  1. Initially, I naively thought of academia as an escape route. But I started loving research and teaching. So don't rule out a PhD completely. EDHEC for Finance PhD is a good program for industry type research.
  2. Thanks a lot for the information daizj900322. I really appreciate this. Wish you all the luck with your MAcc choice and PhD applications!
  3. Hi daizj900322 I don't have any suggestions for you because I don't have any direct experience with any of these programs. In any case, I wish you good luck with choosing the correct program for your interests! However, since I am interested in pursuing an Accounting PhD, I have a couple of questions for you and would be grateful if you could answer them. Thanks a lot in advance for your time. Your thoughts on these questions mean a lot, and I would highly appreciate if you could help me out. 1) I was under the impression that MAcc programs in the US do not offer Financial Aid, especially to international students. I found the 50,000ish dollar price tag too steep, but if, as in your case, students get tuition waivers of 40 to 50%, then it does become something I would love to look into. On what criteria do they seem to award tuition waivers, according to you? 2) How did you go about securing graduate research assistantships even before joining the program? I am guessing that you reached out to professors beforehand... did you visit the campus to interact with them, or did you figure all this out over email? 3) From your previous posts, I gather that you are not a US citizen/permanent resident (I am not a US Citizen/PR, either). I have noticed that many MAcc program webpages mention that they prefer to admit US citizens/permanent residents (Foster at Washington Seattle, UNC, for example). Apart from Ross and OSU, are you aware of other programs which don't have a strict preference for US citizens/Permanent Residents? Thanks again.
  4. Okay, so you're a CPA and you've helped write CPA books too! You're just 23? Do you have 30 hours in a day or something :grad::grad:
  5. Wow, 33 applications - that is quite something. On another note, I've never seen a profile as well rounded as yours in ALL respects! Econ/Math? Check Accounting Background? Check Acc Teaching Experience? Check Acc Research Experience? Check Acc Work Experience? Check Programming Skills? Check I'm guessing you must be a CPA too? Just curious, how old are you to have done so much!
  6. PinkMonkey - Impressive profile there! Are you enrolled in the Queen's MSc in Accounting currently?
  7. My friend has a question about Accounting SoPs. He is applying this year. I am interested in the responses as well since I will be applying next year. "I am interested in this question. How does one tune his SOP for different schools? For instance, I am interested in empirical archival capital markets accounting research. I am writing the same for each school, and describing the kind of papers I have read. But I am not specifically mentioning that I would prefer doing research in valuation over analysts research. So, how should I tune my sop to different schools? Also do schools speak among themselves about a potential PhD student?" Thanks!
  8. Just found out that Queen's has started rotating its intake into the finance/economic and social behavior streams. The 2014 intake was for the social behavior stream. 2015 will be for finance/economic stream. Evergreen, do you have any additional info about this program? In terms of which PhD schools they place their MSc students in? I found a couple of Rotman utoronto phd students who were alums of this program.
  9. Where did you get such detailed data on duke's placements from? The program website doesnt have it and the BYU website has no data on graduates between 2008 to 2014.
  10. What about Yale? They have Jacob thomas and frank Zhang. You should consider duke too.
  11. I happen to know somebody in his 30s who got into UTAustin's PhD OB Program with an MBA (ISB) and RA experience (again, ISB). I think the RA experience was vital to his success. PM me and I'll try connecting you to him.
