  1. I just checked two courses related to real analysis in my school, one is math 451, the textbook required is called " elementary analysis" by Kenneth Ross, I assume this is the real analysis 1, another course is math602, which is titled as real analysis 2, I think this is more advanced level real analysis. I do not know if I can skip math 451 and take math602 directly since my school only offers math 602 at fall semester, but I don't want to get a bad score on that.... Or I can catch up advanced calculus by myself during summer and try to do the harder version?
  2. (1) I do not have grades fro calculus 1 and 2, however, the courses I took here like probability and mathematical stats assumed I have certain knowledge of calculus. (2) My school's math department only provide math 602,which is real analysis 2 this fall semester, but I dont think I can make it without a more fundamental real analysis course like math 451.... Any advice on which substitute I can take? Since if I forced myself to do math 602 and get a bad score, I would be in a bad situation..... :( (3) the plan of taking 2 maths and 2 advanced econ core courses is very intimidating to me to, AND econ 601 is half semester, which means it is possible to get LOR before deadline if I did a good job.
  3. I am currently doing masters in a top U.S. Econ department in Michigan, this fall semester is gonna be my second year, during which I am gonna take some maths courses since my maths background is weak..... any advice or anything, I would be really appreciate that!!!
  4. Hello everyone, I need some help figuring out my chances of getting into Econ Ph.D programs in 2014. I am currently doing 2nd Master in Economics in a top 20 Econ Department. Here is my former academic background and experiences: GPA: 3.4/4.0 Economics from China (undergrad and 1st masters) GRE: 790Q, 720V, 3.5 W Research experience: Currently being Research Assistant for a top 15 b-school research institute in my university. Have some research experience in foreign exchange rate during masters paper writing Teaching Assistant experience teaching undergrad stats course during 2-year exchange study in a Japan top 20 Univ. Letters of rec: 1-Supervisor in Japan, Econ Department Dean, 2- and 3- still need to work on but most likely to get them from a not so famous professors in my school Courses: Linear Algebra (A+), Probability and Mathematical Stats (A-), Microeconomics(A-), Macroeconomics(B+), Applied Econometric(B), Statistics for Finance Data(B+), Real Analysis( about to take this fall), Advanced Calculus(about to take this fall), Advanced Microeconomics(about to take this fall). Research interests: International Finance, International Economics, development Economics I would be glad if anyone can make rational evaluation of my chances getting into Econ Ph.D program, and what improvement I need to make before application deadline. My goal is to get into a program ranks above 80, I am not sure how high I should aim. Thanks!!!! :distracted:
  5. Recently Ive got several admissions from UK and US graduate schools. UK: Manchester Econ; Bath Econ& Finance; Queen Mary Econ; Exeter Econ etc. US: only UIUC till now. Im wondering if location plays a good role... like schools in london (QM)is better for job hunting than Bath? but Bath's econ programme ranks higher (8th), obviously much better than others. is there anyone here who can analyze these schools for me? good and bad points both. or is there anyone who studied at Bath or QM before in these programmes. As to US, I dont know if I should choose it because my bf wants me to live in london with him. But initially I wanted to go to US, most people say U.S masters are better quality and easlier to apply for PhD in U.S than U.K masters. Maybe U.S has much more chances than U.K? Donno if I shoud compromise to bf... Anyone can help me?~ thanks :)
