  1. That's a bit strange... Are their admitted students very inactive on Gradcafe this year or something?
  2. 套马的汉子你威武雄壮! actually is a pop song in China..
  3. I haven't got any acceptance yet... So probably I will be shut out as well :( but don't be too disappointed guys! I am planing to get a master in statistics. I figure even if I can't get into phd programs in econ, a master in stat will really help for private sector employment
  4. okay just called Wisconsin - told me there are more acceptance letters coming out. And Maryland told me they will be releasing early March and not a single decision has been made yet. So the one on GC is troll.
  5. At least I got some - rejection from Rochester. :( Silence from Brown, Wisconsin, no interview from Duke. Dying.
  6. So guys, I need some advice here :(. I got rejected by Rochester, stupidly used it as one of my safeties. I guess my only shots left are Maryland and Boston U, which I don't feel very optimistic about. At this point, I am considering master programs in Europe. I know quite a few have late deadline, which is good for me. However, I can't find much information on their selectivity :( no point in applying if knowing won't get admitted. So, how would you compare the selectivity of some European MRes programs, such as Bonn, or Pompeu Fabra, to US schools?
  7. Acceptance from Maryland on Gradcafe? Keep my finger crossed...
  8. In their defense, they did not send out the rejection... they just posted the update on their online system :( Still sucks hairy balls and kept me from my sleep tonight... And I have algebra in the morning.
  9. They did... I am freaking out and started to look into MAs in Europe. :(
  10. hah... So Rochester and Brown already sent out offers :( Guess I'm out. Congrats to anyone in and good luck guys.
  11. I am really freaking out right now... my undergrad school has a top 25 econ department and I have only got a B+ in grad micro :( What should I do? Is it okay if I do not submit my fall grades?
  12. I have posted a while ago and got informative feedback. Now I am posting with updated profile. Sorry... I couldn't find a way to edit the previous one. *embarrassed* PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Two years at a decent uni in Asia. Then transferred to a Top 15 US university, non-ivy Undergrad GPA: 3.63 in the Chinese school, 3.92 in the US GRE: Haven't taken Math Courses: Calc I-II (Chinese As) Calc 3 (A+ in the US), LA B- (Retaken here and got A+), Prob Theory C (Retaken here and got A), Statistics A-, ODE (A+ here), Real Analysis (A here), Taking Complex Analysis and Number Theory now Econ Courses: Chinese school: intermediate Micro, Macro, Corporate Finance, International (All As) Public Finance (B) American school: Intermediate Micro, Econometrics (Both A+s), Econ of Poverty (mostly labor) and Behavioral (Both As), taking grad Micro, financial market research (B) Letters of Recommendation: Won't be excellent as I have only been here for a year and failed to develop very close relationship 1) Micro professor, with whom I have talked about senior thesis and exchanged some opinions on papers he gave me (didn't work out because of data problem , taking his grad Micro again 2) Econ of Poverty professor, talked about senior thesis as well, though not very in depth, might be lukewarm... 3) Behavioral professor, quite young, possibly my thesis advisor, know me better than the other two I guess Research Experience: helped a grad student with her dissertation in the summer Teaching Experience: Taught SAT as a volunteer, but that doesn't really count... Research Interests: applied micro, labor, education, behavioral SOP: Pretty standard. Went to a professor and told me it was okay and not to worry about it at all as they "don't really look at SOP". Not sure how to react to that... Concerns: bad Chinese grades, only one year in the US, advisor is concerned grad admission may interpret my grades here as a fluke, advises me to maybe wait for a year; not so good rec letter, though haven't asked yet; lack of more serious research experience Schools to apply: Reach Penn (impossible… I know, but really want to try a T10, is there any less “selective” t10 anyway?), NYU, Michigan, Brown, Duke (I personally prefer private schools) Mid UCSD, Maryland, BU, JHU, Rochester Safety Not going to apply this cycle, might have better chance if wait for another year so I am taking more risk now Any suggestions?
  13. Touché. I have no idea how my writing would be like for the GRE. How is the selectivity of Caltech? I hope to move to the west coast, so UCLA & UCSD are my top choices so far.
  14. Right, I have no idea what my writing would be like for GRE. By the way, I talked to the chair of the department today. He promised me to send my transcript around to see if anyone need RA. But he also suggest going to office hours and talk to professors and be active in a small class is enough for a recommendation letter. so in the worst scenario, I am planning to get a job in research after graduation and reapply in the next cycle. I really hope to move to the west coast, so UCLA or UCSD are my top choices :)
