I am new in this forum and have seen a few posts on profile evaluations. I find the feedback and discussions quite helpful and I would highly appreciate if someone could evaluate my profile for a PhD in Entrepreneurship and point out areas which I can work on for next year's application (Fall 2013)
My brief profile:
Research Exp:
1 year in market analysis (and will continue doing for next another year)
1 year in life sciences during undergrad
Current Work Exp: Faculty associate in an entrepreneurship cell of a Business School and Co founder of a small company.
Peer Reviewed Journal Publication: 1 is forthcoming in fall 2012, so would be published in peer reviewed journal before application cycle starts.
Research interest: well identified.
Education: BS in Bio sciences with summa cum laude (GPA 3.87/4) from a large public research university in USA (some rankings place it in top 60 research universities in the world:))
Directly Relevant courses: Calculus I, Calculus II, Statistics for Sciences, Microeconomics, Intermediate Micro, Intro to Management, Biotech Entrepreneurship and a few social science classes (straight A in all except for a B+ in Calc I)
Honors: Dean’s List in all the semesters, Full scholarship from government for undergrad, a lot of recognitions from fraternity and volunteering work (probably not relevant for PhD!) and Undergraduate Research fellowships.
GRE: I just took the revised one without any preparation; scored poor (AW: 4.5; V 157, Q 157). But I feel I can improve it by at least 10 points (combined) with some preparation.
Personal Statement: Already written; showed it to a professional editor who feels it is “extremely well written”
Ref: Very strong ref but the only problem is they all are from science professors. Will it be wise to get one from a boss who can speak on my market analysis skills than to have all the three letters from science professors?
Can anyone please suggest me which schools I can target with my current profile (without attaining a master’s) and the areas I can improve to make my application competitive for a good program?
