Hi. I have applied to UNLV for their Ph.D. program in CS and the last step in my application is taking the CS GRE in a couple of weeks. I've started studying for it but really have no frame of reference for what kind of scores they will be looking for. I've poked around the forums here and am just starting to check out some of the sites like Edulix and such but they aren't really helpful. My previous school was ranked around #100 on the US News listing. I graduated from there with highest honors for both of my degrees (M.Eng. and B.Sc. in computer engineering) and was the top graduate in the department both times. I spent a year at a very highly ranked school as part of their research program, however I have no publications aside from my Masters thesis. I have been out of school for around 5 years, and my work in that time has led me to several interesting research problems that I have already discussed with a professor at UNLV who was receptive and encouraging. Although UNLV's program doesn't appear on the rankings it appears that it's a fairly small program, so I think its ranking would be fairly low. I'm not overly concerned with that, I'm applying mainly because it's close to where I live now and I have other good reasons to stay here. It's a bit confusing, though, that one of the requirements is to take the CS GRE. Edulix doesn't seem to have any real data on CS GRE scores of people who have been accepted or rejected, and of course I know that a strong background can make test scores irrelevant. Given the information I've provided about my background and UNLV's program, what sort of score do you think they are looking for? When I look at the TitaniumBits stuff and the official practice book I feel like 60th percentile is doable now, and if I work and go over that stuff again and of course read all the posts here that I could get up to 85th.
