is in a highly ranked business school pursuing a PhD, could you share your experiences about your quality of life? I'm interested in a few questions such as: How do you manage your personal finances? Tell me about your quality of life from a financial perspective. For those in their first two years: how do you manage your coursework alongside your TA/RA duties? For those in their last two to three years: how you manage your disertation work alongside your TA/RA duties? What does your day-to-day workday look like? How do you manage your time? Describe some of the stresses and anxieties you encounter. What is most frustrating about your experience as a graduate student? Thank you for your guidance! I'm currently considering applying to business PhD program in strategy and management, and I am trying to get a better idea of what the day-to-day existence of a graduate student is like. I'm currently a senior mathematics major at a top 10 liberal arts college who has been involved in research/teaching asssitant jobs during the academic year and two corporate internships in the energy and financial services industries. Any advice to help me better understand what life as a graduate student is like would be very much appreciated!
  6. Thanks for the advice, Indus! It is very helpful!
  7. Thanks to everyone for their response to my question. I welcome all feedback and thoughts. I am not interested in teaching accounting, having never taken an accounting course outside of a nine hour crash course in financial accounting. I will not be able to manage a 3.9 GPA; I currently have a 3.60. My liberal arts college is known for grade deflation, so while I believe a 3.7 GPA would be achievable, I don't believe 3.9 would be realistic. My major GPA is 3.75, however. My lowest grades are almost always in economics courses to be honest.
  8. Hi all, I am a math major at a highly ranked liberal arts college (top 10 in US News & World), and I am interested in exploring possibilities for a doctoral program in business administration. I am also an economics minor, but I am thinking of turning this into a second major this year; I am entering my junior year. During this summer I interned in a supply chain management group and enjoyed the work, but I think that a research-oriented career in business would be more enjoyable. What kind of doctoral programs would I be qualified for? I have taken coursework in real analysis, discrete mathematics, multivariate calculus, linear algebra, intermediate micro analysis, statistics, environmental economics, public finance, etc. I will be RA'ing and TA'ing this year for an economist as well. Programs in strategic management and organization look very fascinating. What kind of candidates are top programs looking for? I am very naive at this point in the process.
