  1. Thanks a lot TraderJoe and daffodil5435. I appreciate your response. I got similar responses about my target school and chances of getting in from some other sources as well. I am most certainly writing GMAT again as a ) I understand it is on the lower side and I think I can improve upon the English section particulary though still not sure about 90 percentlie. b) My score would be invalid next year More importantly I have decided to join as research associate at Indian School of Business (ISB) and work there for a year and half and apply with some research exposure under my belt. I would like to know your views on the same. By the time I apply for PHD for the session next to next fall I would be already 30 and when I join I would be 31. would that be a major deterrent. Also regarding the target schools- The things that I can change about my profile are a) Research exposure (hopefully a working paper ready by the time I apply) and the GMAT score. I can't change the fact that I am from a non IIT/IIM background. Do you think it would be almost impossible for me to get in to Top 50 say with a score of 720 and 1.5 to 2 years of research experience ? I understand that the chances of getting in to top 10 is almost nill. Regrding the GPAs I can do hardly anything now. And in the shcools I went to I don't think any one ever in the history got over all CGPAs of 3.7 and above. I would like to mention that the grades given are in absolute percentage basis and the CGPA I mentioned in a conversion on 4 point scale. So may be there is a huge discripancy in the grading system in US and India/Philippines . Regarding the books you mentioned TraderJoe, I am trying to look for it in the forum but I would appreciate if you can mention the link here once. Thanking you guys for your helpful comments.
  2. GMAT: I understand that GMAT is on the lower side though the score is still qaunt heavy with quant percentlie being 95. Verbal is very poor at 78. MBA: Asian Institute of Management, Manila (Do you think the US schools recognise this institute ?) CGPA on scale of 4 would be 3.3 (but how fare is it to convert the absolute percentage score directly to a CGPA ? Though 3.3 is on the lower side it was the best in my batch and top scores in all the batches are more or less in that range only) .However my score in quant subjects is above 90% and the CGPA would be 3.7 . UGPA: National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (Again would it be recognized at all ?) I passed out in 2005. LOR- One would be written by a professor in Economics in Darden (who was a visiting professor at my school) and the other by a professor from my school.
  3. Dear All, This is my first post here. Hoping for your support. I would like to apply for PHD in Finance next fall in US B schools and would like you to suggest me the schools I should be targetting. My profile - GMAT- 690 (Quant 50 Verbal 34) MBA Finance- From top 15 Institute in Asia (As per Economist Ranking) GPA- 87.5% (Rank 1 in the batch of 100) B.Tech- Electrical Engineering- From a top 20 Institute in India GPA (72.3%) I am a certified FRM and have appeared for Level 3 CFA. I am currenty working as a RA with a professor in India and most probably wouldn't have any research publication by the time I send application. please suggest which schools or class if schools I should be targetting. Thanks
