  1. Hello everyone, I am new user but I have found this forum quite useful for all applicants. I am facing a dilemma regarding my business school endeavors. I have two offers at hand: a professional MPhil at Cambridge Judge Business School without funding and a PhD at one of the better known French Schools (ESSEC/EMLYON/EDHEC). I know the career choices would be different in both cases, however I am trying to gauge which school offers a better placement prospects for employment of international students in the countries they are based. Is the Cambridge brand really stronger than the French schools in Europe? Even though I won’t have to take a loan to attend Cambridge it would still be a very expensive investment (cost a total of GBP 36000). Further, is it possible to join industrial research/consulting after a PhD in Business in Europe (I know it is difficult in the USA)? Any opinion, experience or suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  2. This is the kind of program I was searching for:) But I don't know if my profile is strong enough for this. Schools are very diplomatic in their websites (all say "we look at applications as a whole package"). Can some experienced applicants evaluate my profile to see if I have a chance for such programs? My brief profile: Research Exp: 1 year in market analysis (and will continue doing for next another year) 1 year in life sciences during undergrad Current Work Exp: Faculty associate in an entrepreneurship cell of a Business School and Co founder of a small company. Peer Reviewed Journal Publication: 1 is forthcoming in fall 2012, so would be published in peer reviewed journal before application cycle starts. Currently working on another paper. Research interest: well identified. Education: BS in Bio sciences with summa cum laude (GPA 3.87/4) from a large public research university in USA (some ranking places it in top 60 research universities in the world) Directly Relevant courses: Calculus I and II, Statistics for Sciences, Microeconomics, Intermediate Micro, Intro to Management, Biotech Entrepreneurship and a few social science classes (A in all except for a B+ in Calc I) Honors: Dean’s List in all semesters, Full scholarship from government for undergrad, a lot of recognitions from fraternity and volunteering work (probably not relevant for PhD!) and Undergraduate Research fellowships. GRE: I just took the revised one without any preparation; scored quite poor (AW: 4.5; V 157, Q 157). I feel I can improve it by at least 10 points (combined) with a few weeks prep. Personal Statement: Already written; showed it to a professional editor who feels it is “extremely well written” Ref: Very strong ref but the only problem is they all are from science professors.
  3. I am new in this forum and have seen a few posts on profile evaluations. I find the feedback and discussions quite helpful and I would highly appreciate if someone could evaluate my profile for a PhD in Entrepreneurship and point out areas which I can work on for next year's application (Fall 2013) My brief profile: Research Exp: 1 year in market analysis (and will continue doing for next another year) 1 year in life sciences during undergrad Current Work Exp: Faculty associate in an entrepreneurship cell of a Business School and Co founder of a small company. Will it be wise to get one from a boss who can speak on my market analysis skills than to have all the three letters from science professors? Can anyone please suggest me which schools I can target with my current profile (without attaining a master’s) and the areas I can improve to make my application competitive for a good program?
  4. I don't understand why don't they evaluate based on electronic transcript first and then ask for official transcripts only after offering a place. MIT Sloan asks to self reported transcripts (not even scanned copy, you fill it on an excel sheet) and then submit official one if accepted. Some school don't want to change, I guess.
