  1. In terms of location,Pittsburgh is better than Durham?! Are you kidding me?? I did my master there. The old buildings, cold winter together with the mountain roads make me really depressed and yearn for the warm weather in the South. NBER ranked Pittsburgh as the 2nd unhappiest city in the country in 2014, while Durham is the 4th happiest city. Duke just won the NCAA championship.
  2. I am not familiar with both of these schools, but I think the program with more focus on applied econometrics/finance will better land you a job in a bank.
  3. That's really a tough choice as I know both of them have good faculty in theory. However, considering the placement, location, and even school reputation (CMU has an extremely strong CS school), I would say Duke is better than CMU.
  4. I know CMU has reputation in rigorous training which should make graduates attractive in general. But I think the success of the specific candidate on the job market really depends on his papers, fields and advisors.
  5. I know CMU admits some people and puts some people on the waitlist after their first round of interview. I guess if the number of student cannot reach their target, they probably send out the second round interview. So those who heard nothing from CMU still have a chance.
  6. Given that so many people haven't heard it from Duke, I doubt we are on some sore of waitlist.

  10. Does anyone know about Wisconsin Master program? Some one said students can transfer to PhD programs if passing prelim. But it seems everyone got in their master program.
  11. No. The reason is because there are only a few rejections on GC.
  12. I think there will be more DUKE results(both admission and rejections) coming out tomorrow or next week. Fasten your seatbelt.
  13. I apply there and wait for their decisions
  14. I saw Minnesota and JHU admits on GC. Anyone else receiving their admissions?
  15. The one on GC might be applied economics instead of economics
  16. There are two admissions to Minnesota. Does anyone have any ideas about it?
  17. Considering few admission posts on GC and here, I assume there should be more admissions or even rejections tomorrow.
  18. BehavEcon, how do you know? Did you receive the admission
  19. Northwestern asks me something about my fall grade this week, so I am pretty sure they have already began reviewing. But I have no idea about other schools.
  20. More graduate economics or mathematics classes, and research experience will boost your chances. Doing a master program in Canada might be a good choice.
  21. agree with applicant12. Contacting with professors should be extremely helpful in engineering, and may be useful in science sometimes. This is because in economics you will choose what field you are going to do and whom you are going to do with only if you can pass the qualifying exams.
  22. I understand your point. But what I mean here is to get an offer from a master in math or stat should be easier than to get into a decent phd program based on the math background, at least to my point of view. And since his final goal is the econ PhD, if he can do a master in math or stat, it willconceal his lack math courses in undergraduate.
