  1. Took the GRE back in September, and had unofficial scores of 750-800 in both sections. Checked online today and my official scores are those in the post title. I also took the GRE 5 years ago, under the old format, and my scores then were V 770 and Q 790. I'm pleased with my scores (I think they're well within the range they need to be for the sorts of programs I'm looking at right now), but out of curiosity: did I do better this time or five years ago? I think the percentiles are pretty much the same for each... and it's kind of a moot point since the old scores are expired. In terms of general feedback, I have to admit I have a very low regard for the test and the rationale behind it - not that that helps any of us, of course. Comparing this experience to my experience five years ago, the most obvious difference is just how relaxed the previous experience seems by comparison. Prometric were awful to deal with and take their security measures hysterically seriously (and being wanded every time you come back from the bathroom doesn't make the test-taking experience any less stressful than it already is). The test itself was comparable - I found the math much more difficult this time around, but part of that could just be the fact that five years ago I had just completed my bachelors (in Math) and haven't taken any math courses since. The verbal seemed easier - especially in terms of being able to reason out the meanings of unfamiliar words - but not much. I did about three weeks of prep work, mostly using ETS's study guide for the revised GRE, which I found gave a very fair and accurate sense of the actual feel and difficulty level of the test. I also used Barron's guide, which was a fine resource, though I don't think it had any impact on my performance. My philosophy on these things is that practice tests are the most useful and efficient way to prepare for the test, so besides the PowerPrep test I also did 5 or so of Kaplan's practice tests. All were useful (though Kaplan tends to be very sloppy in their wording), the PowerPrep one especially. Wish I had more helpful input or advice, but that's about all I can come up with.
