Should there be a same curriculum for students until they reach college? Some people will agree to it, claiming that the same standards of education will improve the way in which the students learn. While, other people would argue that an inflexible and untailored mode of education will deteriorate the education system. This is a controversial issue; however, a closer examination will reveal that a same curriculum will hinder the progress of the students and is not suitable to be implemented at a national level.
Firstly, a same curriculum would adversely affect the student with weak skills. Many students with poor learning ability will be left behind since the same curriculum will be directed towards only few goals. For example, a student weak in studies but good at sports will not be able to make great achievements if the curriculum only focuses upon academic achievement. For instance, students in china who are good at sports are sent to sports schools where they are trained for performing in Olympics. Thus, different environment helps student to achieve where they have the abilities.
Perhaps, the biggest problem with a same curriculum is that it does not take into consideration of each individual. ‘A single size fits all’ model can not be applied in matters of education as different student has different needs. For example, an autistic student must enter into a special schools where their learning inability is considered. An autistic student will require special treatment- different teachers, different teaching lessons and different pace of teaching. Thus, a same curriculum would be unable to conform to special needs of these students, it will be quite ineffective.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that different curriculum for satisfying different needs of student will be a better option than imposing a strict same curriculum for all the students. Surely, a different curriculum for each student will help them to learn effectively as it considers individual needs.
